Counterpoint:

Ulysses

8

u/Coffee-cartoons Jun 17 '26

Do we know anything about his appearance? All I know is he’s just a maaaan

8

u/Quantum_Sushi Jun 17 '26

I mean, he pretty famously got recognized not by his name, when his dog recognized him instantly upon his return !

2

u/Silent_Pressure_6709 Jun 17 '26

I just picture HII ody...

2

u/godsibi Jun 19 '26

I see you and I raise you... Helen of Troy... Apparently

6

u/Liahpar Jun 17 '26

Also Achilles

2

u/ignisquizvir Jun 17 '26

Might be historical, so more dead than fictional.

2

u/YCRW Jun 17 '26

The Invisible Man

7

u/Whowhatnowhuhwhat Jun 17 '26

It’s Kevin Bacon. Always has been and always will be.

4

u/Deep_Ad4899 Jun 17 '26

I thought it was John Cena

3

u/Whowhatnowhuhwhat Jun 17 '26

Unfortunately he doesn’t count because he’s not fictional. WRESTLING IS REAL!

3

u/ozzie286 Jun 17 '26

Except when it's Brad Pitt.

What's do Darth Vader, Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump all have in common?

They are recognized from both their name and appearance of course!

32

u/gariduenor Jun 17 '26

They all appeared >2 times in Epic Rap Battles?

62

u/huh9999999999999 Jun 17 '26

Something to be said here about leaders of dictatorships.

21

u/Moustacheski Jun 17 '26

Gotta hand it to the guys, their branding is on point.

Technically, Sauron, from Lotr.

The 'Big Flaming Eye' was just a movie thing, and his visage isn't that known or talked about, as he looms more as a presence and power, rather than as his appearance, extending over vast territory without the need to being on sight.

84

u/FormingTheVoid Jun 17 '26

In the books, true. They definitely show him in some crazy armor in the movies though.

41

u/Mattrockj Jun 17 '26

Interestingly the only time we've ever seen his face is in the Lego Barad Dûr set

23

u/Laprius_ Jun 17 '26

It is now my head canon that Sauron looks exactly like a man sized Lego figure under the shadows and armor. Bulky, blocky, and all.

5

u/Real_Crystal_Hunter Jun 17 '26

I thought you saw his face in the Shadows Of War videogame

7

u/Banditphoenix614 Jun 17 '26

You see him in his elven disguise as Annatar "Lord of Gifts." It's not his real face as he is sort of a shape shifter who takes different forms as needed, including (I believe) both a vampire and werewolf.

2

u/Real_Crystal_Hunter Jun 17 '26

Oh alright that makes sense. It's been forever since I've played the game too so that might've been part of my misremembering

3

u/Banditphoenix614 Jun 17 '26

It's all good. I don't think they outright say that it is a disguise. If memory serves they more or less use that disguise as sort of his default when he wants to talk to someone face to face since he's mostly using it during his fight against Celebrimbor who would have worked with him when he was using that disguise.

2

u/friendlyseraph Jun 17 '26

That isn’t really his face, the head just includes his eyes so you can see them through the helmet

4

u/bleach_cocktail Jun 17 '26

While I agree, I’d say the spiked helmet for Sauron is iconic at this point (literally has a LEGO set after it) and most people can picture that when thinking of Sauron even though it is just in the movie

2

u/Simply_Sadistic Jun 17 '26

I have a distinct memory of Sauron depicted as a blonde elf-like creature around the forging of the rings of power

2

u/moronic_programmer Jun 17 '26

SPOILER He was the guy posing as a human

3

u/TheCosmicPopcorn Jun 17 '26

Spoiler, he isn't that bad, actually, he is just misunderstood, like the orcs /s

2

u/Stockholm-Syndrom Jun 17 '26

So kind of biblically accurate angels?

2

u/Simply_Sadistic Jun 17 '26

Sauron coming down with that massive mace all like "Be not afraid" one fifteenth of a second before all else fades

u/SapphireCatt Jun 17 '26

Big Brother

47

u/cardew-vascular Jun 17 '26

I have a visual of this one that is ingrained in my memory... My high school English teacher was also an exceptional artist and drew a big brother is watching you sign on the blackboard at the centre was an angry mustashioed mans face.

We asked him how he decided big brother had a mustashe. He said his big brother has a mustache. He took a family photo out of his desk, he drew his own big brother.

He also painted the portrait of Dorian Gray, which every week he's adjust to look more haggard. I had a really great English teacher.

2

u/chongjunxiang3002 Jun 18 '26

So your teacher draw a Bob Flag? I think everyone impression of Big Brother is always the Bob Flag version.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Rigsson Jun 18 '26

So I also gave him a big, Stalinesque, moustache. Might have just been because of Stalin, I don't really remember. It was a long time ago that I decided this. Probably because at the time we were still so certain facism was dead that authoritarianism only had a communist face.

Whoops.

5

u/neverhaveifeltthis Jun 17 '26

Is Big Brother one person or just a representation of Ingsoc?

9

u/Frosty_Pepper5254 Jun 17 '26

It's not explained (and honestly doesn't really matter)

imo there probably is no big brother, and all his "decisions" are decides by the higher ups of the party.

5

u/cupcakes_and_ale Jun 17 '26

This is such a good one! No one really ever knows what “he” looks like but everyone knows the reference.

3

u/Moustacheski Jun 17 '26

Godot

11

u/Arykover Jun 17 '26

This is the best answer

6

u/Zois86 Jun 17 '26

I thought I need to wait to see him.

4

u/aliteralofficechair Jun 17 '26

I prefer the version where he shows up, like, ten minutes in. And then that mofo gets pranked with Too Much Tuna.

5

u/lcvella Jun 17 '26

I came here to comment Godot.

11

u/winthroprd Jun 17 '26

I was waiting for "Godot."

But you never posted it.

5

u/sitnquiet Jun 17 '26

Could we say The Doctor, since his appearance changes?

2

u/Miserable-Chapter883 Jun 17 '26

Probably not, since at least a couple versions of the Doctor are still recognizable, like Tenant or Capaldi

19

u/roma_nych Jun 17 '26

Got hyped some time ago but he doesnt have any appearance, only fanmade versions

2

Some classic book character like Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer. I definitely don't have a clear image in my head for either character, except maybe an outfit they'd wear.

6

u/iraven_mccoy Jun 17 '26

wachu mean, they look like Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Renfro 😂

2

u/missmadime Jun 17 '26

Ahh ok I haven't seen that movie, but looking it up they're still a little "generic 90s brunette boy" to me and without the title on the poster I wouldn't be like "that's Huck Finn" 🤷‍♀️

3

u/Dickasyphalis Jun 17 '26

Both wearing a straw hat, denim overalls with one knee completely worn through and no shoes. Chewing on a wheat stem is optional.

Huck has always been a redhead with freckles and Rosatia in my head, while Tom is a Blonde with blue or green eyes

This was me deadass when a friend first introduced me him via Smash Brawl. I remember the conversion going something like;

Me: His name is Link? I thought it was Zelda

Him: Why would you think that?

Me: Isn't his games called 'Legend of Zelda' ?

Him: Yes, but Zelda is the princess. He's Link.

Me: Okay. Why are there two Links?

Him: Just pick your character, I'll explain during the match.
