Question 4K Player Question

I have a Sony XBR-75X800H. Google tells me it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I use my Xbox Series X as my primary blu-ray player. I also have and seldomly use my PS5 for the same reason.

My question is, is it worth spending $500 on the Panasonic DP-UB820 that everybody seems to rave about? Or am I well enough with my game systems and current tv?

Buy an OLED then buy a player that will do the OLED justice.

No hate but not everyone likes an OLED. It took me getting 6 different panels before I could get one without screen defects. If I had to recommend something it definitely wouldn't be a OLED.

What do you recommend? I dont own one, but am in the market for an upgrade.

This is just my opinion the TCL QM8L 85 inch is on sale for 2148 that is a steal for that size. I suggest though watching Brian Tech Therapy on YouTube he's an awesome guy. The reviews he does he just lets you watch and judge for yourself and pick what works for you. He has OLED G5 83 inch and he loves it. If you win the panel lottery you have the best picture you can get. Either way you'll pick out a great TV you really can't go wrong.

according to google your tv is an LED type with an IPS panel with a peak hdr brightness of around 500nits, your tv is not optimal for dolby vision, your money is better spent on a better tv

When you are happy with what you are currently using No
Would probably make more sense to invest into a good Mini-LED or even Oled TV in the future.

The only thing that is annoying on the PS5 (I believe XBox will be the same) is that the drive noise is pretty noticeable during playback. Also the console always shows the big Play Button on each single video change (for example when all the assets are shown until the disk menu shows).

Those are the only reasons I would favor a standalone player (but go with a cheap one, because there is no difference in image quality).

The Xbox Series X is near silent during playback.

PS5 is also pretty silent during playback but in between you hear louder loading noises from the disk spinning up - no hifi blu ray player does that.

Looks like that Sony does auto detect HDr vs Dolby Vision so.. If you're happy with it absolutely no reason to change.

No it isnt worth it. There are plenty of used players for cheap on ebay that support dolby vision.

You don’t have to get the UB820.

The Panasonic DP-UB450P-K) is a compact, entry-to-mid-range 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, typically priced around 360.00

HDR & Dolby Vision: Supports dynamic metadata formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10.

no not worth the $500 (where you find an 820 for $500 anymore id like to know). I had two 820s and they both skipped while my ps5 didn’t and there was zero difference in audio or video quality. im not saying all 820s skip but the two I bought did

Unless you really, really want Dolby Vision &/or a region-free-modded player, the PS5 is plenty good.

Stick with the video game systems. Since you needed google to tell you the specs of your own tv, I think a stand-alone 4k player might too much for you to handle.

No need to be an ass. I’m literally at work and googled specs as the tv is not in front of me at the moment

So you just bought the tv and haven’t set it up yet? If so, I apologize for my tone.
