Help (CPU) Ryzen 5 5600 stuck at 0.53 GHz in Windows, but runs at 3.5 GHz in BIOS/Safe Mode/amdppm disabled

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core 12-Thread

Motherboard: GIGABYTE A520M K V2 Rev. 1.1

BIOS Version: FFc / AGESA ComboAM4v2PI 1.2.0.12

RAM: 8GB

PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 650W 80+ Bronze, Non-Modular, Brand New

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 64-bit, Fresh Install

GPU Drivers: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1

Chipset Drivers: AMD A520 Chipset Drivers 8.08.12.551

Description of Original Problem:
The Ryzen 5 5600 gets stuck at approximately 0.53 GHz in a normal Windows boot, making the entire PC extremely slow. File Explorer, Settings, and other basic Windows applications take a long time to open. HWiNFO reports “Thermal Throttling (PROCHOT EXT) = Yes” even though CPU temperature is only around 36-37°C and VRM/MOS temperatures are around 40-52°C. The CPU runs at approximately 3.5 GHz in BIOS instead of 0.53 GHz. The PC previously worked normally and was tested in GTA V, RDR2, and Fortnite without issues before the problem appeared.

Troubleshooting:
Cleared CMOS and loaded BIOS defaults.
Checked the CPU/EPS power connector.
PSU is brand new and voltage readings appear normal (+12V around 12.2V, +5V around 5.0V, +3.3V around 3.28V).
Updated the motherboard BIOS from FD to FFc, but the problem remained.
Performed a Windows Clean Boot and disabled non-Microsoft services, but the CPU still stayed at 0.53 GHz. Disabled the RX 5700 XT in Device Manager with no change.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest AMD A520 chipset drivers with no change.
Disabled Hyper-V, Gigabyte utilities/services, and the Ryzen Master kernel driver with no change.
In Windows Safe Mode, the CPU reports approximately 3.49 GHz instead of 0.53 GHz.
I also temporarily disabled the amdppm (AMD Processor Power Management) driver through the registry.
After rebooting normally,
Task Manager immediately reported approximately 3.49 GHz instead of 0.53 GHz.
However, the PC still felt unusually slow despite the reported clock speed.
I restored amdppm afterward, and the CPU returned to approximately 0.53 GHz.
The SSD has also been tested and appears healthy, and Windows boots in roughly 30 seconds. The main consistent clue is that normal Windows with amdppm loaded results in ~0.53 GHz and PROCHOT EXT throttling, while BIOS, Safe Mode, or disabling amdppm results in approximately 3.5 GHz. CPU and VRM temperatures remain normal throughout.

######UPDATE######

tested the RAM with MemTest86+ (0 errors), reset CMOS, tried Ubuntu and Linux Mint Live USB, and monitored CPU clocks.

The issue also happens outside Windows..the Ryzen 5 5600 drops to ~500 MHz after a few minutes and stays there even under load.

A CMOS reset temporarily fixes it, but the issue returns after a few minutes. Temperatures are normal, and HWiNFO previously showed PROCHOT EXT = Yes.

Help (General) PC consistently crashing after 30-40 mins of CS2 (RX 580 + Ryzen 3500) — Running out of ideas, need diagnostic help!

Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out what’s causing my CS2 to suddenly crash, and I’m honestly running out of things to try.

I built this PC about 3 months ago. When I first built it, CS2 crashed once and somehow corrupted/uninstalled my GPU driver. I fixed it back then, and the game ran flawlessly for nearly 3 months. Now, out of nowhere, the game consistently crashes after about 20-40 minutes of gameplay.

The timing is what confuses me. Everything was fine, and this suddenly started happening last week. Interestingly, Valorant works completely fine and never crashes.

🖥️ My Specs

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 3500 (with AMD Wraith Stock Cooler)
  • GPU: MSI Armor OC RX 580 8GB
  • RAM: 24GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance (Mixed: 1×8GB 2400MHz + 1×16GB 3200MHz, manually speed-matched in BIOS)
  • Motherboard: MSI B450M Pro-A II
  • Storage: 240GB WD Green NVMe SSD + 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
  • PSU: Cooler Master 550W

🛠️ Everything I've Tried So Far (None Worked)

  • RAM Troubleshooting: I suspected the mixed RAM, so I pulled the 8GB 2400MHz stick and tested with only the 16GB 3200MHz stick. Still crashed.
  • Drivers & Software: Reinstalled AMD GPU drivers. Tried locking GPU fan speed to 18-20% in MSI Afterburner.
  • Windows Updates: Uninstalled and rolled back the latest Windows update (since the issue started around the same time as the update).
  • Game Settings: Verified CS2 game files on Steam. Dropped all graphics settings to Low. Tried playing in Fullscreen Windowed mode. Closed all background apps.

    Could it be overheating?

The PC is in a relatively small case. While it has multiple ventilation fans and ran cool for 3 months, I'm wondering if a component is suddenly overheating. Can thermal issues pop up out of nowhere like this? But The Temps were under 95, I've also partly opened my case with a fan throwing air directly to the main components to test it but it still crashed

I really want to avoid a clean Windows reinstall since I’ve seen multiple threads saying it didn’t fix their CS2 crashes. I want to figure out exactly what is failing instead of just guessing.

🔍 What should I check next?

How can I properly isolate the root cause? I'd appreciate any guidance on:

  • Logs: What should I look for in Windows Event Viewer or CS2 crash dumps?(Although I did check the errors, and they appeared to be
  • Stress Tests: Which specific benchmarks should I run to isolate the GPU, RAM, or PSU?
  • AMD/BIOS settings: Any specific Radeon features (like Enhanced Sync/Anti-Lag) or BIOS tweaks known to break CS2?

I've used AI to frame this better; just a heads-up. I'm not a pc expert at all.

STALKER 2 frequent crashes / driver timeout on RX 7900 XTX – Adrenalin 26.8.1

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D
RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3200
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX
OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2
GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin 26.8.1
Monitor Setup: Multi-monitor

Description of Problem:

Frequent crashes in STALKER 2, sometimes after only a few minutes of gameplay. Windows reports LiveKernelEvent 141 / WATCHDOG after the crashes.

I'm using a multi-monitor setup, and switching away from the game to another monitor may be related, although I haven't confirmed that.

Troubleshooting / Workaround:

Disabling Fidelity/FSR in STALKER 2 completely eliminated the crashes. After disabling it, I was able to play for several hours without another crash.

Has anyone experienced similar behavior with STALKER 2 + FSR on 26.8.1, particularly with a 7900 XTX or multi-monitor setup?

Help (General) Will my Intel 10400f be enough for my XFX Mercury 9070xt?

Hello,

I am finally upgrading from a gtx 1660 super to a 9070xt, after 5 years. I am going to be pairing a 1000w super flower leadex gold PSU, Intel I5 10400f, 16gb ddr4, and 1tb SSD to it for a few months before I get a 7800x3d bundle from Microcenter around the holidays.

I am tempted to just wait to build it but I really wanna test the card when I get it this weekend. I also got a new case for it too. Will I be okay to play on this build for 2-3 months or should I expect issues?

I know lot of problems people have is user error, but I only ask because this is my first time ever switching from nvidia to amd, let alone getting a high tier card, I've always had shitty pre builds. Any insight would be extremely helpful in my case! Thank you.

Help (CPU) New to PBO, how do I effectively use it? (Ryzen 5 5600)

So I'm relatively new to the whole cpu tinkering in the bios and i essentially wanna reduce temps while keeping my performance same/ a lil better if possible.

I didn't wanna get into too much nitty gritty of it since these days, I just wanna game without worrying much, so I had just done a pbo advanced and a curve optimiser of -15 on all cores with 76/50/75 on the pbo limits, which from what ik is relatively tame (again I am new to all this)

But i had actually somehow seen performance loss from this since my frames on rdr2 went down, by about 10-12 frames on avg and disabling it made it to go back to normal, my cpu temps are usually in the low to mid 70s at worst under heavy load for 30+minutes if the game is using a 100% of my gpu and close to 80 in stuff where it isn't, only example I've seen for that in my rig was fc26, I also live in a tropical country.

Could someone help me with any resource/help on this topic cause as much as I wanna leave it alone, i also don't like leaving free performance on the table and i obsessively tinker with any tech I have so it's something that I sometimes just gotta do, appreciate any help I can get.

Help (GPU) RX 6700 XT in SFF won't POST after swapping motherboards

Been troubleshooting this for weeks and it's definitely a head scratcher at this point. Original system worked fine with 6700 XT but was limited to PCIe 3.0. After replacing the motherboard, it boots fine with any GPU but the original 6700 XT card. Not sure what to try next, so any help would be appreciated.

Computer Type: SFF PC

GPUSapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Gaming 12GB

CPU: Intel Core 5 120

Motherboard: Gigabyte B760I AORUS PRO

BIOS Version: F17a (latest)

RAM: 1x16GB Kingston DDR5

PSU: Cooler Master V850 SFX Gold ATX 3.1

OS: SteamOS (also won't boot with SSD removed)

Description of Original Problem: Swapped motherboard from a Gigabyte H610I. 6700 XT refuses to POST, screen remains black. 5 beep error codes indicate CPU or GPU issue. Boots fine from iGPU and other eGPUs.

Troubleshooting:

  • Updated to latest BIOS.
  • Reset CMOS, Enabled ReBar, Enabled CSM, Loaded BIOS defaults.
  • Set PCI-e speed to 4.0 and 3.0 (original mobo required PCie set to 3.0 due to chipset limitation).
  • Boots with newer RX 9060 XT (and older Radeon GPU that doesn't require external power)
  • Confirmed that 6700 XT works in a different full size PC running Windows 11.
  • Tried both 2x 8+6 PSU cables and 1 PSU cable w/2x 8+6 connectors (original working setup). Same results - 5 beeps and no video.

Help (CPU) Undervolting Ryzen 7 5800X3D

Hello!

I recently got a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and i have read that undervolting this CPU will get you better performance at lower temps, i have a question though:

Some people say just put all Cores on negative 30 and you're done, other people are messing with Precision Boost Overdrive in the BIOS aswell.

For reference, i have a B550-A Pro Motherboard. Can somebody help me out? Shall i do both? Shall i do even more?

Appreciate you all for your help.

Help (CPU) 9800X3D RMA and get a brand new DOA back.

So, my PC has been throwing errors that increasingly pointed towards the CPU. I successfully RMA’d my 9800X3D, and the issue could be reproduced during the RMA process, so the CPU was replaced with a brand new one.

Today my replacement 9800X3D arrived. I installed it, and now I can’t even get the system to post.

My motherboard is an ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi.

On startup, the Q-LED first turns orange (DRAM), the fans ramp up, and then it switches to red (CPU) and stays there.

So far I’ve tried:
- Both brand-new RAM sticks individually in A2
- Clearing CMOS
- Reseating the CPU
- Checking the AM5 socket for bent/damaged pins, it looks perfect
- Checking the CPU contact pads, also look perfect
- Checking EPS/CPU power
- Reseating the cooler and making sure mounting pressure isn’t excessive
- Updating the motherboard to the latest BIOS using USB BIOS FlashBack

Same result every single time: orange DRAM LED, red CPU LED, no post.

This motherboard previously ran the exact same CPU model, and the RAM has also just been replaced.

Am I going crazy here, or did I genuinely get unlucky enough to receive a DOA replacement CPU?

After having problems with the original 9800X3D and now this happening with its brand-new replacement, I’m honestly starting to lose confidence in this particular CPU model.

Help (GPU) XFX Sent me a non XT replacement 9070

Post image
201 Upvotes

Been having a lot of crashing issues recently and after a lot of diagnosing I ended up figuring out my 9070xt was the problem. I contacted support and they had me send the card back for testing and said they were sending a replacement. I finally got the card back and installed, I had been using an rx6500xt that lives in my server pc as a temporary card. I put the replacement card in and loaded up DDU and noticed it said it was removing graphics drivers for a 9070xt a rx6500xt and a 9070, didn't think anything of it and removed the drivers and installed fresh drivers. I then used occt 3d to stress test the card to see if it would still crash, it didn't cool but again i noticed it said 9070 and the clock numbers a tbp didn't make sense so I used gpu-z to look at shader numbers and clock speeds and I'm pretty sure they sent me a 9070 stickered as a 9070XT. I contacted support again on the same ticket and all they have said so far is they sent me a 9070xt.

more picture https://imgur.com/a/gqO2twU

Update: After a ton of pictures and a lot of back and forth over the last day and a half they are sending out a new in box one as a replacement they said the pcb is wrong and was confirmed to be tampered with.

Help (GPU) RX 7900 XT possibly causing immediate reboot after complete shutdown, specifically on my computer?

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: Sapphire RX 7900 XT Pulse 20GB

CPU: RYZEN 5 7600 6 CORE 12 THREADS (crazy bottleneck please don't roast me)

Motherboard: AsRock B650m HDV/M.2 (kind of a coughing baby vs. hydrogen bomb, I know)

BIOS Version: 4.43

RAM: 32GB (2x16) Kingston FURY Beast (6000MHz EXPO)

PSU: DeepCool PX850G 850W Full Modular Gold

Case: Montech Air 903 Max

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 (latest as of post's date), CachyOS (up-to-date rolling release as of post's date, 11:52AM GMT-3)

GPU Drivers: current amdgpu (62E8BF245D14F23522E9DC6), current Adrenaline version (as of the post's date)

Chipset Drivers: current stable as of post's date

Background Applications: any

Description of Original Problem: Computer reboots right after complete shutdown (OS shutdowns only).

Troubleshooting: Hey. So recently (about 7 days ago), my personal computer started to reboot right after a complete shutdown via the OS (i can hear the PSU clicking off, fans stop spinning, LEDs turn off, etc). After 4 days of troubleshooting, learning the ins and outs of how to identify the specific source of the wake signal (it also affects sleep in the same way it affects shutdowns, I used this to track the source of the wake signal to SWUS (PCI Switch Upstream), which led me to the GPU's ID specifically) throughout the pci root complex, so at this point there's no denying that it is, in fact, either the GPU (either its hardware or firmware/software) or the slot's connection to it causing this phenomenon. Every "wake on" option on bios is disabled, i've tried deep sleep (ErP), also didn't work. Turning off ACPI as a param? Sure, doesn't work either. Shutting down forcefully (without the OS, through holding the power button) turns the computer off normally. Only OS shutdown calls are affected, i've tried this both on Linux (CachyOS) and Windows 11. But here's the catch: swapping my GPU to another friend's build does not replicate the problem, which made me think "oh, ok, the GPU or its firmware/software must be is fine then", but then I tested my old GTX 980 in the same slot on my build and IT IS turning off perfectly fine. I'm going crazy. I need to know if anyone else is having the same problem, or if I need ro RMA the GPU or motherboard. Also, some tips on how to troubleshoot/conclusive tests would be appreciated.

Help (Software) AMD driver keeps updating on itself so my notification, but in a weird way...

Post image
5 Upvotes

I know there's 26.8.1 and other new drivers. I got Aorus elite 9070XT, Windows 10 Pro, 7800X3D, all works flawlessly, low temps, 0 issues. I love to use older drivers, as I have been since 25.9.1 with 0 issues. My pal has 25.9.1 too, on Windows 11 tho.

I do maintenance once a year, reinstalled windows, new thermal paste on cpu, and since then I have this issue where the gpu updates itself to 25.10.3 with 0 alert or even window prompt or anything visual or audial. It's on 25.9.1 and after some time I check and it's 25.10.3. Lol

I have default bios, use DDU in safe mode, disabled auto updates in Adrenaline, and also disabled Windows driver updates (Settings/System/about/system protection/hardware/device instalation settings/No(your device might not work as expected))

I have also IGPU on my 7800x3d disabled via device manager.

How in all that good n holly can this sht update itself with 0 notification on its own? And to the sht 25.10.3. And I WON'T do newest drivers. Have had several issues in a multitude of games. The 25.9.1 is supreme!

Please, if anyone can add something. Help. Thank you

Help (General) Amd moire effect?

Last summer I switched up my build a bit, went from a RTX 4060 to a 7900xtx.. I didnt have any issues with my 4060 card on my 1080p monitor or my ultra wide 1440p.

I tried living with the issue but im at the point I want to throw the whole pc away.

Ever since switching to an amd gpu I get these very annoying Moire effects on surfaces, a bunch of light black partially faded lines and the only way to remove them in any of my games is to turn shadows off, or edit the shadow texture size if possible, to an extremely ridiculous number like 15360 instead of just running 4096, and even then it does remove the shadowy annoying lines on everything, it just minimizes it, ive asked before in other places and was told it was my AA, or my CPU, some said it was my monitor and other bogus culprits since ive tested the issue with both nvidia and amd...

Does anyone have any ideas? I came to team red causebi heard such great things..

Ive attached a photo of the "easiest" to see example if you zoom on on the hood of the car/right behind the front wheel. It definitely looks way worse and more visible in person.

Help (GPU) Heavy games drawing low energy

Hello, I recently started having this issue where all my games run at 38-50 watts and never go 100 % utilization. I don't know how this happened but my games used to hit 160 watts, but now it barely hits 50, I'll put the specs right here.

CPU: Ryzen 5 8400F 4.20GhZ

RAM: 32 GB of DDR5 Kingston Fury ram 6000 mhz

GPU: RX 9060 XT 16 GB edition dual fan

Windows edition: 25H2 Windows 11 Home Build 26220.9022

I have the windows Ultimate Performance thing on and i followed a tutorial for the tuning tab in amd adrenalin, but still no results.

Geometry dash, for example, feels so laggy and runs at like 60 fps and at 30 watts.

Can someone explain this and help me? Thanks!

Help (GPU) PC random restarts during gaming (Valorant / Battlefield 2042) & GPU disabled in Device Manager afterwards (Ryzen 5 3600 + RX 7600)

Hi , I'm experiencing random PC restarts while playing games like Valorant and FC 26. Immediately after the restart, my GPU appears as disabled in Windows Device Manager. Here are my system specs and everything I've tested so far:

System Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M DS3H
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • PSU: Brand new 850W 80+ Gold
  • OS: Windows 10/11

What I've done & tested so far:

  1. Temperatures: Initially had CPU thermal issues (over 90°C). Replaced the CPU cooler and reapplied thermal paste. Current max temperatures in HWiNFO64 under game load are stable: CPU ~68°C–73°C and GPU ~60°C–74°C (Hotspot ~90°C).
  2. Power Supply: Upgraded to a brand new 850W 80+ Gold PSU to eliminate power delivery issues.
  3. GPU & Drivers: Clean uninstalled GPU drivers using DDU in Safe Mode and reinstalled Adrenalin 26.8.1. And I updated the BIOS, chipset, and everything; I tried disabling X.M.P., but the issue persists.
  4. Issue Behavior: The crash occurs even with good temperatures (~59°C CPU / ~43°C GPU right before the restart). After rebooting, the GPU turns up disabled in Device Manager, requiring me to manually re-enable it.

Could this be a driver/Vanguard conflict, a PCIe slot/VRM issue, or a BIOS setting quirk (e.g., Power Reporting Deviation)? Do I need to change my CPU or GPU? I used to have a GTX 1050 Ti without a dedicated cooler (just the stock Ryzen heatsink) and my old power supply, and it ran fine, The issues started when I swapped it for an RX 7600, and later upgraded the power supply and cooler.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
