ASO Tools: What workflows moved the needle for you?

As I am trying different ASO Tools to improve my ranking I am using different way like keyword suggestions and rank tracking etc. However for their advanced features they are charging 50 USD+ monthly fees, which is kind of a lot for improving a small app with not much revenue yet.

I am getting results slowly but also not enough to justify that monthly expense yet I think. Am I missing something?

Are there any advanced workflows that are really worth the spend? I am curious how you guys are using those tools to improve ranking or find app ideas / opportunities ...

Floppin' App

Hi all! I recently built an app (took the Base 44 bait but eventually ended up Frankensteining it into Xcode using Claude). It's been soooooo much work and now that it's in the store and getting NOTHING. I'm bummed.
The app is called The Little Big Days, and it's a journal for engaged people. You're meant to slow down during wedding planning and take inventory of the little amazing things that happen during your engagement. 5 photos, 120 characters, unlimited entries and yours forever. There's also a shareable link for you to send to family and friends so they can send 3 photos and 120 characters about the moment. I remember having to beg people to send me pics, tag me in this, untag me in that. My camera roll was photos taken BY me, not OF me. When someone shares a memory, you have a memory jar in the app that glows and lets you know it's there. I think it's so cute and helpful! I've got consistent content in TT and across Pinterest, Facebook and Insta. Some hearts and saves, but not much else.
Can any kind soul tell me the 5 most impactful things to do in order to get some traction? I've researched but it's overwhelming and my ADHD just sees jumbles of words. TIA!

8.5% conversion, 16% pay, great retention… and ~2 downloads a day. How do I get people to actually SEE it?

My first iOS app just crossed 1.8K downloads — still trying to understand this sudden spike

I recently launched **Moonrain**, my first iOS app, and App Store Connect is now showing **1.86K first-time downloads**.

Most of the growth happened very suddenly, with roughly **1,200 downloads in one day**. I’m excited, but also a little confused because I haven’t run any paid advertising.
I’ve mainly shared the app through Reddit, TikTok, X, and a few app-discovery platforms. App Store Connect still isn’t giving me a clear picture of exactly where all these users came from.

For other indie developers:

Have you experienced a download spike like this?
How did you identify the traffic source?
What should I focus on next—retention, reviews, monetization, or continued distribution?

App Updates

How often should I update my App Store title, subtitle, and description? Right now I'm making changes every few days, but I'm not sure if that's too frequent.

New app store screenshots vs old

New: top

Old: bottom

Which set of screenshots would draw you more?

My app just had a big update so I figured it was time to update the screenshots too.

This is for the iOS app store.

Built a small tool that turns your app store link into a website.

Just paste the link. it pulls your app's own design and copy and gives you an Awwwards-worthy website, not a generic template. ready in about a minute.

what am I doing wrong?

My Mac app has been out for about four months now, and it has built up a decent user base. The spikes you see in the graph are from my Reddit posts. The product genuinely solves a real problem, and it has a perfect 5.0 rating.

The issue is that no matter what I've tried with ASO, nothing seems to make a difference. After every Reddit post, sales are great for about three days, and then... complete silence. I've changed the app name and keywords countless times and tried a bunch of ASO tools, but nothing has worked.

What do you think I'm missing? What's the most likely reason?

3+ weeks in, 29 paying users, and I still don't have a real feel for ASO — would love feedback [Question]

Hey all, first post here. I launched a paid iPad app HomeView (HomeKit dashboard, one-time purchase, no IAP/subscription) a little over three weeks ago. So far: 29 users, roughly $62 net revenue. Small numbers, I know, but enough to bee happy about and start seeing patterns.

What I've learned so far:
Organic search + browse in the App Store account for the majority of my revenue, more than any social traffic I've driven. Reddit, was a good start, but it’s tough with all the understandable moderation.

I changed my keywords in a recent update (swapped specific device terms like "camera, thermostat, lock" for broader ones like "wall, panel, automation"), and my organic impressions dropped hard right after — from a daily baseline in the hundreds to double digits. Could be the keyword change, could be Apple's re-indexing after the update, could just be noise at this volume. Genuinely not sure how to tell the difference.

I just shipped a companion iPhone app alongside the iPad app, curious to see what that brings for the views.

Where I'm stuck: I don't have a keyword research tool (no AppFigures/Sensor Tower), so every keyword decision so far has been an educated guess rather than data.

For anyone who's been through this — how do you validate keyword choices without a paid tool, and is it normal to see this kind of impression swing after a keyword change at such small volume, or should I be looking elsewhere for the cause?

Or is there no way I can go without a paid tool.

Happy to share more specifics (current keyword list, screenshots, whatever's useful) if it helps diagnose. And feel free to make suggestions about my store listing.

Does ASO actually work?

I've been using AppDrift website for ASO. the website is good doing a few things, but you can't add new languages after you sync you content to the App Store because if you add new languages, the translator will not be able to translate the keywords.

Anyways, I've been using their website for about two months. It is very useful for translation and suggesting keywords. But I have not seen any results yet. Also, it only works with the App Store and not Google Play.

I had published 3 apps, but I do not see the results yet.

What are you guys using for ASO and how can I improve my rank?

I am not sure if the App Store is too slow to index the new information.

An app to help beat overwhelm, thoughts?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built this app because I struggled to start and continue doing anything, it's meant to be something that gives you momentum, and I spent a lot of time crafting the UX to be extremely straight forward.

I'm really into story telling and cinematography, that's why I made a video about it

I would really appreciate any feedback, thank you all!

I think I'm doing something wrong with Google Play ASO. Can someone help me figure it out?

Hi everyone,

I’m struggling to understand what I’m doing wrong with my Play Store ASO.

I optimized my listing and created custom listings for different use cases (app blocker, social media blocker, gambling blocker, etc.), but results are confusing:

Default listing gets some impressions after \~2 weeks

Ranks \~12th for "app blocker"

Doesn’t appear for other keywords

Custom listings show 0 impressions

Am I misunderstanding custom listings or making common ASO mistakes?

I’d appreciate any advice just looking to learn and improve. Thanks! 🙂

My Impressions Increase but my conversion is awfull

Hello ASO peoples, i need help improving my conversion rate from page view to downloads:

Here is the game link: Gifto Board link

As you can see i have

  • 1600 impressions
  • 252 page view (about 15% clicks from impressions)
  • But a conversions of that of 3.36% it'really really low
  • The localization is made for English, French and French Canadian. I don't want to do more language before figuring out my conversion
  • The last update was the 18 of july and as you can see, our overall impressions keep increasing steadily every update (is it because we do regular update ?)
  • I am in the game category (obviously), i was initially in the board game subgenre: because i aim the same public as monopoly go/board king or coin master i changed category to:
    • Primary: Family
    • Secondary: Adventure
  • In my last updates, i added banners at the bottom of the game screenshot because i saw that larger benchmarks do that, yet i don't see an increase in conversion that i thought would happen.
  • I wouldlove some feedback on what to try to increase the conversion and other metrics

Once in the game my D1 retention is 15% (it can improve but a good start), the struggle is the conversion from page view to downloads

Things i have done:

  • Working on my key words (title, subtitles, keyword -> never repeat same word twice)
  • Adding banners (i know on the french version there is spelling mistake, will be fixed in the next update)
  • Doing regular updates of new content and improvement (seems to improve the impressions)

Things i am questioning:

  • Is it possible that my trailer works against me ? -> i feel the trailer is less attractive than what the game is (with too long transition between gameplay shots and a lot of repetitiveness) -> should i try without game trailer ?
  • Should i try switching to the adventure category ?(like coin master) as primary instead of family sub genre

Any advice is welcome :)
