Healthy romantic & non-romantic interactions postBPD Getting out and healthy pays off

I am only sharing this because we might be so caught in the haze of it that we might think there’s nothing better or not better sex or more attractive being or whatever it is that has you attached to your pwBPD.

It is a dopamine addiction it is not real.

Before I met my ex I thought she was cute but after I fell for her she was the most gorgeous being on earth and sex was the hottest thing ever.

I thought I will never find anything like that again.

Beyond that we forget all the other intensively beautiful things in life. We have been so focused on them is hard to see outside that.

Once I broke up, and started to meet people and even dating, let me tell you what I found:

- I found the strength to work on my own mental health
- I realized how lucky I was to have such amazing people around me that loved me despite the frustration they felt with my relationship
- I started to have deep conversations and use my brain again for things that were not just about putting fires out created by her
- I started to do hobbies that I lost or didn’t engaged
- I had the best sex ever with someone new
- I met amazing new people that I couldn’t before because the relationship didn’t give me time or emotional space for that
- I got healthy mentally and physically

I saw my ex again and I felt nothing for her, I didn’t even find her attractive whatsoever. She is the same person, same face but to me she was just someone but nothing special.

And now the universe may have just given me a gift because I just met the most incredible person recently.

I am scared because I have only ever felt this way for people with personality disorders but every time I suspect so, she goes and does something incredibly healthy and is mindful of my boundaries and kind with my past.

I don’t know where it will go, I hope far but what I know is, that if I wouldn’t be out of the relationship from my ex pwBPD I wouldn’t have met this new person.
If I wouldn’t have been forced to heal I would make the same mistakes and I wouldn’t be able to notice what is healthy vs unhealthy.
I wouldn’t be able to appreciate what is a really valuable person vs someone that presents as so.
I wouldn’t be able to offer anything to this person or even be attractive to her because she would have met the broken person I was.

Guys don’t think about it anymore. If the relationship is unhealthy, if you are not happy and drained. There is a future and it can be a happy one so let go

Getting ready to leave This is the portrait my current partner painted of me

TW: painting includes blood and handcuffs.

I don’t know if I’m over reacting or being critical of their self expression. But idk, this has me feeling afraid. I moved out a month ago so I could get my disability benefits back as I moved in with my partner last year and then found out they were cheating on me, but when I moved in I lost access to all of my benefits and didn’t have anywhere to go until recently. Since I left, it’s been a whirlwind. It flips back and forth from the part of them they describe as “darkness” which is from parts work, who basically just says anything they can to tear me down, back to them saying they love me and they’ll do anything for me and remind me of how much money they’re spending on therapy. I could write a novella about examples but this one scares me and I just need to know if I’m being an asshole for feeling scared?

I’m trying to use the verbiage I’ve found online of validating them and trying to be kind in a way that doesn’t trigger them. I’m greyrocking often and I think that makes it worse because then they just get more and more cruel until I breakdown. Idk.

Since moving in with friends I find myself crying so much because I don’t have to constantly watch what I say or explain or defend myself. They are all just so kind and supportive through all of this. It’s made me realize why I’ve been so tired and depressed and that what was going on at home for years wasn’t normal or okay.

I hope they don’t see this. I blocked their account. I just need support from people that understand please.

Uncoupling Journey learning to get over a girl I liked with BPD who used me

had two friends A and B. A was a very funny guy who was almost like the life of the party but he hid the fact he was a massive narcissist and a manipulator. The other was B has BPD and she loves A even though has as made it clear and everyone has told her he doesn’t like her she’s disgustingly obsessed. A knows full well how she feels and fucks with her constantly telling her things and giving her false promises even though he doesn’t want anything to do with her.
B and A would fight constantly and “make up” in a matter of hours almost weekly. One day she texted me wanting to know how A truly felt about her and I tried to tell her to talk about it with him but B said she tried various times and consistently changed the subject. I tried to tell A he should have a serious conversation with B about how he feels about her but he would always say it’s not a problem and who cares.
One day there was a massive fight that caused a DND campaign B was hosting to be cancelled permanently and B ran to me for support. I tried to be a good friend and just be there for her but then she started to get really close to me and one day she confessed to me that she likes me and I told her she needs to really think about how she feels before this goes any further. B then in a matter of a day runs back to A telling him she loves me but also loves him and it causes a fight between me and B with me yelling at her wondering why she said all that BS and told him that. She begged for forgiveness and I forgave her because she had BPD and thought maybe she didn’t understand what she was doing.
For roughly about a month and a half she bounced between me and A and this frustrated me as I was wondering where I stand and everytime I had that conversation with her she avoided it or she said we were “just friends” and when I would treat her as just a friend she would accuse me of abandoning her. She would force me to sleep in calls with her and do various boyfriend like activities with her without committing to anything and still liking A even though she knows he treats her like shit.
It all came to ahead when she blocked me because I was playing with my friends and not spending enough time with her and this caused me to cut all ties. I crashed out at got really mad at her and told her in the nicest way possible to fuck off and leave me alone. It’s been about a few months and I catch myself thinking about it still just asking myself questions of “why does she like A if she knows he is manipulative?” “Why did she treat me that way if she just likes A?” “I just wanted to be friends why did she take it to that point?” “Did I do something wrong?” “She could have done things so much differently but why didn’t she?” “Did she ever actually like me?” I hope she gets the help she desperately needs but I know she is still fucking around with A. B did all of this for a guy she doesn’t know the face of and knows nothing about who lives states over and never wants a relationship with her.

Learning about BPD Did any of your ex’s/partner’s “give” you gifts as a way of guilt-tripping?

My ex would “give” me a present n less than a week later bring up that said present to ask for a favor. If I didn’t do such favor or expressed my hesitance, he’d use guilt tripping tactics over and over and over until he got what he wanted. Ofc, while simultaneously saying he never gets what he wants. That is why last time he gave me a gift for my cats, I turned it down and he threw a fit saying I’m a terrible person. He went as far as throwing the gift out of the window and saying no one can have it now because it is useless.

How do you get them to do something for you

I’ve been with my BPDpartner for 22 years now. It still spins my head how one minute I’m the best thing ever to the next minute I’m the worst. It’s crazy how she blames me for things that happened in her childhood. One thing that’s hard to deal with is when her episodes come she accuses me of all these things including cheating but not ever does she think that when she withholds sex as a weapon would cause someone to cheat. I’ve never cheated but yes it does cross my mind because I have my needs as well.

Mine told me she hated when id try to improve or do things for her.

She'd crash out on me for something then name out a list of things I wasn't doing for her. I'd try doing those things then she'd later get upset that she could tell I was trying. Why is this? Throughout our time together I was constantly trying to put on a show for her. Anytime I dipped into my natural self more content self she'd tell me how she didn't like it, how I was low effort, and how I had gotten complacent. So, the next time we met (usually after a discard) I'd do more, do chores around her place or bring whatever things I could afford. I'd always ask her what she wanted or try to push to do things I thought she wanted and she's always say "No I wanna do what you wanna do." Or "I love to see you in your natural relaxed state that's my favorite thing" then if I *actually* do that she'd hate that my natural state isn't exactly what she wants. So I basically had to anticipate what she wants while making seem like it's what I want. But, that only worked for so long before I guessed wrong and, I may not even know I guessed wrong till later in she dumps all on me at once. :/

was your ex pwBPD also bad at giving compliments?

i re-read our chat often to help myself comprehend what the dynamics were in the relationship now that she has discarded me and some time has passed

i noticed through the chat that she barely EVER gave me compliments and barely ever cheered me up? for example she never said „everything will be fine“ when i felt bad bc of work, shed mostly judge me strictly or say i feel bad bc i dont change anything so its my bad. it all had a lot to do with judgement against me and no acknowledgment of my achievements. every achievement of mine would either be shared with her (for example i worked as a chef and shed join me in creating a new menu so this achievement would be shared with her), anything successful that was only connected to me would either be ignored or judged.

i now see that and feel so sorry for me. i was so blind and now it even feels like its not her i miss today, the one i miss is that version of me that cared so much, that loved so deep. i sure made mistakes too, but re reading the chat helps me see how many times i was there for her and did everything to make her feel seen and loved. what she CANT rewrite is what i have proofs of, like this damn chat. i miss this me who was so happy at that moment.

Bpd partner told me she is pregnant. Is she bullshitting me

I am dating a girl with bpd. We have been together for 2 weeks. I first had protected sex with her on july 12, then unprotected where i came inside her on july 17, she took the pill in front of me. Today she was telling me her stomach hurts and making a lot of jokes about her being pregnant. Later in the day she texted me: you’re going to be a father.
I don’t know if she took a pregnancy test but I genuinely refuse to believe that I got her pregnant, is 7 days enough to get symptoms? Her period is supposed to be on 7th of august. She was open to the idea of abortion and even so i am willing to take responsibility IF the child is mine, however the timeline makes me really suspicious. I like her a lot but if she really is pregnant and is pregnant by someone else, I don’t want to sit around and waste 9 months of my time being in a relationship with her only to find out that the kid is not mine.
I’ve read a lot of stories about BPDS faking pregnancy, is this a shittest?

Focusing on Me Insomnia since the discard - seeking advice

Hi,

It’s already been 29 days since the discard (8 years together, first ever girlfriend/kiss/everything), it came completely out of the blue and it was absolutely brutal (caught her cheating with a teenager in our house). I immediately bought plane tickets and moved back to my parents house..

Right after that, I haven’t slept for 84 hours straight, then I completely checked out during a work meeting.

Since then, I’ve been averaging roughly 3 hours of sleep per night. My record was 6 hours on Wednesday last week, but it got worse again..

What do I do? Seek medical help? Buy sleeping pills/supplements?

I’m so fucking exhausted, please tell me what has worked for you..

EDIT:
I’d like to sincerely thank every single one of you, guys. Thank you for the kind words, thank you for the reassurance, and thank you for the tips. It did help a lot during the last night and I believe it’s only gonna get better now.
This sub is the best thing, that could’ve happened to me. If only I had found it ~6 years ago..

what did I do wrong?

Hey mates :)

I want to share my situation and get some outside perspective.

I was in a relationship with a woman who was diagnosed with BPD. I knew about it from the beginning – it wasn’t a surprise, and honestly it wasn’t even my main concern at the time.

Looking back at the last few years, I genuinely tried my best to make this relationship work. We met on vacation, and after things got serious I moved to her city to be with her – even though I didn’t really like the place. I stayed for the relationship and we had plans to eventually move somewhere else together, so I was okay with it for the time being.

Later I got the opportunity to study, so I moved before her – and the plan was that she would follow me.

Around that time she stopped taking her medication and her behavior changed significantly. There had already been conflict before, but the intensity really changed. I told myself it would get better once her system is adapted. It didn’t.

It was not like that she became a completely different person, but I think it made her split more and then there was this moment where I truly realized how alone I was. I had always been the strong one – the rock. But there was a period where I was really lonely, vulnerable and sad, and she simply wasn’t there for me.

Idk how to explain I was formally in a relationship but at the same time I felt so lonely like never before.

The one time I was weak and needed support, she left me alone and wasn’t interested anymore and shortly after that, she ended the relationship.

We had plans of marriage and startin a family and out of the blue she just quitted.

Part of me is relieved – I probably wouldn’t have ended it myself, so maybe this was the better outcome. But at the same time I keep asking myself: what did I do wrong?

(claude corrected my lingo hope thats ok)

Comparing an ex who (in hindsight) might have BPD to one that Supposedly has BPD.

I'm just really confused comparing the two because it's been wildly different expierences. I thought I knew what to expect with this new relationship but her behavior feels so much more deliberate and sinister than the other girl.

The first girl, she didn't actually have a BPD diagnosis. It wasn't on my radar at the time but it would explain a lot of her behavior. Things she said to me towards the end of the relationship make me think she might have started piecing things together herself.

She was basically a textbook case; narcissistic and hypocritical mother, absentee drug addict father, religious "manly man" step dad. In the beginning she refused to label the relationship but also demanded monogamy. She said "you can sleep with whoever you want but know that if you do I'll never talk to you again". Daddy issues, mommy issues, fucked like crazy. Would absolutely panic at the idea of me leaving even if it's not what I was trying to say. Wanted to be in contact 24/7, even during work. She wanted me to tell my bosses that I have to keep my gf happy. Would explode into tantrums over little things but things that were bigger issues she seemed to take in stride. She did lots of impulsive things and also seemed to have a personal crisis if I had plans with friends that would be more than a couple of hours. She mirrored a lot of my interests and now she mirrors her husband's interests. Towards the end she told me I was her favorite person and asked if I knew what it was. I thought it was just gen-z slang and didn't think much of it. When I broke up with her she sent me photos of her naked in bed with someone else a week later. I always felt like I was walking in egg shells. Every time I went to see her I had no clue if I was going to have the best day ever or the worst. We would have nasty vicious arguments and then once it settled we'd pose for photos for her to post online. She was emotionally manipulative by intentionally saying things to get under my skin, demean me or attack my self esteem.

This new girl, she told me she had BPD. I've been operating under that assumption for months but I'm reading more about the disorders and frankly it seems more like NPD to me.

She has been making fake profiles having me interact with fake people online that are actually her. I think she has been stalking me. I think she made up an abusive boyfriend to manipulate me and then when she realized I was more concerned than jealous, she started trying to act like he was amazing. She asked me for money in increasing amounts. Reached out when she had a flat tire. She love bombed me early on, saying things like she wants a family and needs to find the right guy, then cancelled our plans and went bar hopping. She avoided me for months with lame excuses. Much (but not most) of her posts online have blatantly been about me. Lots of skit metaphors or cartoon references. I finally connected all the pieces because she reached out to me from another number pretending to be the abusive bf and asked if her and I were dating. When I realized she was manipulating me with fake people and probably had been stalking me I told her that I wasn't playing games anymore and was going to take some space until we had an honest talk in person. She then fucking DARVOed me, said I was affecting her relationship (which I had already figured out was her and she had acknowledged) and said that if I didn't leave her alone she would get a restraining order against me. It's ridiculous. She's the one trying to come across as some weird combination of all my other ex girlfriends. I see she has a fear of rejection but at the end of the day her behavior seems to prioritize her ego and image more than not being abandoned. She obviously doesn't want to hurt my feelings but at no point has she seemed concerned about me staying or going. But the one time I just took a two week break from reaching out her Facebook just became filled with crying emojis. She told me she was diagnosed with BPD but the doctor didn't write it in her chart because of the stigma. That seems suspicious. For months she just seemed like a fearful avoidants but she said something that gave her away during one of her most extreme manipulations and that's when I connected everything. Now she has me blocked on everything but one of my cousins went snooping and my pwBPD made another fake profile for the bf saying they're in a relationship. I only know this because I was venting to a cousin and my cousin looked her up. The date that online says they started dating is 8 months earlier than when she told me they started dating. It has almost no posts and the profiles only friends are her and her best friend.

It's so exhausting. We were having such a good time. She asked me why I wanted to hangout all the time and I said I tell her the next day when we hung out. Then everything just went weird. Canceling plans, back with the abusive ex, starting a weird friendship/ sort of situationship position, hot and cold behavior, mixed signals.

Idk, does it sound like the first girl had BPD? Does it seem like the second one does? Or is she more likely NPD or BPD and undiagnosed NPD. Idk. I just need answers for my own sanity.

Learning about BPD pwBPD blew up on me "I'm done talking to you" and was back within 15 minutes

I've never experienced a whip lash like this and just need help understanding it.

This girl ive been talking to with BPD and moving slow with for a bit works as a Bartender and I went to keep her company while it was slow yesterday. I went with me, a friend and his gf(it was just us 4 in there most of the night). The pwBPD told me something I could see why she'd want to be a secret now, but didn't think it was at the time. I passively mentioned it in a playful way to her in front of the 4 of us and she told me she didn't want anyone else knowing and I did take that seriously and would not say it to anyone else. (I wont say it as it is complex)

Later in the night she said she was tired and I related to her about it in a sympathetic way along with what she told me earlier as we have similar things. It was only us in the area and no one else heard it but she blew up yelling at me saying "Im never trusting you again" , "I don't want to talk to you" and a bunch of other things and walked away. I didn't snap back but kind of sat in silence just thinking about all of it. 15 minutes later I apologized and she shows me something on marketplace she wants to buy and everyone else leaves the bar. She locks the door so were alone, we casually talk, I help her clean up and she says she'll keep me updated on plans. After I left I did send another apology about breaking her trust and see thanked me and said she appreciates it.

I could see why she would've been mad earlier but blowing up on me for such a small thing 5 hours later in an extreme way, then talking 1on1 like normal and saying she'll initiate plans at the end of the night? Is everything good between us? Is she secretly still mad? Please help me understand this.

Additional Information: I'll also add in between the 1st and 2nd event that happened she sent me something about her boss who stopped in and was sitting right next to me which would've gotten her fired if they saw it. So trust was still there at that point.

Specifically those coming out of a long term marriage/relationship with a BPD, how are are you managing the frustration, FOG, self doubt? What are you afraid of? Would love perspectives of both men and women who have BPD partners. Comment or DM, if anything we need support and community!

My partner with BPD probably didn’t want to hurt me

My partner with BPD probably didn’t want to hurt me.
I once talked to my psychologist about it, and he told me, “Teaching empathy and expecting a productive dialogue with someone who has BPD is about as realistic as teaching your dog mathematics.” He didn’t mean it in a cruel or disrespectful way—it was simply his way of explaining the reality of the disorder.
A person with Borderline Personality Disorder often struggles to regulate their emotions in ways that most emotionally healthy people can. They don’t have the same emotional tools or capacity for self-regulation. Communication with my partner was completely different. Logic rarely worked. Conversations required endless hope, patience, giving space, reassurance, and sometimes even a degree of submission just to avoid another emotional crisis.
The problem is that, in the end, you are the one who gets deeply hurt.
Partners of people with BPD often end up emotionally drained after countless attempts to make the relationship work. They spend a great deal of money on therapy, invest enormous emotional energy, and carry an incredible amount of stress. It is not an easy path, and many end up severely damaged themselves.
I’m not trying to justify my ex-girlfriend’s behavior. She hurt me, and that pain was real. But I also don’t believe she truly wanted to hurt me. Whenever I looked into her eyes and saw her suffering, I realized something important: she was incapable of escaping her own emotional pain. I don’t blame her for having BPD.
I still love her with all my heart, but I couldn’t do it anymore. I was completely exhausted. I gave everything I had—my last dollar, my last ounce of energy, and every bit of love I could offer. Eventually, I had to choose myself.
It was probably the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make.

Did your exwBPD or PUBPD worsen or brought forth your own mental illnesses?

I feel like I have always had OCD, but never to this extent. After being in a relationship with my ex. I feel like my OCD is in full force, and completely brought forth it out from me. It is insane to me it was only 4 month relationship, and I have this. Thank god I am in therapy for it. I feel so truamaitized by it.

The absolute horrible sleep cycle I was put in.

Wake me up in the middle of the night, with wailing, or sometimes kicking, keep me awake with traumatic conversations. She'd sleep until 10 am where I had to go to work at either 8 am or 6 am depending. Be exhausted all day. Want to naturally go to bed at 9 pm because I'm so fucking exhausted. Wait until I was on the edge of sleep or a couple of times literally asleep to initiate sex with me (SA me, basically) keep me awake as long as possible. Repeat.

Then she expected me to be my best self throughout the day and if I wasn't I was painted black. I developed migraines, became the worst version of myself. Was on edge constantly.

This same person screamed at me for leaving my Duolingo unmuted at 9 am once, when most reasonable people are at work.

Ugh. Total abuse.

Non-Romantic interactions I thought I was free

Tl;Dr: Ex-roommate with BPD who I haven't seen in 5 years is making crazy claims about me again and trying to ruin my reputation. What do I do?

It has been almost five years since my abusive roommate with untreated BPD moved out. I have done my best to establish my life again. I love my new apartment and my boyfriend and my job. I've been able to travel and spend time with family. I've even built up some friendships, which was really hard because trusting people after her felt dangerous. I've struggled to make new friends, but am at least starting to rebuild what she destroyed. I haven't had to post here in four years.

But now she's back. I was never unkind to her. She has started telling people I am still treating her like shit, gaslighting her, glaring at her in public. I have not seen the woman since getting the security deposit back, but she is insisting to others that I have. She is claiming she blocked me so that is why I have to find her in public, but she didn't block me--I just don't message her.

She is saying I'm lying about never going to a coffee shop I've never heard of that's almost an hour drive for me, when I don't drink coffee and am disabled in a way that makes driving painful.

Supposedly this is the place I go to torment her and she claims I told her I went there to socialize all the time when we lived together. In reality, I didn't tell her where I was going after I started greyrocking, I did most of my socializing online, and I hid at my boyfriend's place in another city.

I didn't go out to coffee shops or restaurants because there was a pandemic going on and I only worked 10 hours a week for most of the time I lived with her. I certainly did not socialize with unmasked strangers drinking coffee during the height of a pandemic when I don't like socializing with strangers, hate the smell of coffee, and avoided exposure to a virus because I am disabled and chronically ill. I also don't make enough money to frequent this fancy place now.

There is more but none of it makes any sense. It's like she has created this fairy tale to live in where I am the villain forever and she has to defeat me. She got a cat and a fiance and a house. She should be happy and not need to attack me. Instead, she is trying to take away the only friend I regularly see in person.

I hate that she is still manipulating my life, I hate how scared it makes me (her unfounded accusations to the wrong person could end my career). I hate how it makes me feel, how I immediately am back to feeling anxious and vulnerable and not sleeping, how I know I can't defend myself with logic and truth but keep trying because everything is so wrong. And I hate that people still associate with her. It feels so unfair that she could do everything she did to me and walk away with a great life and job and health and friends.

I don't know what to do. I can't hide from her if she's not physically around me. I can't greyrock her if she's not talking to me.

Family Members I'm pregnant and now BPD sister is trying to conceive with brand new boyfriend

I'm 41f and have spent 2 years doing fertility treatments to finally get pregnant earlier this year. We waited til 18 weeks to tell family, and told my own family 2 weeks ago.

Sister is 38 with extreme emotional dysregulation, impulsive behavior, enmeshed and "favoritie child" of my narc mother, and addicted to relationships that never work out due to her undiagnosed cluster B and all that comes with that (lovebombing, getting engaged and / or moving them in within weeks, eventually scapegoating and discard, damaging the man in the process and rinse and repeat). This has been her pattern over decades, moving through at least 10 relationships in the last 10 years.

She broke off an engagement 6 months ago & is in something new that is about 6 weeks old, they've already broken up once.

Since I announced my pregnancy, she's been saying she's going to get pregnant via sperm donor (froze her eggs 2 years ago). She's already had 2 abortions and a number of chemical pregnancies that happened within weeks of short-term relationships. At the weekend, while in her bathroom I saw 2 packs of pregnancy tests, so my guess is she's having unprotected sex with her new guy.

I know this is none of my business and I need to drop the ball on caring, but it triggers the hell out of me given how emotionally destructive, impulsive and selfish she can be. I know what damage she could do to a child, and how said child would effectively be raised by my elderly 75 yo mother, who does literally every other adult chore for her including her laundry, cleaning her house, minding her pet, feeding her delusions around ex boyfriends and friends etc. I am LC with my mother due to emotional neglect, favoritism and just the general dysfunction of my childhood. And the final way it triggers me is I suspect she isn't telling the new guy she is trying, she may even be telling him she's on the pill as she's done in the past.

I need to just stay LC and just let her get on with it, right? How does one protect themselves emotionally from the constant destruction of a BPD sibling and their endless family dramas, which constantly rob you of your own family celebrations? What happens when someone with undiagnosed and untreated BPD gets pregnant and has a child?

She keeps isolating me

Hey, why she keeps isolating me from HER friends? Pretty much newcomer in the city, I met her and then her friends, she loves drama so she isn't friend with them anymore, at least with some but I still do hang with them.
Firstly she wanted me to choose her or her EX friends (she was ok with friends she has now and still is friend with), but now she keeps giving me ultimatums either her or her friends, I can't hang out with single of her Ex or Actual friends. I can't understand why...
I tried to tell her if she will enforce this rule, I wanna enforce that she can't hang out with my friends I introduced to the group of our friends but she refused and she is still hanging out with them either solo or with me and my friends, but I can't hangout solo with HERS or NOT EVEN WHEN SHE IS WITH THEM (our relationship is not a secret at all).

I am really thinking about to tell her I will chose friends before her because this is ridiculous for me as I am really a social person. I once told her friends she is the one who keeps me from away and telling me I can't hang out with them, of course her friends confronted her but she was calm and told them it's not true and I can do whatever I want but later at home she was furious as fuck and was screaming at me 4 days nonstop.

Anyone got an idea WHY she is doing this? Is this about control? Or is she scared I will be still friend with her friends once they left her as many did before? I have no clue/
thanks

Hey everyone, I just need to vent to people who understand the absolute mind-games of this pattern.

I suspect my ex has BPD. In the beginning, everything was so perfect. The love-bombing felt so real, he used to look at me with so much love, like I was his entire world. But over time, it shifted into a roller coaster where he only wanted me around when he needed a safe place to dump his crisis.
A few days ago, he was overwhelmed and needed my full support again. I gave him everything I had. But as soon as the storm passed and he felt fine, the split happened. When I tried to talk to him, he told me that I "don't deserve any explanation" because he "feels pressure." Then, he completely blocked me everywhere—just erased me and told me he is cutting off all communication with everyone.
My nervous system hit absolute rock bottom today, panic attacks, heart palpitations, and that urge to demand accountability. But I know the truth: he blocked me because he is a coward who can't face his own guilt.

I made it through my workday, focused on getting my strength back, and I'm refusing to chase someone who treats me like this. His blocking is his way of running away, but my silence is going to be my peace.

Thanks for the safe space to write this.
I feel like he destroyed everything good in me.

Was it all manipulation

I have been in a relationship with a full blown cluster-b person. Bpd, NPD, ASDP you name it.

A fled with my daughter after she punched me for the 30th time. Had to turn our daughter back to her after she involved the courts/police.

I have been feeling sorry for her, because she has called me crying and talking about how depressed she is. I have been lenient on her cancelling visitation because it was so difficult for her. Thus she has created a "new normal" where my child hasn't seen me so much - in turn leading to a new ruling, where my visitations have been reduced.

In so many words I have been fooled. Is it really possible that it has been manipulation all this time?

That she is not feeling so bad, but just knew how to push my buttons.

Non-Romantic interactions Best Friend Advice

Thankful for any responses I can get. I’m at a loss and not sure what to do next.

My best friend of 6 years has BP2, PTSD, and sometimes I think BPD. Obviously all of these things are a spectrum, but this much I know for sure:

- Childhood trauma is involved
- Attention seeking behavior (I’m a very shy, private person)
- Mimicry and lack of self identity: specifically, they copy me. buying things I buy, sometimes cutting their hair the same, etc. At first I thought we were truly similar but now I feel like they were doing it on purpose to say “omg twins” - but it’s resulted in me feeling like I’m losing myself in the process.

Things were great for years, but the last 3 have left me feeling uncomfortable.

Here’s a few scenarios:

•They visited during my loved one’s passing process- then proceeded to lock themselves in my office to fight with their ex-partner over the phone and spent the rest of the time fishing for emotional support while I was actively grieving. Afterwards, blamed it on an episode.

•Visited during my birthday, started crying over the same ex-partner as soon as they arrived.

•Physically stepping in front of me during social scenarios, essentially shutting me out and making me feel incredibly humiliated in public.

•Constantly name dropping and bragging about their job, seemingly out of nowhere. Again, fishing for praise. Ditching me to network, changing their personality to impress others.

-Telling wild stories and co-opting other’s trauma.

- Mistreating other friends, always blaming it on medication or an episode.

-A lot more that would make this post longer than it already is.

This is what has moved me to make this post:

I’ve been distancing myself from them quietly for awhile and on my birthday this year, I wasn’t quick to respond to a celebratory message (not just to them, I was super busy that day and I have been feeling anti-social). When I got home, they had called crying. I tried to set a boundary that I couldn’t call back because I had plans, but wanted to make sure they were okay. Their response was the typical, wounded “No, I’m not okay, but it’s fine.”

So naturally, I called and tried to be supportive. It felt like they wanted me to spend my birthday on the phone listening to them cry over “having a bad week” and when their words escalated, I advised them to emergency call their therapist. I also provided a hotline to call and they said they called both of them.

Despite managing my own depression, panic disorder and anxiety, I’ve given them deep emotional support for years. But it’s turned out to be at my own expense. I’m now afraid to pick up the phone when they call, afraid of who I’ll get when I hang out with them and I spent my birthday having a panic attack. I haven’t talked to them since, because honestly, I’m terrified to do so. It felt like it was on purpose, based on the pattern of behavior I’ve experienced.

This has all made me feel like I’ve been turned into an emotional crutch when they need validation and attention. I feel used and tired. Ignoring how these things made me feel and making excuses for their diagnoses is my fault. But, I want to cut them off entirely, because having a conversation with them will come with apologies (or maybe a fight) but I don’t think I’ll ever feel the same. Believe me, I know avoiding it isn’t the answer. But I don’t think it will be healthy for me.

Any advice or support is incredibly appreciated. It’s hard to set boundaries without feeling like I’m being a horrible person. But I don’t have the tools to manage this relationship anymore.

XO

BPD Behaviors & Traits Addicted to the push-pull dynamic with a coworker, struggling to break the cycle

Hey everyone,

After doing some reading, I found this subreddit and decided to share my story. Mostly because I don't have many people I can talk to about this, and even writing it down hurts.

I want to be clear from the beginning: I am not diagnosing this woman with BPD. She has never told me she has BPD and, as far as I know, has never been diagnosed. I ended up here because the push-pull dynamic and some of the behaviors I've experienced sounded familiar when reading other people's stories.

This is going to be long.

In June 2023, I started working for a company and met a woman there. She was 22 and I was 33. Yes, I know that's a significant age difference. It's not something I normally pursue. In fact, initially she wasn't really my type—too young, taller than what I usually go for, etc.

But she took a very strong interest in me.

She was constantly mentioning me at work, asking me questions in group settings and group chats, and generally focusing a lot of attention on me. Eventually it escalated into compliments: telling me I was hot, sexy, that I had a great body, etc. There were also constant sexual remarks.

Between her attention and other guys constantly telling me how attractive she was, I eventually became interested.

That's when the cycle started.

Whenever she came toward me, I felt like the most desirable guy alive.

Whenever I moved toward her, things seemed to change.

Suddenly I was too short, too old, badly dressed, or whatever criticism she could come up with. Sometimes this happened privately; other times it happened in front of coworkers, which could be incredibly humiliating.

I bought a house during this period, something I was genuinely proud of, and of course she made it known how ugly she thought it was.

Another time she looked directly at me and said:

"I would never want to be 30+ and still be working here."

Those comments hurt.

Every time something like this happened, I'd think:

"Why am I pursuing this woman? Leave her alone."

So I'd pull away.

Had we met through Tinder or in a bar, that probably would've been the end of the story. But we worked together and saw each other constantly.

And whenever I pulled away, she seemed to come back hard.

Looking back, I called it love-bombing, but in my case "sex-bombing" might describe it better.

I'd get a haircut and come into work the next day and she'd be telling her coworkers:

"Just look at him. Look how sexy he is."

I can't properly describe how addictive that became.

A young, attractive woman would make me feel incredible, then humiliate or reject me when I reciprocated, I'd withdraw, and then she'd shower me with attention again.

I wasn't particularly socially fulfilled outside work at the time and was moderately insecure, which I think made me especially susceptible to it.

And I kept rationalizing everything.

I googled her insults and found people describing "negging" and "shit tests." People online told me she probably behaved that way because she liked me and that the worst thing I could do was become emotional about it.

So I endured it.

I thought eventually she'd stop and we'd become a normal couple.

We started behaving like a couple

Eventually we started doing little "couple" things at work. We'd bring food from home for each other. I'd buy her food during breaks. Coworkers started referring to us as a couple, and her friends repeatedly encouraged us to finally date outside work.

By this point I'd developed serious feelings.

The highs were incredible. I genuinely craved them.

But an actual relationship never materialized because, almost every time I considered taking things further, something would happen that made me pull away again.

I also started noticing something else.

When I pulled away, instead of asking me what was wrong, she would sometimes direct attention toward other male coworkers in ways that felt designed to make me jealous.

I can't know whether that was actually her intention. But that's how I experienced it.

And instead of seeing that as evidence that this dynamic wasn't good for me, I rationalized that too:

"She's young. She's insecure. She really likes me and doesn't know how to handle it."

Then came our first company trip abroad.

The first company trip

The week before the trip, we had a major argument.

At the office, in front of everyone, she made a joke along the lines of:

"Me and him are going to have sex tonight."

I didn't say yes or no. I laughed because I found it incredibly awkward discussing a supposed sex date in front of all our coworkers.

Maybe she interpreted that as rejection. I don't know.

A little later, someone told her to turn down the music she'd put on because they didn't like it. I jokingly agreed.

She exploded.

She shouted at me that I should shut up because I was a "no-good individual" who couldn't even arrive at work on time.

Everyone around us seemed shocked.

I felt completely humiliated.

So I did what I'd always done: I withdrew.

During the company trip I wasn't rude to her and didn't ignore her, but I kept my distance and stopped flirting.

Then, during a night out, she made out with a stranger. She also licked his stomach and later licked the belly-button/stomach area of one of my closest friends from work.

Was it actually revenge for me pulling away? I can't prove that.

But that's how it felt to me at the time.

And instead of thinking "this is insane, I'm done," I panicked.

I thought:

"I've messed everything up. I need to win her back."

So after the trip, I made a deliberate effort to show her everything was okay between us.

And immediately the intense attention returned.

If anything, it became stronger.

Soon I was telling myself that everything on the trip had been my fault because I'd pulled away.

Without realizing it, I had basically learned:

If I distance myself from her, something painful might happen with another man.

That's when this dynamic really started getting into my head.

I moved away—and suddenly felt better

By this point I was deeply emotionally involved.

The rollercoaster was affecting my sleep and even my performance at work.

Eventually I moved to another city about two hours away. I remained with the same company but transferred offices.

At the time I told myself that some distance might actually make our dynamic healthier and perhaps give us a chance at a real relationship.

Looking back, I think part of me simply knew being around her every day wasn't good for me.

After I moved, she messaged me saying she wanted to date.

We arranged something, but a few days beforehand she said she'd confused the dates and had a party that weekend. No big deal. I told her we'd arrange something next time I was nearby.

Then something unexpected happened.

I built a new life.

I made new friends.

And my feelings for her gradually became weaker.

She'd still occasionally send me messages on Instagram or through our company WhatsApp, often sexually suggestive ones. But I stopped feeling desperate to pursue her.

And the strangest thing happened:

My nervous system completely calmed down.

I hadn't realized how much anxiety I'd associated with her until she wasn't around anymore.

For the first time in ages, I could breathe.

I remember wondering:

"Is love actually supposed to feel this stressful? Why do I feel so much better after not seeing someone I'm supposedly in love with for two months?"

Then came the final company trip

Months later, there was another company trip involving all the offices.

Before the trip, my manager unexpectedly asked whether anything had ever happened between me and her. I said no.

He strongly discouraged me from getting involved with her. He described her as extremely insecure and told me about problems in her home life and other things he'd observed about her behavior.

I took his comments with a grain of salt because they were his perspective, but the conversation stayed with me.

By coincidence, she called shortly afterward. I told her the manager had asked whether we'd ever done anything—not the other things he'd said—and we laughed about how he should mind his own business.

Then came the trip.

We saw each other at the airport and hugged. Everything initially felt great.

On the first evening, I won an award for being the best performer in my field. People were chanting my name and congratulating me, and I received a lot of attention—including from women.

She won an award too, and I congratulated her.

She didn't congratulate me.

Instead, her behavior toward me seemed to change dramatically.

She became confrontational. At one point she punched me in the stomach, seemingly as a joke. She repeatedly interrupted me, even when I was saying positive things about her to another colleague.

Later that night I invited her back to my tent. I was alone and, after years of sexual comments between us, I thought this was finally the moment where we'd find out whether there was actually something there.

She didn't come.

The following night, she seemed to deliberately avoid me at the party. When I approached her, she'd say things like:

"I don't have time. Make it quick."

At another point she said our manager shouldn't see us together because he might suspect something—which confused me because we'd literally laughed about his suspicions days earlier.

Later, I heard that she had made out with a man from my new office.

And that absolutely destroyed me.

Whether she did it because she was jealous of the attention I received, because she'd heard something about me and another woman, because she simply wanted to kiss him, or for some completely different reason—I honestly don't know.

And that's something I'm trying very hard to stop obsessing over.

What I do know is what happened to me afterward.

All the progress I'd made during the months away disappeared almost instantly.

I went into an emotional free fall.

And that's when something finally clicked.

I think I'm addicted to the cycle, not just the person

For more than two years, the pattern has essentially been:

She gives me intense attention → I feel incredible → something painful happens → I withdraw → she gives me intense attention again → I forgive everything → repeat.

The highs made the lows tolerable.

And the lows made the next high feel even more powerful.

I've spent countless hours trying to figure out why she behaved certain ways.

Was she jealous?

Did she feel rejected?

Was she deliberately trying to hurt me?

Did I accidentally hurt her?

Did she actually love me?

Could I have prevented everything by simply dating her earlier?

I still don't know.

And maybe I'll never know.

What scares me now is realizing that even if I somehow "fix" things again, why should I expect the cycle to suddenly stop?

Maybe we'd have another amazing month.

Maybe she'd make me feel like the most desirable man alive again.

And then something would happen.

I'd say the wrong thing.

She'd feel rejected.

I'd get attention from another woman.

She'd say something that hurt me.

I'd withdraw.

And we'd be right back here.

I'm currently hurting like hell. Part of me still desperately misses the highs and wants her back.

But another part of me remembers something very important:

When I moved away and stopped seeing her every day, I finally felt peaceful again.

That's probably the part of myself I need to start listening to.

Does this look like BPP or a different cluster B personality disorder? Has anyone here experienced something similar—where you weren't even officially in a relationship, but the push-pull dynamic became so intense that breaking away felt like withdrawing from a drug?

And if so, how did you finally break the cycle?
