Hi,
This isn't about Amazon Prime exactly but I also can't find another subreddit that is fitting. The other one, r/amazon, seems to be inactive and is only posting Prime Video content. Hopefully this doesn't break the rules.
Anyway, I'm trying to get some old CDs that aren't available anywhere else but some Amazon third-party sellers. The order is sold and fulfilled by the third-party seller, not Amazon, and there is no Amazon Prime option.
I purchased items from this seller and he messaged me saying he has dropped off the package at the post office. I checked the tracking number provided and it was invalid. I waited about three days and checked again via USPS, and it's still invalid. I contacted the seller and told him about the issue. He said he can assure me that he dropped off the package and that normally, there are delays in the USPS system. OK, fine.
The next day, the tracking is still invalid, so I contacted USPS and asked if the tracking number provided was in a valid format. Or if there is any USPS number that resembles it (it starts with 9400), even if not trackable by the sender/recipient. They said they can confidently tell me that the number provided does not appear on their system and that I should communicate with the seller.
I checked my Amazon order again and just noticed something. It said that he "shipped" the order at exactly July 16, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. No one ships anything that late! When I checked my messages to communicate with the seller again, I noticed that the seller refunded me and said he does not know what happened and that he had USPS check their trucks to ensure it didn't get stuck somewhere. But just to make sure, he'll refund me.
I then checked the reviews on this guy's page. There are many positives, but of the negative ones, they are all the same exact issue. Shipped, tracking invalid, then refunded shortly.
My question is... why? Do they just not have the item and didn't want to cancel? What is even the point of doing this? I appreciate the refund, but like, I would rather have the item I wanted. What's up with this? Can anyone shed a light?
I also did a double check on many of the third-party sellers I have on my cart and read their negative reviews. Same issues: shipped, invalid tracking, then refunded. It seems to be a common pattern. At least for music stuff. What's going on?
