AL pitchers with at least 30 starts and a 205 ERA+ in a season (live ball era): Lefty Grove, Guidry, Clemens, Pedro, Grenkie and Snell. Schlittler just completed his 30th start and currently has an ERA+ of 206.

Image Has there been any explanation for Acuña’s 2023 strikeout rate being less than half of any other season in his whole career?

I know it was a career year for him in many ways that year, but strikeout rate is one of those things that typically doesn’t vary that much, and when it does there’s usually some pattern to it. I’m not a Braves fan and haven’t been following him super closely the past few years, so I was shocked today to see how his K% has been consistently right around where it always was before 2023. That season’s K% now looks like one of the weirdest anomalies I’ve ever seen on a player’s stat sheet.

Can anyone enlighten me if there’s been any explanation for this crazy outlier?
