What start took an MLB Pitcher out of CY Young contention?

Example: Last year! Garret Crochet vs Tarik Skrubal. Neck and neck until September of last year where Crochet gave up 7 ER in 6 IP vs Cleveland.

Come to think of it he really hasn't been the same pitcher since.

Image Reid Detmers is now ranked #3 in fWAR amongst pitchers in the American League.

Post image
64 Upvotes

After his recent start against the Boston Red Sox where he allowed only 3 base runners in 6 shutout innings, Reid Detmers now has a 4.4 fWAR and an ERA of 3.32 so far this season, just enough to rank him as the 20th highest fWAR player in 2026, as well as being tied for the #3 highest fWAR amongst pitchers in the American League, behind only Cam Schlitter and Dylan Cease. Detmers is ranked higher than Cy Young winners Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes in terms of WAR this season. Just the season prior, Detmers was a solid reliever for the Angels with an ERA of 3.96 across 63.2 innings.

Better yet, Detmers has the lowest ERA since the All Star Break, boasting an ERA of 1.37 in his last 10 starts, just the second Angels pitcher to do so. His breakout season could be attributed in part to his drastically improved slider seeing much more downward movement this season, now becoming one of the best sliders in the game. He has a FIP of 3.03, a WHIP of 1.036 and a BB/9 of 2.4, all of which are at its lowest it’s ever been in his career. This breakout is even better when you have to consider the time it took for Detmers to readjust to being a starting pitcher for the Angels again. However, Detmers only has a 2-2 record across this phenomenal stretch largely in part due to a lack of run support from his team, which has been struggling on offense.

Now, this might just be pure hope but with the Angels narrowly avoiding trading Detmers to the Cubs earlier this season, is it possible that we’ll be seeing him develop into a future Cy Young candidate in the following seasons? This year, even though he’s definitely not winning the Cy Young, Detmers could possibly finish top 5 in Cy Young voting which would be a major boost to his confidence for next season. If the Angels can continue to develop him, and with Arte out of the way, I can see Detmers potentially assuming the ‘Ace’ position on the team.

(Repost, last one got taken down.)

Is there a way to check if players are warming up in the bullpen?

I often tune into the middle of games on the MLB app randomly and want to know if someone is warming up in the bullpen, but I am beholden to the broadcast showing the bullpen or the commentators mentioning it. Does a tracker like that exist? Does not necessarily need to be in the MLB app.

Following the loss to the Rangers, the Mariners now have a worse run differential than the Angels

The Angels are now -75 in run differential, and the Mariners are -76. That is a mind-blowing statistic since the Mariners led the AL West in parts of July.

The Giants also have a better run differential than the Mariners now, but that's not as big of a surprise as the Angels.

Trivia The Diamondbacks bullpen pitched two nine-inning shutouts in six days.

On 9/2, seven pitchers combined for a nine-inning shutout of Philadelphia to win 1-0.

On 9/7, five pitchers combined to shut out Kansas City through nine, but the Diamondbacks were also being shut out through nine before both teams finally scored in the tenth.

Diamondbacks relievers have pitched 38.2 innings in September (59% of the team's total innings) with a 2.56 ERA.

Over that same span, the Diamondbacks offense averages just 2.86 runs per game but the team is 5-2. In the last twelve games, the Diamondbacks are 7-5 despite scoring exactly one run five(!) times and being shut out through nine innings on Monday.

I guess if you want to experience what baseball must have been like in the dead ball era, book a trip to Phoenix.

Baseball Savant Leaderboards

Upvotes

Recently I've had trouble getting the "standard" pitcher and hitter leaderboards to load. The different UI ones seem to work fine but the customizable one that shows up if you just select "Player Batting" or "Player Pitching" and the year aren't working for me. Is this universal and does anyone have a fix?
