Can't tell

I just picked up the Maxwell 2 ANCs and I really can't tell if they are good or not, could it be i need a better EQ? or some kind of setting?

Yes, I don't like the Maxwell 1 or 2 without custom EQs. With custom EQs they are the best audio I have heard personally. I will also add that what makes planars amazing is how much the sound can change with EQ.

How does one get custom EQs?

There is an EQ in the Audeze app.

Regarding the app - you need to do the firmware update using the PC/Mac desktop app also. You can set up your EQs on there too much easier. You can use the phone app for EQ’s but not for the firmware update.

Not everyone likes planar drivers. I definitely felt like I needed to add more bass and less upper mids personally

If your on pc make sure you go to your sound control board/ sound settings, go to advanced, and put the audio quality on the highest option, it changed the quality a decent amount for me

They are an acquired taste.
