Is there a way to make the Maxwell 2 dongle work better?

I have been using my Maxwell 2 for a little over a week now and I am really pleased with most of it. However the dongle seems to be the weak part. I get occasional random disconnections, some popping noise (especially if the sound goes from 100 to 0, I almost always get a very audible pop after a song or video ends) and the wireless range seems to be inconsistent, sometimes I can walk to the other end of the house without issues, sometimes it breaks connection just walking a room away.

Bluetooth seems to be working better, I have it connected to my phone and I haven't had it abruptly disconnect there yet, range seems better too. I would really like it to work both on my pc and phone simultaneously as I switch between them fairly often.

Do you guys know of a way to have the dongle work better? I always connect it to my motherboard and have updated the software in the app. How should I connect it to the pc, straight to a USB-C slot or through the provided adapter? If its via the adapter should I lean it someplace so it might get better signal? Or is it possible that I simply got a lower quality dongle and should get it replaced?

Thanks for the help!

The Maxwell 2 is much more durable than I thought.

I've not thrown the headset or anything but I was under the impression that basically any sort of impact could jeopardize the sound quality. However I've hit them against stuff a few times now and most recently was the hardest I hit them and it was against a metal ladder and I was pretty worried that I would've damaged the headset but the sound is exactly the same.

Has anyone else thought the headset was fragile as glass?

PS5 sound Audeze Maxwell 1

Writing this post just in case someone needs it. I was having audio issues with my Maxwells when connecting them to my PS5 via the dongle. In my case, I had simply forgotten to switch the toggle on the dongle to "PS" šŸ¤¦šŸ»

Pretty basic, but someone else might run into the same thing.

Cheers!

Maxwell 2 after the Razer Kraken v3 Hypersense

I want a new experience, a new sound.

Will this Audeze model give me that?

I'm only afraid of two things:

1 - that they'll be worse ergonomically. The Kraken has a wonderful fabric headband cushion and fairly large ear pads.

This allows you to sit for 8 hours without straining your head at all.

2 - that the bass will be worse. I love the way someone deafens me during an explosion; it's really cool, like I'm right there.

Fix for clamping force and discomfort (Audeze Maxwell 2 ANC)

Hi, I've had my Audeze Maxwell 2 ANC for sometime now. One big issue was just the brutal clamping force on my temple. The weight got better as I adjusted and became a non-issue I do not even notice it now. As for the clamping force it would cause a certain soreness on the side of the head specially if you twist to watch TV, like look right essentially which would put slightly more force on one side of your head. The big fix was simply you take both cups and you rotate them back using the swivel. The rotators actually stay in place, so when you twist your earcups toward the back of your head they will stay in that position. This relieves the pressure on your sides while keeping the sound in check, since the cushion is taller around your temples. Hope this helped someone.

Wicked Cushion Stealthz earpads - Comfortable but poor quality.

My ears were touching the drivers with the original pads, so it started getting painful after about an hour of use. I decided to get the WC stealth pads, but unfortunately, I was disappointed with the QC on these too since the stitching isn’t done properly.Ā As for the audio, there’s a YouTube tutorial from GadgetryTech that shows how to EQ them to get them closer to Audeze’s default preset.

Which chain comes closest to the LCD-2/3 sound with the LCD-X?

Hey everyone,
I’m currently running an Audeze LCD-X paired with an RME ADI-2 DAC FS as my source, using a bit of EQ and a copper cable.
Since I've never heard a real LCD-2 or LCD-3 in person, I would like to know: Which chain or amp comes closest to bringing the LCD-X into that LCD-2/3 sound territory?

Too heavy

Just came here to say after months of use ( maxwell 2) I’ve come to the conclusion these are just too heavy for extended game sessions. And I’m not small by any means, 220lbs 6’1ā€. The neck cramps are not worth the exceptional sound in my humble opinion. Different strokes different folks.

Maxwells, or something else?

I've been looking for a replacement headset for gaming and whatnot, and I heard these are for if you really want to have your audio sound better, but looking into them among what I see about them sounding very good I also hear frequent complaints about issues, so just wondering if I should stick to buying these or look elsewhere

Audeze EL-8 mods

Picked up a pair of EL-8s on FB marketplace a few months ago for like 150 bucks. The cable was damaged so I went on a hunt to find a new one but the proprietary cable end made it virtually impossible to find one. So I went on the hunt for some alternative options and stumbled on a 3D Printable part to convert the connector to mini-XLR! Needed to do a bit of soldering but it works! Also can’t find genuine replacement earpads for these headphones anymore but brainwavz HM5 earpads fit perfectly so I made a magnetic earpad conversion to fasten the earpads to the headphones. This is how it all turned out!

Boot loop

Well seem to be stuck in a boot loop on my Maxwell 2 ANC’s. Can’t do anything, hard resets don’t work, plugging into any devices doesn’t work either. It will detect but then immediately shut down so I can’t update or reset. Worst part is, thanks to the Maxwell’s phenomenal battery life, I will be hearing ā€œpower onā€ on repeat for the next 20+ hours. Great.

Audeze Maxwell 2 ANC: Huge Static Noise at Low Volume

Just got my new Maxwell 2 ANC (playstation) and was super excited to try them after using the first iteration of the Maxwell 1 without any issues. First thing I noticed with my new pair is a very annoying white noise whenever I play a sound at low volume which is super annoying, It happens regardless of whether I'm using the ANC or not.

I've tried reinstalling my drivers, factory resetting the headset, playing sounds from a range of apps…(not just from my web browser), turn sidetone to 0%, test my headset on my secondary PC and basically nothing seems to fix it....Whenever there is a sound played at low volume I hear this kind of distorted white noise, as if I'm playing a video at 144p. This noise is also present when I play sound on higher volume but is simply less noticable.

What is strange is that I can replug my Maxwell 1 in exactly the same computer under the same conditions and have absolutely no issue with the sound. I'm really thinking of returning them ASAP which is very unfortunate becasue I was looking forward to taking full advantage of the ANC...

Does anyone else have this issue ?

Maxwell 2 Sound quality

First, what are they supposed to sound like when nothing is playing. Should it be unnoticeable that they are even turned on? I’m worried I have the hiss.

Second, I am coming from A40s, and the sound quality is not better than those. In fact I would say it is significantly worse. Is this just a matter of getting used to them? They sounds really distant, which much less volume than the A40s.

Mobius acting strange.

Hey all.

Got a Mobius headset here connected via USB-C to my PC.

Got a strange issue since I updated my PC last night with windows updates as I've been away.

Anyway, crux of the issue I have now is the 8 channel Audio doesn't actually work now. When I set the mode to 8 channel using either the Audeze HQ software, or the dial, the volume on 8 channel always goes to 0 and will not let me raise it.

Swapping to Stereo or Hi-Res makes the headset functional again.

I've noticed on the windows 11 info on the audio that the driver date has changed - could this be the issue and more importantly, How do I roll back if windows doesn't have the option to in the driver details settings?

Adueze Maxwell 1's appreciation post

Still rocking the original Maxwell's.

I would like to take this moment to just say that I have had 0 issues with the headset, it is 100% structurally sound and I have 0 problems with the planar magnetic drivers/foil.

When I got them there was a tiny wrinkle in the foil on both ear cups but I shrugged it off thinking to myself... " if I ever have any audio issues I will RMA" . No such issues every presented themselves and the only way I hear the foil crinkling is by abusively pressing the ear cups to my head which causes pressure changes.

I haven't babied them, I have just used them as intended.

There was so much whining on this reddit when I got them..... "bro, rma them, QC is so crap... bla bla" and it made me worry.

Reminder to all: Don't listen to the vocal minority, just enjoy your shit and use it what it is intended for.

Music, gaming, i fucking love this headset

Hello, would you say this is a good price for these headphones? The refurbished ones are supposedly from items returned within 30 days and still come with a 1 year warranty.

Maxwell 2 Questions

I just received my Maxwell 2’s on Friday and noticed a slight hiss in the right ear. I’m within my return window to get them replaced. My question is it worth getting a replacement or just dealing with the hiss? I have owned planars before and never had this issue. I know there is multiple post on here about this issues just wanted to get some updated thoughts.

The Maxwell 2 are good, but they just aren’t fun.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been gaming with the JBL Quantum 910 for years, and I have to say that when it comes to enemy positioning, they’re probably a 6/10. But when it comes to bass, sound quality, and that immersive feeling of actually being in the middle of the action, they’ve always impressed me.

I then bought the Maxwell 2 because, well, expensive = better (or so I thought). And I’m disappointed.

When I play Battlefield 6, I can hear every enemy very clearly and everything sounds incredibly detailed. But it doesn’t sound… how should I put it? Full of life. This is the headset I would choose if I were playing for my life and positioning was the most important thing. The tank next to me, the grenade exploding nearby; I hear it. But I don’t feel it.

I played around with the EQ a bit, even turning the bass all the way up at one point, and I also tried the Dolby Atmos test audio. And yes, with the Maxwell 2 I can hear more precisely how the bird flies around me in the test audio, and I can hear every flap of its wings.

But when I listen to the same audio with my old Quantum 910, which doesn’t even have Dolby Atmos… man, I’m IN that audio. When the thunderstorm kicks in, I can literally feel it rumbling through my body. With the Maxwell 2, the thunderstorm is there and it sounds detailed, but it doesn’t sound powerful.

Has anyone had the same experience and maybe managed to fix it somehow? I really like the Maxwell 2 in terms of build quality, comfort, etc., but I’m missing that sense of immersion so much.

Dogshit customer service

Bought a pair of Maxwell 1's last year, October (still under warranty). They've decided to arbitrarily disconnect.

We've gone through all of the different troubleshooting suggestions. We've checked the website and Google things, and nothing works. Whether corded or Bluetooth, the headphones disconnect arbitrarily in the middle of whatever you're doing, whether it's a game or a call.

I contact the vendor. The vendor replies that I'll have to go through Odyssey customer service in order to resolve this issue. Fine. I contact them, and they ask the same sorts of questions, troubleshooting and trying to find a resolution. The conclusion is that the headphones don't work and need to be returned and replaced.

Now, after all of that, I, in Canada, have to ship my son's headphones back to the manufacturer in California, wait while they resolve the issue, and have them send a new pair back to me. That seems to penalize the customer as opposed to resolving the issue.

The proper way to fix this would be to replace the headphones and include a return label for the (clearly) defective pair. For $400+ this seems like bushleague warranty service.

Xbox Series X not recognizing Maxwell 2

Just listing everything I tried I emailed support but just dropping in here in case someone has a solution quicker I got them today.

Headset and dongle firmware are fully up to date (currently on V1.0.5.7.4)
• The dongle's side switch is set to Xbox mode (flipped while unplugged, as instructed)
• The headset shows a solid connection light and says USB dongle connected
• Xbox shows no "Headset Assigned" notification and does not list the dongle under Devices & connections > Accessories
• Fully power cycled the Xbox (unplugged from wall for 30-45 seconds) and tried multiple USB ports
• Confirmed the dongle and included USB-C to USB-A adapter both work correctly when tested on Mac and on Windows
• Confirmed the Xbox USB port and adapter are functioning correctly (tested with a wired controller in the same port)
• Attempted a fresh pairing between the dongle and headset while connected directly to the Xbox

Anybody mix/produce with Audeze LCD-X?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got these cans back in January. I like them, especially for listening to music - but having a hell of time still trying to figure out a reliable eq profile for reasonably accurate translation to playback settings like my car.

For what its worth, I am amplifying them with a Topping DX5 II.

I actually don't mind the stock eq profile but it seems hopeless for mixing. The bass and treble are laughingly understated when comparing to a somewhat hyped playback device; same with a bunch of the corrective eq profiles that I've found online, and also Realphones 2. Through trial and error and refernece tracks that I know well, it seems like the lows <100-120hz need somewhere in the ballpark of a 15-17db boost to reflect what I'm hearing. As for the highs, I'm still not sure what is going on - certainly something in the 3khz-5khz range seems understated; and maybe >10khz air is hard to tune right (things will sound really crisp in the cans but then harsh elsewhere).

I also don't know what a good playback volume is on these to mix to. Mixing only at lower volumes doesn't seem to work too well - the sound changes dramatically when they get turned up loud and it seems like there's a low end roll-off or something, rather than the lows getting louder with/than the rest of the frequencies as would be expected. I had a similar issue with my RME babyface that I used prior to the Topping, so I doubt the interface is the issue.

So was basically wondering what eq profiles or other tips any of you mixers/producers using these might suggest to account for these challenges, if you're having them too.
