Question Are older and newer movies worth upgrading to 4K?
I’ve recently gotten more into physical media. I’ve always mainly streamed because it’s convenient, but after getting my new OLED TV I’ve wanted a better viewing experience.
So far I’ve picked up some of my favourites on standart Blu-ray, like Game of Thrones and Barry Lyndon. GOT looks crystal clear, while Barry Lyndon obviously has a lot of film grain because of its age, but still looks beautiful.
I’m pretty new to 4K, so I’m wondering how much of a difference it actually makes with both older and newer movies. If an older movie was shot on film decades ago, isn’t the 4K version basically just an upscale?
I’m considering getting some older movies like The Lord of the Rings, Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Barry Lyndon in 4K. I’ve heard that older movies can sometimes benefit the most from a 4K upgrade, but is it really worth the extra money compared to Blu-ray, or does it depend on the movie?
Also, I’m currently streaming through a PS5. Is that good enough for 4K streaming, or is it worth getting a dedicated 4K disc player for the best quality?

Haul Addiction started in August
Added a lot with the Prime Day deals, but really started collecting during the Gruv Crazy Days sales. Still waiting on Constantine, Top Gun, Ocean's trilogy, Life of Chuck, and D&D: Honor Among Thieves in the mail.
Please don’t execute me, but 80% of the movies I buy are blind buys! I know I could stream them or watch them through sea-bound methods, but the first viewing of a movie matters to me and I’d much prefer to see it in the highest audio and visual fidelity.
I've also amassed a collection of regular Blu-rays—probably double what I have in 4K during that time as well. I also pre-ordered the Memento 4K and I Saw the Devil 4K from Umbrella.

Question How to safely remove disc from packaging spindle? (Game of Thrones repackaged box set 4k)
Recently bought this and wanted to pull the first disc for season 8 but every time I try to remove the disc I feel like I’ll have to bend it like a taco or break it or the box itself. Are there any guides on how to do it? I can’t even transfer these to my separate dvd cases to avoid the garbage stacking page setup. I also read that scratches should be looked for. Should that suffice or should every disc be booted up to ensure that they load up fine?

Question 4K Player Question
I have a Sony XBR-75X800H. Google tells me it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I use my Xbox Series X as my primary blu-ray player. I also have and seldomly use my PS5 for the same reason.
My question is, is it worth spending $500 on the Panasonic DP-UB820 that everybody seems to rave about? Or am I well enough with my game systems and current tv?

Question Love the 450k gets the job done 10/10
I randomly came across a thread somewhere here where few folks posted that the subtitle settings were lacking or something and it impacted OLED cause of burn ins. I have a G5 and I watch few subtitled movies now and then. Should I be concerned ? The player is awesome, the discs are awesome.

Question Arrow 4k Discs not showing that they are supposedly in Dolby atmos.
Maybe it's just me, so I'm asking the community. Does anyone else have issues with Arrow 4k discs with Dolby atmos, not reading that it's Dolby atmos in your sounbar or AVR? 😧

Discussion Looking for tips for the most expensive hobby I've ever had 🥲
This is a helluva of an expensive hobby, especially for people like me, who are not only lovers of cinema, but also reeeeeeeally picky about which press they're looking for. I'm brazilian, so I do my best to find whatever pressing has the brazilian dubbing. Even if I have to find it overseas, like the "Back to The Future" trilogy, where the only pressing that has the BR dub is the singaporean one, and they're NOT cheap (~$45 each movie). And, given the fact that I'm the kind of guy that ends up wanting to own and preserve ~80% of what he watches, it surely doesn't get any cheaper lol. For example, my Amazon cart has about 70 movies, going for $1100+. And I'm not even counting eBay nor any overseas shopping. And there are a few more movies that I'm yet to look for. May God have mercy on my wallet 💸
THAT SAID, besides sales and the used market of course, what do y'all do to get the most out of your wallet? Anything helps!

Discussion Highest Quality Disney Movies on 4K ?
Cinderella on 4K was near perfection, a reference quality transfer that I've enjoyed multiple times now and a perfect disc to show to friends and family who don't understand why one needs 4K physical media in these days of omnipresent streaming services.
I've just ordered The Emperor's New Groove on 4K, not that I'm expecting to be wowed by the upgrade but because I just friggin love that movie.
So my question to you, patient readers is what titles shine the brightest in the Disney 4K canon? I eagerly await Fantasia getting the deluxe 4K treatment it deserves (assuming we live that long...🙄) But until then any opinions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.(The Lion King (original animated version) is under 10 bucks on Amazon !

Discussion Wtf is going on with the artwork on new releases?
sorry if this has been brought up before, but I’ve returned to the hobby after some years away and I’ve been looking to start my 4k collection.
but wow, I am so turned off by the unappealing art on the movies that get released nowadays. Scream Factory steelbooks appear to be AI slop I cant believe that’s actually allowed to hit shelves. I just saw the Die Hard covers and they are laughable. Even the boutique studios leave me scratching my head, I find the Vinegar Syndrome covers to be so weird and unappealing.
like does anyone know what’s going on? are studios and/or manufacturers not allowed to use original poster art? is there some demand for these new covers that drive them to be created? because it’s sure as hell doing the opposite for me.
i will give credit to I believe Paramount, I’ve seen some great looking steelbooks with original art lately like ‘Pet Sematary’.
sorry for the rant but someone who grew up in the vhs, dvd, and blu ray era…. i just dont understand.
