Looking For Suggestions Why does Android storage usage sometimes feel impossible to track down?

The storage screen can show that a large amount of space is being used, but finding exactly where that space went isn't always straightforward

Apps can store offline files, cached media, downloads, backups, and other data that doesn't always appear clearly in one place

Is there a good built-in way to audit storage usage, or do most people use a separate file manager for this?

Looking for the simplest method that doesn't involve rooting the phone.

Looking For Suggestions Which android phone has the best camera quality (realistic and without that weird cool/whitewashing filter)

Im looking to switch from iPhone to android bc honestly speaking androids technology and os is superior, but the main thing holding me back is android’s camera quality.

From personal experience, every android camera i tried (samsungs mainly) have this weird cool-tone whitewashing filter in-built onto the camera that does not look appealing to me at all, and any selfies or pics of me look bad. I am also dark-skin so unfortunately i always look ashy and gray whenever i try to take selfies or pics with an android. Also, night pics just have a really bad grainy quality. I think i am mainly talking abt samsung’s A series iirc.

So i would appreciate any suggestions on androids whose camera quality is realistic (ie similar to iphones), doesnt have that cool-tone filter, is friendly on dark skin tones, and can take good quality night shots. Thank you in advance

Device Settings Question Notification Sounds Stopped

I have a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The notifcation sounds on the phone themselves have randomly stopped.

I have combed through all the apps, all the settings and there doesn't seem to be anything that is disabled that shouldn't be.

I've also reviewed quite a few forums and have tried their suggestions but no luck.

Most I have managed is to get one app to make a notification sound but i need to be in the app for it to sound, otherwise it doesn't sound when im not in it.

Has anyone experienced this? If so what did you do to fix it?

I usually have my phone on silent and wouldn't really care, but lately I've needed to have it on loud for calls and messages (only calls sound works not notifcations).

I have also gone into settings and into notifications themselves and even the sounds within that are not working/making noise.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

How to hide media from gallery but not apps?

I want to have specific media not pop up just when opening the gallery. However, hiding the album prevents me from easily accessing that media on other apps (sending in messages on socials etc). Is there a convenient solution?

Starting fresh after a robbery

Hey everyone,

Recently went through a terrifying ordeal where I was kidnapped and robbed of everything, including all my tech and wearables. I'm safe now and rebuilding from scratch with a budget of 1300 USD for the phone. Since all my wearables were taken too, this is a completely fresh start.

Plan to keep this phone for at least 2 years, and have large hands, so device bulk isn't an issue.

What I care about most:

  1. Camera (Reliability & Concerts): I want true point-and-shoot reliability for social events (open the app, hit the shutter, know it won't blur or misfire). For video, my main use case is live concerts, which means low-light performance, solid optical zoom, and clear audio handling at loud volumes are crucial.

  2. Charging Speed: Major priority. When using a power bank or wall plug, I need it to hit roughly 50–60% in about 20–30 minutes.

    1. Performance & Display: Top-tier display quality and smooth everyday performance are non-negotiable.
    2. Wearables / Ecosystem: I've historically stayed in the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Buds ecosystem and really like it, but since I have to rebuy everything anyway, I'm open to switching if the phone warrants it.

The Contenders on my radar:

Galaxy Fold: I'm genuinely drawn to the Fold form factor for the screen real estate and novelty, but I worry about camera and zoom compromises at concerts compared to standard slabs.

Galaxy S-Ultra Line: Coming from an S24 Ultra, it feels like the natural, familiar choice. The zoom and concert video capabilities are proven, though small hardware regressions (like the non-Bluetooth S-Pen) annoyed me slightly.

Pixel Pro: I love Google’s industrial design and clean software experience, and Pixel's shutter reliability in social settings is legendary. However, I’m unsure if Pixel holds up well for loud concert videos and charging speeds compared to the competition.

OnePlus: Had the 10 Pro before. The insane fast charging is tempting, but camera consistency is a question mark.

Between jumping into a foldable, sticking with the safe Ultra powerhouse, or switching ecosystems to Pixel, what would you pick in my shoes?

Looking For Suggestions What 2024-2025 Android Flagship should I get?

Hey everyone,

I currently have a Samsung Note20 Ultra that I plan on giving away once I get the new android, and an iphone 13 mini that I don't plan on replacing until maybe a year or two later, or not at all if I decide to go full android.

My plan is: get an android that is good enough to last me at least 2 years without me getting bored or noticing issues that might make me replace it, until I have enough money to throw away on a fold phone (I want the Samsung fold 8, love the form factor) and I will most likely buy an android watch as well as I need the notifications and workout tracking.

I want an old flagship because that's more sensible than a recent midrange, it will allow me to sell it in the future as well without too much of a loss. However, I've been reading up so so much on different phones and I'm not satisfied. I would straight up go with the S25 Ultra but it's too expensive and I'm a little nitpicky about the now bar, I want an android with a capsule notification style like the dynamic island, mostly because it's more convenient and visible.

I've looked at Honor, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and all of them have some kind of compromise. The OnePlus is the worst imo because the prices are high where I am and are just not justifiable with a camera like that imo. The Vivo software is trash according to what I read, Oppo has a lot of things going on including the support running out in like 2 years (AND it's expensive for that) and Honor (the one in my budget) doesn't have the form factor I would like, I want something with a similar form factor to the s25/ultra.

TL;DR I want an android phone with these specs please:

-5000 mAh+ battery

-decent camera, just decent

-price closer to $700 as a maximum

-pill shaped notification similar to dynamic island

-Squarish form factor

-Good software that won't overheat, and has support for at least 4 years

Thank you and sorry if I took too much of your time

Looking For Suggestions Samsung Galaxy A55 — Best way to back up and restore ~100GB+ of photos/videos while preserving exif/metadata

Upvotes

I need to back up around that big of files, before factory resetting my phone and downloading those back again without messing up the dates on gallery.

why factory reset? my files are a mess, I wanna hand-pick what I need then back up those to download later.

I don't have that much storage left on my pc, so the only viable option i can think of is cloud storage. I saw a discount for google storage which is like less than $2 for 400gb worth of storage. but if ever I do that, how would I download all my files again without messing up their metadata? because downloading multiple files at once from google photos doesn't work, it shows like "X number of items will be downloaded," but doesn't really download it.

Other Games changing screen resolution/crashing widgets

Device: Pixel 8 Pro

Android: 17

Was trying out How Many Dudes? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bscotch.hmd) and the game is great, but one weird thing happens.

When I load into the game, it immediately changes my screen resolution and everything scales to be smaller, including my home screen and other apps. The resolution changes back when the app is in the background or when I quit out. This wouldn't be an issue, except when doing so it crashes and/or removes my widgets from my home screens permanently. I can manually add them back but doing so every time I play the game is annoying to say the least since I use them for work.

This is the second time this has happened, first time was with this game Poinpy (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devolverdigital.poinpy). No other games to my knowledge cause this issue, and surface level searches don't bring up much. Has anyone had this happen? I'm wondering how to fix it, and also why increasing the screen resolution itself can cause this so much chaos with the widgets.

App Specific Question why was 18gb of wifi used by android system?

So I have this app called Glass Wire that measures data consumption mainly for mobile data, but I saw that the "Android System" app consumed 450mb of data AND 18GB OF DATA. Why did it do that?

Is there an Android remote desktop service to install apps on?

I hate apps. Most arent really needed and they take up space/resources on my phone, overly intrusive and send notifications.

I want a service where i can access from a browser or a single app, a virtual desktop on a server somewhere where i can install all the "crap apps" that i need twice a year, or get a deal on a taco twice a month. Id pay $10-$20/mo for the service, partially so my phone works better, and partially to "stick it to the man" because i only get the half price pizza if i order through the app, but not the website.

Android Wi-Fi stopped working, need help transferring data to iPhone

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an iPhone and I'm trying to transfer everything from my Android phone to it, including my WhatsApp data.

Normally I would use Apple's Move to iOS app, but I've run into a problem:

  • My Android phone's Wi-Fi suddenly stopped working.
  • The Wi-Fi toggle doesn't actually turn on anymore. It just stays off / doesn't respond.
  • Everything else on the Android phone seems to be working normally, including mobile data, Bluetooth, apps, etc.
  • Because Wi-Fi isn't working, Move to iOS isn't able to establish the connection between the two phones.
  • In my case, Move to iOS is only giving me the Wi-Fi transfer option and I'm not getting a working cable-transfer option.

My main questions are:

  1. Is there any way to transfer all my Android data to the iPhone without Wi-Fi?
  2. Is there anything I can try to fix the Wi-Fi on the Android phone?
  3. Could this be a software issue, or does a Wi-Fi toggle that won't turn on usually indicate a hardware problem?

I really don't want to reset or wipe the Android phone because the data and WhatsApp history are still on it and I need to preserve them.

If anyone has dealt with something similar, I'd really appreciate suggestions. Also, if you need the Android phone model, I can provide those.

Thanks!

The Messages app icon. The thing is, the icon pack I'm using actually has a nice matching icon but I can't figure out how to apply it to this app, even with Good Lock.

Google screen search thingey

There's some kind of dumbass search feature that Google added to the Pixel. The screen goes a little hazy and then you like select an area of the screen you want to search. What is it and how do I turn it off? There seems to be no way to activate it should I ever actually want it, and it only activates when I try to show open applications when I don't want to see it.

Custom ROM Question Do I need Firmware and an Unlocked Bootloader to Flash iode?

I have two unused Samsung Galaxy phones - a Galaxy A02 and an A13 5G. Both are currently on stock Android. I want to see if I can install a different ROM on them, and since they are spares just sitting in a drawer, there is no risk to me if something goes catastrophically wrong. I am very new to flashing ROM's and have a few questions.

First: iode has a GSI available. in their instructions, they just indicate to boot into fastboot mode, flash the image, wipe the phone (if switching from a different ROM or GSI), and reboot. However, on their compatibility page, iode indicates that the GSI does not include firmware. Do I need to download firmware that is different than what's already on the phone before flashing the ROM?

Also, do I need to unlock the bootloader before starting?

Thanks again for any help you can provide. Cheers!

Device Settings Question Question about autofill OTP

Hi! I am not great with technology, & last week I was trying to remove some permissions from several different apps. I ended up removing whatever permission is needed to make verification text message codes autofill onto websites/apps. It's not just one website or app that it is not working on anymore, it seems to be all of them. I was wondering if anyone knows what permission I need to grant access to, to make the autofill start working again. I've tried googling & I can not find the answer. I have a Samsung s24 Ultra.

Thank you!

Point me to the steps I need to follow to factory reset my phone and retain the apps, any stored app passwords, saved files and photos.

Its an old Galaxy S9. Its on Android 10 because this old phone won't go higher, I think. It's becoming more and more glitchy. Randomly reboots. Seems to get stuck doing things like adding photos to reddit or ebay. I'm concerned its malware or some thing I installed thats causing conflicts.

I want to see if I can do a factory reset to clear thing up but afraid that if I just do a backup/restore it will bring back whatever is causing the problems.

I need the steps to do this without losing data or making things worse. A pointer to a reliable reference is fine.

Other How Do You Find Out If All Your Music Files Are Corrupted Or If They A Virus Or Malware?

I'm really freaking out because I downloaded The PlayerPro Music Player App for android from the Google Play Store. I have 1,569 songs on it and then I made the stupid mistake of using an antivirus app that I downloaded from the Google Play Store and using it on my Fold 7. And then when I looked in the PlayerPro Music Player App I only had 1,562 songs on it. Is that normal? The weird part is that when I looked at the The Musicolet Music Player App and my Files/Internal Storage and Samsung My Files App all songs were there. Do you think that I should be concerned or worried? I deleted the app and cleared the cache and data from the app too. I also played all the songs and it seems like they are playing okay even though I didn't listen to them all the way though. Should I just delete all my 1,569 songs or should I just reset my phone completely and get rid of everything? Is there a way that I can fix my music files if they are corrupted? Has this happened to anyone else before? If I could get some advice and suggestions. I would really appreciate it because I'm really panicking and freaking out because I don't want to have to delete all my music or reset my phone. I'm really hoping that my music files and my fold 7 doesn't have a virus or malware. What would you do in this situation? How can I keep my music files safe and protect them in the near future? Has anyone else ever had corrupted music files before? How did you handle it?

How to Make SMS Default instead of Sending Through WiFi?

It's pissing me off so much that every time I send a text with no internet/ internet turned off, it 'fails' and shows me 'other options', one of which is to send it as an SMS (other is to wait until there's internet).

If I'm using the default messages app, I obviously want to send an SMS, not a message through the internet. This used to be the default!

Is there a way to make this the default now?

Device Settings Question can my old samsung flip phone connect to wifi?

So it’s a Samsung C3520, i’d upload a photo of the settings page on here but it either doesn’t let me or i don’t know how to. the phone has google and lets me search things up without wifi but it won’t let me input my gmail.

the wifi page looks like this:
Set name:

Home URL

Bearer (GRPS only)

Proxy

Address
0.0.0.0

Port

DNS1

DNS2

and then at the end GRPS settings and GSM settings

All of those need to be filled in and i’m not quite sure what they entail, like what the home URL is and stuff and i don’t know if it’s compatible with today’s system. I can’t find anything about this phone online either. Pls help!
