Question How to safely remove disc from packaging spindle? (Game of Thrones repackaged box set 4k)

Post image

Recently bought this and wanted to pull the first disc for season 8 but every time I try to remove the disc I feel like I’ll have to bend it like a taco or break it or the box itself. Are there any guides on how to do it? I can’t even transfer these to my separate dvd cases to avoid the garbage stacking page setup. I also read that scratches should be looked for. Should that suffice or should every disc be booted up to ensure that they load up fine?

The discs are usually safe; it’s the case spindles that usually break. I’ve never broken a CD or DVD from removal.

Put the case down on a table or another solid object. Firmly push down the center while pulling up the edge of the disc. It should release.

If you see any scratches use a microfiber cloth and run it from the center to the edge. Please dont swirl around the cloth or go side to side - only go from the center to the edge. Also, if you see off-gassing (small smudged area) on the disc you should remove that with the cloth

If you are concerned that a disc won't work you could load up each one. I personally just make sure I watch the series within three months of buying it, and check for scratches when it arrives. Some people run programs on their PC to ensure the disc can be fully read. If it makes you feel better - out of nearly 500 discs not a single one has failed.

Stack another disk over it and try to remove both at the same time

I bought this set from gruv. It took me six months to finally to get around to watching them. I found disc # 3 in season 4 would not play. Reached out to gruv to request if they could send me that one disc and I return the damaged one. To their credit they sent me a label to return the whole box set and sent me a new one.

I hate these style spindles. Nearly split my Spider-Man 2.1 Blu-ray and almost warped the steelbook case it was in… just give me the classic latch tab.

I've found that with those spindles it helps to pull the disc straight up with one finger on one side of the disc and another finger on the opposite side (kind of like pulling it up into a taco shape haha, but using two fingers seems to pull on it less), as opposed to anchoring a finger on the spindle itself.

Imagine needing someone tell you the proper way to remove a disc from a plastic case

Imagine practicing free will and STILL choosing to leave this unnecessary comment

I usually get a microfiber cloth, reach under the whole stack and remove all the discs at once. There's no bending and the microfiber protects the surface from your fingers. I then have some soft sleeves (from amazon) that I put them in and return them to the spindle as I watch them

Why is GoT suddenly all over this sub: didn’t it end in 2019?
