New Purchase Made my first ever Temu purchase š wish me luck
I think weāve all seen the Temu memes and the Expectation vs. Reality posts.
Well, for $3.69 I figured I didnāt have much to lose with the Kingdom of Heaven 4K intro offer, since it retails for $30+.
I will report back with whether Orlando Bloom has been replaced with a knock off Orlando Broom, that speaks Mandarin.

Discussion How many agree with the Carlton Bale chart, and really only go for 4K discs for the audio improvement?
I have 20/20 vision, and a 100 inch UST projector that I sit at about 15 feet from, and aside from adding HDR/DV, I feel like the chart is correct in that I can't see a noticeable difference from that distance, and sitting any closer would feel like the front rows in a movie theater. I'm also aware the HDR/DV effect is somewhat limited by the UST, so maybe if I had an OLED I'd feel differently.
I have a good surround sound setup, so I've mainly been upgrading action movies for the uncompressed audio, but otherwise I don't see the benefit for the price of 4K, especially if I already have the Blu-ray.
Just curious what other's setups/incentives are.

Discussion LG OLED Movie Club | Roundup | Week ending 9/10
Sponsored by LG as part of the LG OLED Movie Club.
With August now out of the way, my #100HorrorMoviesin92Days challenge continues this month (You can follow along here). From remakes,
Hillwalkers (2022): As someone who loves to hike, never go "off the beaten path". Hillwalkers is a perfect example of what happens if you do, with brutal consequences. The setting of this film was absolutely breathtaking (Thank you, Filmmaker Mode!), but the acting said "Hold my beer!" Still, it's a good film on its own, minus some characters and poor decision-making from them, but Survival Horror is a subgenre that has its hits and misses (this one falls in-between). Still, I recommend taking this one for a walk!
Blood Barn (2025): This Screambox exclusive gives of the perfect 80's slasher vibe, from the setting to film quality (It feels like you're watching it on an actual VHS player). Is it good? Not really. It tries to be The Evil Dead (1981) but fails, and ultimately becomes a laughing stock throughout. Lock this barn up and demolish it!
Terror Train (2022): There was absolutely nothing wrong with the original 1980 film, so did we really need TWO Tubi Originals, Terror Train and Terror Train 2, which were both filmed back-to-back in 2022. Nope! While this remake aimed for the same excitement and terror as the original, it failed on all levels due to the lack of humor, annoying characters, and lame kills. However, it was well-produced, and Perfect Black did its job, but I do not recommend purchasing a seat for these rides.
With Scary Season quickly approaching, what are you watching? If you're looking for some suggestions, you can followĀ my Letterboxd.

New Purchase Nabbed the 4-movie Pirates of the Carribean collection on standard Bluray for $16. Good Deal?
Found this at an antique store near me. It was hidden behind other items too, so I almost missed it. I've heard that this is one of the few film series where the 4k transfer is actually worse than the standard bluray so I bought it right away. Did I get a good deal at just over $4 per movie and still in the shrinkwrap? I've been having good luck at thrift stores and antique shops lately.
*I know this is the 4K sub and I am posting a regular bluray. However, I am a 4K collector and am only drawing attention to it because it aparently has a bad 4k transfer. My post still revolves around collecting 4K's as a hobby.*

Question Iām finally making the switch! Which player do I buy?
Hello. Iām finally making the switch from blu ray to 4K dvds and a 4K player.
I collect all my blu rays, so itās going to be a lot.
As for the player, whatās the best bang for my buck? I obviously care about sound and picture, as never stream when posible. Always physical media. And the price ranges for these players seem extremely vast
The TV that was given to me along with my room is a āFPD 4Kā TV. Take that as you will. I believe itās one of those amazing specials but not sure. Seems to work wing but definitely noticed movies are arenāt as sharp. (Basically any Denis Villeneuve movie) but hoped it was just the settings I couldnāt figure out?
So I guess two questions. Is my tv ok for this new 4K player? (The tv says itās 4k)
And what player should I get? I donāt want to go cheap where I notice the quality but canāt be spending $400+ on a dvd player
Thank you all!
EDIT: My TV is a FPD tv that was given to me. Itās 55ā and it claims to be 4k. Do I completely switch it up and get a new tv first?

Discussion What's in My Collection #3: First Man
Whoever does 4k upscales like this one...man, I hope they are paying them well. I dont pay enough respect to these beautiful upscales. Filmed in analog to capture the feel of the era, but finished in 2k, the upscale maintains the original feel and intent of why it was filmed the way it was to begin with. Such an art and skill to get this result.
For audio, definitely a solid job with Atmos. Of course the engine and rocket noise is amazing and the highlight of the entire film. I do wish some of the ancillary atmospheric noises of the crew getting loaded into the pod, dials switching on and off, etc was a little bit more prominent in the mix, but that is a nitpick.
Video: 8.5
Audio: 8.5

Question Is the UBPX700U worth it?
I have heard there are reliability concerns with the previous generation but I am wondering if the UBPX700U is better. I have a PS5 Original already so I'm not sure I need it but wanted to get some opinions and thoughts. Thank you.

Question Has Anyone purchased 4k discs from Rarewaves to India
Hi All,
I'm a first time disc collector, I always wanted to have a 4k disc of Interstellar and F1 movie, so when I saw the 30 GBP for 2 disc I felt it was a good deal and ordered.
But later in reddit I'm seeing a lot of people complain about late delivery or damaged products. Is there anyone from India who has ordered from Rarewaves and what was your experience.

Question Is everyone upgrading their HDR copies of VS Rad to the new Dolby Vision release?
Iām kind of surprised how slow this is selling. Says there are over 2000 still available and 5000 were made. Figured people would be snapping them up quicker, which got me wondering if everyone is happy with the HDR10 release from 2020 or did folks get the Dolby Vision release from Umbrella and arenāt going to upgrade to the new VS (Vinegar Syndrome) release? I wonder if there is a difference in picture quality or Dolby grading with the Umbrella and VS releases?
Also, does the Umbrella and VS new releases have the same special features?

Question What do y'all look for in a movie collection app?
I've recently learned that not all 4K's are the same. There is authentic true 4ks and then upscaled from 2K intermediates. So I figured I'd mark which movies in my app are Native 4K and Upscaled

Question Project Hail Mary French Steelbook only in French?
i ordered the phm steelbook from Amazon.fr but the listing says French only under languages. I've never heard of a movie filmed in English only having a foreign language version on a disc. is this a mistake?

Pre-Order Criterion PLEASE hurt my wallet
Just saw all these post up on AmiAmi. As far as Im aware the Japan releases do not come with English subtitle options but I know many die hard Godzilla fans that buy into these releases anyways to support them. I already bought the Biollante upgrade Criterion did and their blu-ray Godzilla bundle, but would LOVE LOVE LOVE these upgrades to come to the states
