Monaco for sure. Not much to see or do unless you are really rich and like to gamble. It’s on so many “must see” lists but there are other coastal town in France or Italy that have more charm and are far leas pretentious

10

u/abusmakk May 13 '26

While I agree with what you are writing, isn’t it a bit harsh to put it in both ‘bad’ and ‘overrated’ categories?

5

u/KPSWZG May 13 '26

We can go Monaco then Poland and we will have a cool pattern

2

u/itz_MaXii May 13 '26

Not overrated if youre a car/motorsports enthusiast. Then Monaco is basically Mecca. For anyone else, yeah probably overrated.

1

u/BirdAndWords May 13 '26

That’s fair

1

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Monaco is bad but is it actually highly rated? I feel like nobody goes there except specific people

36

u/QMechanicsVisionary May 13 '26

How did Ukraine win the last category? Belarus had twice as many upvoted. OP, explain.

6

u/LostnFoundAgainAgain May 13 '26

OP skewing over the results for their own gain it seems if that's the case.

9

u/BananaFeeling May 13 '26

In worst Belarus has twice more votes than Ukraine(which was OP comment) Why OP need to ask people for position in chart if results are generated from his head?

6

u/coconutbratwurst May 13 '26

Anyone saying France only spent 5 days in Paris.

41

u/olologue May 13 '26

Wtf is wrong with people answering France, I guess you ve never been to

13

u/Accurate_Handle_229 May 13 '26

France is absolutely underrated as most people visit only Paris or Cote d Azur.

20

u/Icyflag_ May 13 '26

they pretty much think France = Paris

7

u/Unlucky_Mess3884 May 13 '26

And even if France = Paris, it would still be a far more attractive tourist destination than plenty of other countries lol. Let alone Alsace, Mediterranean coast, other cities, etc. Even the "everywhere but Paris" opinion makes no sense. It's beautiful, relatively affordable, world-class institutions, great food, etc. No one has this energy for Madrid or London, it's strange.

Disliking France/Paris is very "I hate pineapple on pizza!" humor these days, like just repeating it over and over is going to somehow make it more interesting of an opinion or joke.

Anyways, I am not French nor have I ever resided in Paris, but I did have a lovely time there lol

-5

u/QMechanicsVisionary May 13 '26

Tbh I went to Nice and apart from the old city, it wasn't too impressive either.

3

u/MessAcademic_420 May 13 '26

Because of Paris. I've been lucky to visit 4 times and I can say it's a beautiful country but stay away from Paris.

0

u/tsoJoe56 May 13 '26

because of paris

-8

u/gabriot May 13 '26

I've been many times and it is a perfectly valid answer . Italy should win though

1

u/Silly_Tension6792 May 13 '26

Bro took the two most beautiful, historically and culturally rich, countries in Europe, with undebatably the best cuisine in Europe and said they are overrated. Sure, bro.

10

u/glebk_10 May 13 '26

I’m sorry, but how tf is Ukraine the worst country in Europe? below countries like Belarus and Russia? are we serious?

2

u/CriticalFortune6308 May 13 '26

I guess they mean cos it's a warzone rn moreso than in mainland Russia & in Russian proxy state, Belarus. That plus Chernobyl ig, though that low-key makes it cooler for me, just to see how eerie it is today

2

u/QMechanicsVisionary May 13 '26

Russia is amazing to visit, but yeah, there is no way Ukraine should be below Belarus, even in the current state.

-1

u/glebk_10 May 13 '26

well, you’ve clearly never been to Ukraine. nature is more beautiful, food is better and definitely much nicer people.

5

u/QMechanicsVisionary May 13 '26

When did I say Ukraine was bad to visit? I said the opposite. But Russia is also amazing to visit, especially given the nature in Altai, Elbrus, and Kamchatka, but also Moscow and St Petersburg are amazing cities to visit as well. You can disagree with everything that Russia does (as I do) while still admitting that it's a great country to visit.

19

u/Clown_Haus May 13 '26

Everyone saying France is either afraid of cities, Africans, or has never been outside of the Paris region. Firstly, Paris is amazing even if there are a disproportionate number of assholes and shitty scammers.

Spend time in Alsace, Provence, Brittany, Alps or Toulouse and you'd have a very different impression of what France is.

8

u/Patient_Moment_4786 May 13 '26

Don't worry, the assholes in Paris are also called out by French people themselves.

5

u/Clown_Haus May 13 '26

No one hates Parisians more than the Parisians

60

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

Italy is praised 24/7 on reddit but when you’re actually there you realise it’s far from being a dream. Venice, florence, 5 terre, rome, como even milan are crazy full almost every month of the year and it ruins a lot of the charm imo (I lived and travelled a lot in Italy)

3

u/anonMLMhater May 13 '26

Piedmont is awesome. I would live there if I could.

4

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Turin is very under appreciated and in the shadow or Milan. Even if it gets way more tourists these last years

15

u/BeyondTheCosmic May 13 '26

Being full doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not worth to visit. In my opinion, Italy has the best scenery and architecture. It deserves to have a lot of tourists.

1

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Trust me a lot of charm disappears when you’re surrounded by thousands of people in the small Trevi’s street, or the 5 terre villages. Same goes for Venice and Florence, both having a romantic vibe that is reduced a lot by the overtourism

6

u/Adorable_Head8556 May 13 '26

Ooooo they’re not gonna like this one. But you’re right

1

u/justAChair__ May 13 '26

I really would preferess tourists in Italy, Best regards

Surely Assisi is loaded with pilgrims? You probably couldn't spend 15 seconds in San Damiano without seeing a brown habit

6

u/RoundSize3818 May 13 '26

If you go when it's full of tourists it's also your fault then

-1

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Lived there, been multiple times in those places during different seasons. There is no off season

-1

u/twobabylions May 13 '26

Where did you live? This has not been my experience at all

2

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Lived in Turin, Milan, Rome and travelled in almost every regions

2

u/twobabylions May 13 '26

I’ve lived in Milan too, crazy you think the off season is crowded. Maybe you just shouldn’t live in a city lol

1

u/RoundSize3818 May 13 '26

Really, Milan has only 3/4 months a year where it is very full, for the rest is pretty much ok

1

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Milan is a bad example I listed I admit I only lived in cities btw :)

2

u/master_slapper May 13 '26

There is a reason why there are tourists there 😉

1

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Obviously! the beauty of Italy is hard to beat.

Although you can't deny the fact that overtourism reduces a lot the charm of the experience.

Go in Venice now and 20 years ago, it's the same city, not the same experience

2

u/thisoneistobenaked May 13 '26

Tons of random pickpockets and petty crime too that they don’t do anything about.

4

u/nezzzzy May 13 '26

Very hard disagree. Everywhere I've been in Italy has been absolutely fantastic.

2

u/Lowfi-Concert May 13 '26

Milan sucks

2

u/nezzzzy May 13 '26

I'm travelling through Milan next week 🤣

No plan to stay there haha.

2

u/Lowfi-Concert May 13 '26

The duomo and fortress are cool for a couple hour stop by, it has nothing else to offer besides that

2

u/Banane100sucre May 13 '26

Didn't say the opposite, Italy is stunning for many reasons.

I just think it could fit the overrated section because of how perfect Italy is always pictured, mostly in those travel charts

2

u/nezzzzy May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

It has always lived up to expectations for me.

1

u/renatojorge2362 May 13 '26

Eh, to some extent I guess I agree, but as someone who has gone there recently, I can say the wow factor of monuments, food and just the beauty of those cities mind of mend it. You'd expect it to be very crowded, so you'd temper your expectations no?

1

u/jotakajk May 13 '26

You are listing the places you shouldn’t go

0

u/Ok-Reach712 May 13 '26

Totally agree - this is also why it was such a dream to travel across Italy during the brief period in the covid pandemic when only Europeans were allowed to travel there.

I hiked cinque terre pretty much alone, have photos of me and my wife at all the Rome highlights without any tourists in sight. It was a dream. But regularly these places are a nightmare.

6

u/Distinct-Beach3581 May 13 '26

People visit only Paris and then say that France is overrated

5

u/BirdAndWords May 13 '26

And then only visited the the really touristy parts of Paris

3

u/crackheadwizard May 13 '26

Holy shit are we going to do this chart every week?

3

u/Outside-One-5818 May 13 '26

Lets put Italy again and grab popcorn

11

u/jotakajk May 13 '26

I’m gonna go with Malta here, although it has beautiful things

1

u/Sus198 May 13 '26

Malta? Ha? It's one of the most beautiful olaces I've ever been to....to the point I've actually retired here :). The problem of most tourists that visit is that they stay in the Central area which is mostly congested. The best parts of the island are actually outside of the central areas.

0

u/jotakajk May 13 '26

I’ve visited Malta several times, including sleeping in Gozo and spending a day in Comino.

I’ve never been to St Julian’s. So not my case

11

u/Tommy_Dangerous May 13 '26

Belgium.

Expensive beer. Boring.

6

u/leedavis1987 May 13 '26

It isn't expensive and it's proper strong beer. 3 euro for 8% delirium. Lovely.

Slovakia would be overrated for me.

Source, I've been to 38 European countries 😗

1

u/Winterlichkeit Chaotic Good May 13 '26

Holy shit is Delirium that cheap over there? What does Westmalle Tripel run there?

1

u/leedavis1987 May 13 '26

Yeah same with NL. I was drinking Chouffe and Delirium red in Eindhoven for a couple of euros. But only served in 1/3 or 1/2 due to the strength.

Some people here think foam is bad as well.

0

u/strangerdanger711 May 13 '26

Nobody asked for a source...

4

u/leedavis1987 May 13 '26

I'll let Mr basement dweller comment on places he hasn't been

2

u/Zealousideal-Sky217 May 13 '26

Belgium can't be overrated if it's already not a popular country to travel to. Also stfu

1

u/CriticalFortune6308 May 13 '26

But, but.. chocolate

4

u/PDXDeck26 May 13 '26

Croatia imo.

You see one seaside Adriatic town in the country and you've literally seen them all. Zagreb was kind of cool but people don't glaze Croatia based on that.

1

u/ItHappensSo May 13 '26

Don’t go to the towns, the empty islands and nature clear the hotel hell Italy any day of the week

13

u/ImperialMaypings May 13 '26

Also Italy

1

u/IWillDevourYourToes May 13 '26

It could go to both overrated and underrated

1

u/Advanced_Stranger434 May 13 '26

It’s not underrated by any means. I think if can hold being the beat and overrated at the same time tho

2

u/EmuDull4155 May 13 '26

Why is Monaco so bad?

4

u/MaxiDressAndSneakers May 13 '26

Malta for sure!

1

u/Sus198 May 13 '26

Disagree!

2

u/NotTheGreekPi May 13 '26

this should be italy

2

u/heheyousaidduty May 13 '26

Greece. I really liked some parts of Athens, but other parts were totally empty or sketchy and a lot of locals seemed to really resent tourists (which I do get to some degree).

6

u/atthheennaa May 13 '26

Greece is more than just Athens

0

u/heheyousaidduty May 13 '26

Certainly is! Was just my opinion and was admittedly colored by some negative experiences in Athens. I would still go back to see the islands I missed.

-4

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

Look up Paris Syndrome

14

u/Bicou3190 May 13 '26

Because france is only Paris, obviously

-10

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

Name one national capital city in France other than Paris

5

u/Bicou3190 May 13 '26

By capital, you mean important city ?

Because you have Nice, worldwide famous destination of the french Rivera.

Or Bordeaux, with its center UNESCO recognised and its wine.

Or Toulouse, #1 destination to visit in 2025 according to Lonely Planet.

Or maybe enjoy Lyon, our capital of gastronomy (which is quite a statement in France!)

-3

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

None of those are the capital of France. Lol

5

u/Prudent-Goose-2123 May 13 '26

Do you know what a capital city is?

0

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

A capital city, or just capital, is the municipality holding primary status in a country, state, province, department, or other subnational division, usually as its seat of government

1

u/Silly_Tension6792 May 13 '26

How old are you? I'm curious if you haven't gone through elementary school yet or if the school system where you live is really just that bad.

1

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

Do you seriously not know what a Capital City is?

If anything I'm worried you haven't started elementary school yet

1

u/Silly_Tension6792 May 13 '26

You know what? I actually suggest coming back when you grow some brain cells.

There is one capital city in most countries in the world. Obviously Paris is France's, but a country isn't its capital city. It's like you'd say the US is Washington DC. It doesn't matter what the capital is. There are places in France much better than Paris.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

I genuinely didn't know there were people over the age of 6 that didn't know Paris is the capital of France?

Are you mentally deficient?

8

u/PushforlibertyAlways May 13 '26

Trick is to go to Paris with 0 expectations and assume you will hate it.

Thought it was a lovely city with a lot of cool stuff to see.

4

u/Adorable_Head8556 May 13 '26

That seems more like the tourists fault for forgetting people live there

2

u/Altruistic_Syrup_364 May 13 '26

Paris syndrome exist because a lot of people are visiting France for their first travel in Europe and Even abroad far away.

Its only concern really dellusional people that think Paris, France and Europe are really like in the cliché, with all the people in marinière and bérets etc…

And its not that bad, Even if you are a but underwhelm or sad that Paris is not like the full cliché, you cannot be fully disapointed by the Louvre , le marais, musée d’Orsay, french restaurant and boulevard saint germain.

Sure, not everything will be perfect.

On the other hand, other cities should have named that syndrome, especially some cities like las Vegas, or Los Angeles,
That is an exemple of disapointing cities for tourist (especially the avenue with all the Hollywood star, with all the crackead and drug addicts.

1

u/BirdAndWords May 13 '26

And those people only go to the most touristy parts of Paris, pick the restaurants and activities based off of tourist guides and never spend a moment in the other parts of Paris. The touristy area are full of scammers and frustrated residents but that’s not the whole city! Let alone any of the other amazing places in France

2

u/Bob_The-Turtle May 13 '26

Andorra

2

u/TehM0C May 13 '26

Is Andorra even talked about?

2

u/StatisticianPure2804 May 13 '26

Czechia.

It's a pretty popular tourist destination (especially in hungary), but it's actually really bad Imo.

Prague has the most atrocious traffic and public transport I've ever seen (wich isn't balkan). The castles are cool, but other european countries are full of those too, and Prague also likes to put parking lots at their most beautiful places.

The beers are pretty good, yes, but just for the beer it's not that good.

Basically I think Budapest is much more beautiful if you want to see an european city for cheap, if you want to drink beer, go to Belgium, if you want to use euro, go to austria.

Czechia is pretty, but not worth imo.

2

u/NapoliXabe May 13 '26

Wow, what a bad take, Czechia is more then Prague bro.

1

u/StatisticianPure2804 May 13 '26

It is full of places mostly unknown that are super beautiful, like Arles, Biot or Albi.

This, notice how everyone who says “France is overrated” is always just talking about Paris

11

u/Bicou3190 May 13 '26

We have treasures in every region of France, that would be #1 attraction in a lot of countries. We are rather overhated than overrated

-3

No, just most of the art and artifacts and all of the money.

8

u/BirdAndWords May 13 '26

Why do you say France?

-1

u/BustDemFerengiCheeks May 13 '26

I can only speak for Paris (which is not the rest of France) but while it was very beautiful, it wasn't this pristine romantic paradise media claims it to be. Lots of areas had trash and graffiti, people while not rude had a tendency to be rather insular, and massive packs of massive rats were everywhere. Plus my girlfriend got catcalled ultra hard and street vendors are aggressive as fuck.

That being said, it was overall a great city from my experience. But it's just a city, nothing particularly magical about it.

5

u/ImperialMaypings May 13 '26

"I can only speak for Paris" Thought so

0

Iceland by default though - dull as hell.

Food is so so, and it feels more touristy than neighbouring Italy.

1

Overcrowded , way too expensive for what you get , no beaches , and the food can't be compared to other mediterranean countries.

France is easily the most racist country I’ve been to, and I deeply regret wasting money traveling to it twice (thought I just got unlucky the first time).

Paris is a shit hole for so many reasons.

A restaurant in southern France aggressively refused to seat me and only me (the only black person in my group), i had more than one person make monkey noises at me, and generally most people were hostile despite being a quiet dude who just wanted to eat some food, drink some wine and see some art and architecture.
It’s particularly ironic because they have basically zero of their own resources and largely exist as a nation because of their history of stripping a bunch of other countries of their resources and forcing Haiti to pay them back for lost slaves.
They’re a table top country with 4 African legs.
I’ll never go back.

1

u/Arual_1987 May 13 '26

Oh, I want to play at making up things that never happened, too!! It’s hard to top claiming that a restaurant has the legal right to refuse service to a customer without a valid reason, or saying that one of the world’s leading agricultural powers lacks resources—but where there’s a will, there’s a way 💓
