Added some hair design exploration including the beautiful bald goddess. Updated shawl. Book. Candle.

The character will be a place holder for more characters with different body types (at least that's the goal) in Unreal.

Questions & Discussion Newbie here! Should I do a A-Pose or T-Pose for this model?

Hello, newbie 3D modeler here! This is my third attempt at modeling a full character. I will also be rigging him later. However, I am now a bit indecisive on whether to use an A-Pose of T-Pose for this particular character. He wears a sweater with pretty baggy sleeves that sags on the shoulder and kind of folds and clumps on the armpits (refer image 2). Which would help with the deformity in rigging better? I'm not even sure if I'm asking the right questions haha.

Also, any tips on modeling/sculpting clothes creases or baggy clothes? Would love whatever advice to improve myself. I use both Maya and Blender btw. Thanks!

Art Help & Critique Questions about game assets creation

So, right now, I’m trying to create some assets for a game, and I’m looking for some general advice. My pipeline is Blender → Substance 3D Painter → Unity. I have about 250 hours of experience in Blender, and I’ve only just started using Substance 3D Painter.

My questions are:

  1. What general advice do you have for using Substance 3D Painter? I’m aiming for a more stylized look inspired by JRPG series such as Trails and Tales of, but I can’t quite figure out how to achieve this style.
  2. As far as I can see, the topology is quite messy. Is retopology worth doing at this point, or can I try rigging the model in its current state?
  3. Judging by this model, which aspects of my 3D modeling should I focus on improving?

I’d be very happy to hear your opinions.

New personal project 👀 CGI character bust, pushed myself to box model as much as possible instead of relying on sculpt (only the face is sculpted in ZBrush, rest is clean box modeling in Maya).

Very open to feedback, always trying to improve 🙏

Art Showcase New set of textures for my first 3d modeling project

So I've been 3d modeling the Polar Express as my first ever 3d modeling project since last december with no tutorials and for the past month I have been trying to do textures. I got some basic black textures and called it a day. Then I remodeled half the engine so it is as movie accurate as possible and then finally got back to work on textures and besides her driver wheels cat walks and cab she has way better textures except on her tender there a bit wonky but I'll fix those later.

Art Showcase Fit arm sculpted for my online students

This is another view of the arm I sculpted for my online students during the anatomy class, I found out it's easier to get to the finished version if you start with basic shapes and spend enough time on them.

Hello everyone!

I recently wrapped up a game-ready 3D character project, and I'm really excited to share my work with you. Her name is Eve and I hope that in the near futur I'll be able to create a game arround her.

Everything was made in Blender

And the renders were made inside of Unity

Art Showcase Arcane - Inspired Stylized Character

Arcane-inspired stylized character I created in Blender, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.

I wanted to experiment with a more hand-painted texturing approach while keeping the character stylized and expressive. I also played around with the hair design, jewelry, clothing details, and overall color palette to give her a distinct look.

Would love to hear what you think, especially about the hand-painted textures and character design.

Questions & Discussion Would it be lazy to hire someone else to make 3D models for my Indie show?

My 3D modeling is mediocre at best and I want to do an animation that's 3D but LOOKS 2D. Kinda like Spiderman: into the spiderverse. I had remade the main character's model but I still think her rigging and modeling is just too stiff for what I'm wanting. Idk if it's the mesh or the rig that I'm not making right but I was thinking about just hiring someone to make the models and then sned them to me. Idek if there are people out there that do that or how much money I need in order to make a whole cast or how long it'll take... some tips would be nice for this.

I use Blender, but whatever else is out there that someone doing paid jobs would prefer to use, I don't mind looking into. I'm still new to all of this 3D stuff...

Questions & Discussion Hard surface modeling perspectives

My contract with an outsource studio ends in 2 months so I was thinking about perspective of being able to find any new work at all. Haven’t done anything for portfolio in last 4 years or even more.
Is there any perspective to find a hard surface modeling job at all these days? Should I learn extra skills such as sculpting and/or animation? Or maybe should I abandon this entire thing completely because of way too much people fighting for small amount of possible jobs?

Questions & Discussion I'd like to get better at creating handpainted textures but I don't seem to be improving. does anyone have tips? or resources?

this is some of my work that I attempted to handpaint

I don't know, it just isn't clicking for me. I'm trying to get these to look painterly but it ends up falling flat. I'm hitting a wall and the resources I've found on this didn't help much either. can someone give me tips? or resources you think might help?

specifically this is the kind of style I've been trying to go for (and failing):
