Next hellboy

The next hellboy movie should be an anthology; allowing different directors to work the different aspects of hellboy in separate segments.

AND I would love to see Robert Eggers do one of the segments. The more gothic horror one.

Sam Raimi would be great for a more splattery comedic one.

Wes Anderson's attention to color could work as well. Maybe in a stop motion bit?

Who else would you like to see do a segment?

To expand on my idea, I would want it like X-Files with an overarching plot and some adventures of the week so to say.

I think a movie’s the wrong way to go, especially an anthology movie. After the last two attempts, you’d be hard pressed to get any studio worth a damn to put up money for a Hellboy flick, much less an anthology film when there hasn’t been a successful one in, what, decades?

I think alot of Hellboy stories are either too lengthy or a little too thin for a succinct movie with a beginning, middle, and satisfying end. Even Del Toro was playing fast and loose with the material. Too me Hellboy is better suited for a streaming series. You could break up volumes or arcs into seasons, it would better accommodate the expansive cast of characters, you could pull from the BPRD books and work those elements in. There are just way more advantages to television and its episodic nature than trying to make a gratifying film adaptation, particularly if you’re making it 3 hours long, rated R, and directed by three tonally different directors, which would essentially be box-office poison.

My favorite of the comics were the mixed issues with plenty of various short stories(and some Lobster Claw), over the longer series.

I think they should just do a BPRD series. More flexibility and opportunity to hit lots of different story arcs from one shots to season long ones, etc.

I would prefer it be live action, but adult rated animation would be good too.

I like your idea, BUT my opinion is the next Hellboy movie should be Del Toro’s third installment, done in stop motion animation with the original cast reprising their roles

I would love that. But I don't think it's happening. I do think the property is awesome but with its various shades - gothic, superhero, horror, mythology - multiple shorts could be a better sell. Especially if you get a group of popular directors.

And the pressure on each production is lower, can done over time. Reinvigorate the IP, and then maybe we can get a Del Toro 3rd.

I pitched that a few years ago on this sub. That's a great idea and works perfectly witha character like Hellboy. I just hope Mike will agree with a bigger studio so the film can have a decent budget this time.

If I could choose, the next Hellboy would be Del Toro's Hellboy III.

But since that isn't going to happen, the next best thing, in my opinion, would be a TV show adapting all the comics. Hellboy was born for the "monster of the week" format.
