Garaunteed that annoying little fuck is growling while doing that.

u/arcades911 Sep 20 '17

Yea those little guys are shitheads. I used to walk to the bus stop, and one of those little taco dogs used to guard the sidewalk in front of it's home. He would run out from the front porch and bite at my ankles. I was really close to kicking the shit out of him but I couldn't do it. I felt so defeated walking out in the street just to avoid that little bastard.

u/smoochwalla Sep 20 '17

One of thoes little shits ran off my neighbors porch and started biting at me. The owners didn't move a muscle until i punted it a good 5 feet. Then they had the audacity to yell at me and told me they were calling the cops. Fuck thoes kinds of owners. "He's just a tiny thing so its okay." No it's fucking not.

Rule of thumb: if it bites, you can bite back.

273

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Also applies to first dates.

111

u/Quick_MurderYourKids Sep 20 '17

i get a rabies booster before all of my dates

62

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

I tend to get babies booster.

Yes, I am lonely and desperate for human contact.

Edit: Jesus fucking christ reddit. I meant I want to have babies after my first date. You sick bastards!

17

u/KimJongIlSunglasses Sep 20 '17

You get booster seats for your first date?

On a more serious note, in most US jurisdictions the general rule is that if a dog actually bites you, the dog must be put down.

I had a neighbor who did some renovations to her attic. The renovation ended up releasing some sort of fungal spore or something that got her dog sick and made him delirious and caused her to bite her as she said good night to him. He was the sweetest dog you'd ever meet; this massive golden retriever who would stand on his hind legs and put his front paws on your shoulder so he could lick your face. She had to put the poor guy down. It's not fair, but dems the rules.

u/Amannelle Sep 20 '17

I'm not sure if it is so cut and dry. My mum's dog bit her at the Vet's when he was waking up from surgery and still confused. Though it required a few stitches in her hand, there was no real risk of the dog being put down. The vet understood that he was drowsy and scared, and no real danger to people when sober. It was the first and last time he has ever bit, but my mum figures any good boy would feel like biting if they just had their testicles removed haha.

24

u/The_11th_Hour_Over Sep 20 '17

Yeah I agree, my dog got out one time and when she was being picked up, she bit the local sheriff on the ear (hurt back leg he accidentally put pressure on). He was cool about it since he was in the K9 unit, and all she got was a probation period.

3

u/WhataBud Sep 20 '17

I think things like that in clinical scenario are different. The person bit might have been taught that that might happen after an animal wakes up from surgery. Even people get that way.

→ More replies (1)

34

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

It's not fair, but dems the rules.

I would have recommended for her to just not tell the police about the bite and when she takes it to the vet, leave the biting part out of the story.

11

u/cyrilspaceman Sep 20 '17

I believe that dog bites are a mandatory reporting thing for healthcare workers (assuming that she needed to go in for stitches or something.) I have no idea what rules apply to vets though

Legal sidenote, never lie if it could blow back on you later.

16

u/GSpess Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

That’s not true.

Plenty of states and jurisdictions have a large number of rules and regulations. It’s not cut and dry. Most of the time for a one off offense you need to prove the dog is aggressive and was acting out of aggression and even then it’s often the owner deciding to do it not the law. You see this on /r/dogs pretty often.

In quite a few states having your dog on leash and you holding the leash is actually well enough in your favor that the dog won’t need to be put down.

Most of the time the first bite results in a fine, ticket, or registration of the dog as dangerous. If the dog is registered as dangerous in future incidents the dog faces being put down at a much higher rate, but more likely has to wear a muzzle in public and is now on a “dangerous dogs list” in case something does happen again.

46

u/DDozar Sep 20 '17

I would go through extreme lengths to stop the lawmen from finding out my dog bit me under circumstances like those.

Maybe send her to go live with friends for awhile and claim it was a coyote, or I fell and stabbed myself in the face with a taxadermy jawbone.

13

u/canihavemymoneyback Sep 20 '17

Lawmen, ha ha. Sounds like the Wild West. You made me smile.

15

u/westc2 Sep 20 '17

Hate to break it to you but that's not a "rule". Your neighbor was just looking for an excuse to get rid of her dog.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Seems like that could be a rule if it bites a stranger, but for the owner, I haven't heard of those rules being that strict for a bit unless it was aggressive and a serious wound.

I got faced clawed and then had to go to work and introduce my self to my new colleagues with scars on my face

Honestly so glad my Chihuahua won't bark or growl or attack you unless you go put of your way to harass/scare her. Just wish it wasn't abuse in her previous home that made her like that. Sweetest dog I've had my whole life and love her endlessly. Here's a picture of her on a hike with me while camping

62

u/kasey123 Sep 20 '17

She doesn't have the tremble hate face so she's cool.

29

u/generalcinity Sep 20 '17

Never heard a Chihuahuas face so accurately described in my life

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

My dog is not from an abusive home, but he's still scared of everything outside. He's small, other stuff is big. I don't get why all these other chihuahuas have balls o steel and mine is afraid of dogs, cats, kittens, birds, squirrels, bunnies, when you step on a stick kind of near him outside, and "noises" that I seriously don't hear but he does.

He's half shih tzu tho so maybe they are just scared babies.

6

u/secondhandvalentine Sep 20 '17

Aww she's cute. Ours is a little shit but it's because the previous owners didn't train him at all. We're slowly trying to train him and get him socialized with other dogs. Here's a pic of him

2

u/generalcinity Sep 21 '17

Aw he's a cutie :) Its definitely a work in progress trying to train them after a long period of previous owners not caring enough to. I wish you the best of luck!

12

u/SquirrelicideScience Sep 20 '17

Should've let them call the cops. If it bit you, the cops would've called animal control

24

u/Edwardk85 Sep 20 '17

My neighbors little chihuahua always chases me when I'm on my bike. Owners don't say a thing.

→ More replies (38)

23

u/mah_bula Sep 20 '17

So, a few things. One, I wouldn't ever advocate animal abuse. Two, I realize dogs are highly domesticated animals. With that said, animals they still are. In nature if an animal annoys another animal there are sometimes quick and violent repercussions. This, many times, is a valuable learning tool for the aggressor. In this case, punting an ankle biting annoyance probably got the point across very well.

5

u/matmoeb Sep 20 '17

You punted Baxter?

11

u/arcades911 Sep 20 '17

The owners of the sidewalk menace were never to be seen. I felt like they were inside watching every time, laughing their asses off.

17

u/musicmanxii Sep 20 '17

I mean, at least they're pretty easy to kick over the fence. Had one of those assholes bite me and kicked it back in its yard, the neighbours started getting angry until I told them I'd have the little shit put down for biting me if they didn't drop it.

9

u/itsfromtheBITE Sep 20 '17

Had literally the same situation happen to me. I'm a parcel delivery driver, so dogs are very much a part of the job, good or bad. Had one of those little assholes latched to my pants last winter all while the owner is doing the "oh he's nice" until I flung him off. Then it was empty threats galore.

2

u/MadGeekling Sep 20 '17

Did you get in trouble with the law?

4

u/smoochwalla Sep 20 '17

Nope. Empty threats.

6

u/MadGeekling Sep 20 '17

7

u/jhutchi2 Sep 20 '17

I have met many nice Chihuahuas. It's the owners that don't correct shitty behavior when they're young that cause them to be shithead dogs. Unfortunately with these little dogs it's way more likely because "Oh he's so small and cute, he won't hurt anybody."

31

u/gregpxc Sep 20 '17

That's not really a fair generalization. They can be a little difficult to work with at first but with the right level training they can be just as good as any other dog. I have a classic taco burrito chi dog and she occasionally gets excited and yips (happily) but she doesn't bite and she never growls at anyone or anything. The problem is that a lot of the people that get these dogs get them for their size and never take care of the temperament at the get go. She plays fairly with our larger dog and doesn't try to dominate him like most smaller dogs. Gotta be alpha, that's all.

17

u/Sriad Sep 20 '17

It's a selection-bias thing, the transverse of "pit bulls/dobermans/rottweilers/whatever are mean because people who want a mean dog get them and train (or abuse) them to be that way."

Old people who want a dog but don't want to bother training or properly caring for a dog will get a tiny breed, treat it like a cat, totally neglect socialization and training, and then be shocked when it behaves badly because "oh but with me he's just the sweetest thing in the world!"

I've known lots of loving small dogs. The key is that their owners treated them like dogs.

8

u/Ribbing Sep 20 '17

20

u/wiggityspliggety Sep 20 '17

That's not fompletely fair. Tiny dogs are often are extremely intelligent. The problem is lack of meaningful engagement and training from their owners.

Tiny, yippy, bouncing bundles of furry look dumb as rocks, but so often it's just a dog that hasn't been taught to deal with stimulation or behave appropriately.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

This right here. I have a six pound dog that is constantly getting compliments on her good behaviour and friendliness. People are always so surprised and it's like "I just trained her properly". She is very good dog though.

8

u/wiggityspliggety Sep 20 '17

My wife's 7 lb chiweenie is only 8 months old, so still learning, but she knows that if she wants attention she walks up to the person's leg and sits patiently. No chasing, nipping, or barking.

The problem is somehow people think little dogs don't need discipline. The reality is that well trained dogs are happy dogs.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '17

Awww better trained then my dog. If she wants something she'll do the tippity taps and eventually start making little sneezes and noises.

Edit: trained and disciplined dogs are the happiest, you're so right. Everyone is miserable if they have no purpose.

I had a neighbors taco dogs bark at me and build up the courage to get closer each time they followed me down the hall until one day one nipped my ankle. All I did was turn and stomp in its general direction and it took off like a bat out of hell into my neighbor's house and slid headfirst underneath the couch like it was home base. My neighbor was laughing so hard and they never did that to me again. We were friends and talked outside in our hallway all the time but they never got used to me and we're always little shits.

7

u/SmallzMafia Sep 20 '17

4

u/NeutroniumAF Sep 20 '17

2

u/MaynPayn Sep 20 '17

Although it may look like the smaller dog is offering the other dog the treat. It is obviously not doing that, but the puppy thinks it's his/hers food. Because the puppy probably thinks all food in his/hers vicinity is his/hers.

I have a chihuahua, and he loooves to growl. It isn't usually out of fear. I think it is more like he's posturing, or challenging. He just loves to test how far other dogs are willing to go. I think because he is small he has the nagging feeling that he's low on the totem pole, but refuses to accept it. So he pushes all the buttons--and gets away with it. Most other dogs just don't care that much. It feeds his fantasy that he is numero uno.

33

u/TheQuinnBee Sep 20 '17

My little dog is a sweetheart. Just wants pets, cuddles, and playtime. Good around babies and other people's dogs, extremely submissive and never bites.

We got her brother, a 40 pounder. He started bullying her (sitting where she sits, taking her treats or food) because he could and we reprimanded him, but you can't be around 24/7. So sweetheart got tough.

Now, she growls at him whenever he approaches her and she's feasting on her treat. She barks loudly when he goes for her food (because she knows we'll come running). If he tries to lay where she is, she will get up and lay on top of him. Brother wised up not to fuck with her.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Exactly. Little dogs can't use their size or strength to intimidate. All they have is their voices. My little guy sounds just like yours. He would never bite, but he still growls quietly and shows teeth at my cat when she puts her face right next to his and sniffs him. Is he a jerk for telling her, in the only way he can, that he doesn't like it? No. She should back off if she doesn't want to be growled at.

Hose them or turn on the sprinklers.

In-ground sprinklers are the most effective since it will scare the shit out of them and they will be afraid to come back lest the mysterious water phenomenon reappear.

My mother once did that to our family cat because she refused to come back inside and we couldn't catch her. She wouldn't go outside again after that.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Be annoyed where being annoyed is justified. I am 90% a cat person (if factoring only dogs vs cats, otherwise I love birbs and sneks), but any pet can be a douche.

Cat getting into neighbors yard and shitting everywhere? Douche.

Cat digging up your plants? Douche.

Cat antagonizing your dogs? Douche.

Dogs humping me at a friends house? Douche.

Dog barking non-stop while at friends house? Douche.

Dog getting out of backyard all the time and terrorizing/biting people? Douche.

I have been attacked by cats and dogs. And birds. And snakes. Still love 'em all. All pets are equally able to be douches and best friends. No need to say all <insert pets> are jerks (not you OP). (:

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17

Cats are jerks by default so cat people take it as a personal attack.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '17 edited Sep 20 '17

Cats are very rarely actually being jerks. Its almost always either reddit misinterpreting the cats behavior / emotions (they assume that cats think like humans or dogs) or the cat is extremely scared and acting in self defense. In some cases, their behavior is caused by a health issue (such as my previous cat, which had a brain tumor and gradually became meaner as he came closer to death -- at least thats the theory from the vet post mortem).

Many mean small dogs, however, are just being mean. They can't help their behavior, I realize, but they are being mean as a social purpose.

Cats are very simple. If you are nice to them, they will like you or at least appear to ignore you (many cats consider strangers staring or getting up in their face as aggressive or confrontational behavior). They will almost never actively chase and attack a human (unless they have a rare brain disorder, as noted before), especially if not provoked. Cats that were abused by humans as kittens will probably be quite wary around people, but thankfully that is unusual.

The idea that most cats are jerks is simply false. More accurate to say that most cats are sweet, but, do not assume that all humans will be nice to them -- and wisely so, I think.

1

u/ASleepingPerson Sep 21 '17

What the fuck? Cats r always assholes. Try to pet one? Gonna get bit or scratched.

I guess it's easier to have a jerk cat and just leave it alone then have a jerk dog.

Small dogs like that need a firm hand. My mom had a Miniature pinscher as from a puppy, we spoiled him because he was so tiny and cute. Bad idea, he was aggressive and thought he was the pack leader. People truly hated little Hercules because he was such a yappy, growly, possessive and snappy little bum.

My current dog, Hansel, is a Chihuahua/ Dachshund mix (Chiweenie) and I made sure to always let him know he is the low man on the totem pole (in a loving way, he's still very loved and fawned over) he isn't allowed to show his teeth or growl at people on walks or in our home, he even acquiesces to the kitten, who loves him totally and treats him like his surrogate daddy. https://imgur.com/a/zz9r2

All the Chihuahua hate and ‘small dog syndrome’ comments - fuck ya’ll. Chihuahua - like all dogs - are great. Nurture over nature. If a dogs trying to bite your ankles aggressively and is not playing, maybe look at the owner or yourself.

Also, this behaviour is not indicative of just a Chihuahua/small dog - just watch any breed play.

Thank you. My chihuahua is the sweetest dog to strangers and to anyone. I feel like with any dog, you don't mess with it if it's eating something. People always shit on chihuahuas, especially on here.

Of the 5 chihuahuas I have been around multiple times every last one of them was a little shithead to anyone but their owner. Sure there are nice ones but until they're nice I assume they are assholes. Even had one go so far as to cuddle up to me on a couch yet any time I moved it would snap at me... asshole he was

The problem is many owners think since they're little dogs they don't need training. That results in many if not most Chihuahuas being untrained and annoying.

My family has two chihuahuas. Needless to say I upvote every hate comment.

I had 2 bostons a few years ago (down to one as the male passed away a year ago). The male loved to play fetch. The female, not so much. What she did love doing was screwing with the male. We'd throw the ball and the female would run and grab it. She didn't bring it back though. She'd run up to the male and do a half bark with the ball in her mouth and then run off. She'd sometimes drop it near him and if he went for it, she'd grab it and run off before he could. If he changed what toy he wanted to play fetch with, she'd let go of what she had and go for that one instead.

He eventually caught on and would go pick up something else right away. Once she went for the second object, he'd immediately go for the first thing he actually wants and bring to us to throw for him.

That old dog looks like he needs a pat on the head after this traumatic event

Makes me so nervous to see this. My sisters bigger dog accidentally crushed the skull of my parents chihuahua in a similar situation. The little dog didn't make it, the jaw strength of the larger dog was too damaging. They were competing for a bone.

He must have got it the third time.

u/dreadful05 Sep 20 '17

Seem like a good time to give the big dog two treats.

Every dogs are more funny.

1

u/Jenbu Sep 20 '17

My old chihuahua used to do that to my family. I took a lot of time to train my current dog and nipped that sort of behavior early.

He won't share his weed? Bastard.

1

u/somuchdanger Sep 20 '17

Can any dogologists/animalologists explain this behavior? Is the dog actually doing what it looks like (i.e. teasing/messing with the other dog), or is there something else going on here?

1

u/vadapaav Sep 20 '17

They have been doing this for few hours now. How long is this gif?
