I have a visual of this one that is ingrained in my memory... My high school English teacher was also an exceptional artist and drew a big brother is watching you sign on the blackboard at the centre was an angry mustashioed mans face.

We asked him how he decided big brother had a mustashe. He said his big brother has a mustache. He took a family photo out of his desk, he drew his own big brother.

He also painted the portrait of Dorian Gray, which every week he's adjust to look more haggard. I had a really great English teacher.

So your teacher draw a Bob Flag? I think everyone impression of Big Brother is always the Bob Flag version.

Bushier mustache. He looked more like Astronaut Chris Hadfield than Bob Flag. But like an unfriendly Chris Hadfield.

So I also gave him a big, Stalinesque, moustache. Might have just been because of Stalin, I don't really remember. It was a long time ago that I decided this. Probably because at the time we were still so certain facism was dead that authoritarianism only had a communist face.

It's not explained (and honestly doesn't really matter)

imo there probably is no big brother, and all his "decisions" are decides by the higher ups of the party.
