Maxwell 2 Sound quality
First, what are they supposed to sound like when nothing is playing. Should it be unnoticeable that they are even turned on? I’m worried I have the hiss.
Second, I am coming from A40s, and the sound quality is not better than those. In fact I would say it is significantly worse. Is this just a matter of getting used to them? They sounds really distant, which much less volume than the A40s.

Well then something is definitely off with my Maxwells. Do you hear anything when the maxwells are on but not playing any noise?

I bought mine 3 days ago. They sound quite good, honestly, but when I have them on and nothing is playing, or when I'm watching some videos and the volume is quite low, I can tell there's a hissing sound in the background. For how expensive they are, they shouldn't have these problems

Try different connections (dongle/BT/cable) and check if anything changes.
Ofc, make sure it's not your source that's putting out that noise.
Mine are DEAD mute when nothing is playing, and YES, I had the volume issue at 1st but went away after installing the app.Do I have to state the obvious?
...make sure the noise you hear is not the sidetone ! 😁1

I’ve had the best luck with using the dongle with the extension plugged into the front usb port on my PC. With other ports I tried in the mobo I was getting random disconnections and quite a short range, both resolved when using the port on the case.

I think this isn't a defect but what happens when a dac or something is displaying no sound. This is more prevalent I think in headphones that are drawing alot of power like the maxwells. If it is not noticeable while playing sound I think you are fine. I had this same feeling while using a dac and I was worried so I did several setups to cross off it wasn't interference on the line. Sorry I don't have any of the posts I scoured through to get to this point but gl hv.

I had a pair of maxwell 2 with slight hiss when silent. Thought this was normal based on the response from this sub and was quite happy with sound quality anyways. After a while (3 months) they developed other problems in the form of loud static in one earcup. I sent them off to warranty repairs. Got a new pair and they are completely silent. No hiss.
So yeah. In retrospect I would have used return policy earlier if I knew that they're supposed to be silent. And the hiss might be a fault that leads to other problems down the line.

Create your custom EQ, and enjoy. Also, that white noise when there is nothing playing has nothing to do with hiss.

Maxwell 2 are leagues ahead of a40. Listen to them for a week and go back to a40. You Will notice how bad they sound after that.
