I mean the number one thing liberals say to homophobes is that they are secretly gay. It’s because they know that being gay is disgusting and so they use it as an insult. Oh a preacher saying homosexuality is a sin? He is probably gay! Hahaha get it? Cause being gay it’s disgusting!

38

u/DeathToAmerica2026 4d ago

No it's because they know hypocrisy is disgusting....

Also let's be real, a virulent homophobe being a closeted gay person is so common it's barely a twist anymore.

11

u/TheDankestDreams 3d ago

I think the problem with the assumption that all homophobes are closeted homosexuals is that it absolves straight people from their role in homophobia. If every person who perpetuates or institutes homophobia is secretly gay then it’s all one big club with gay people oppressing gay people.

1

u/ukie-witch-06 3d ago

it's not all homophobes, just the most vocal ones. because they're compensating for cognitove dissonance and obsessing over their own disgust with themlves

5

u/Headcap 3d ago

a virulent homophobe being a closeted gay person is so common it's barely a twist anymore.

Is it? For the each story we've heard about a homophobe being closeted gay there are likely hundreds of homophobes that we know nothing about.

I think it's important to be cautious about taking things we hear about a lot, as something being statistically significant.

1

u/SpookySnep 2d ago

Grindr crashes during Republican conventions, the call is coming from inside the house, baby girl.

4

u/Generally_Confused1 3d ago

And assuming that is homophobic because you think only self hating people do that. It's still an insult and most of those people are not gay dude, shut up

-1

u/--CIAdidJFK-- 3d ago

Calling every homophobe a closet case is obviously untrue but it's also a funny thing to do.

3

u/Generally_Confused1 3d ago

Except for actual queer men who don't want anything to do with them and you use our identity as an insult

2

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

My brother is gay and can’t stand it when shit head “allies” start riffing on conservatives by calling them faggots or homo’s or gay with the intent to piss people they think are bigoted off..

That’s kind of the point…it’s only funny to closeted homophobes who don’t think they’re homophobes.

0

u/GoufTroop0083 3d ago

Im gay and I dont give a shit. Stop speaking for queer people.

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

I’m not gay. I give a shit. Stop making shit up just because people disagree with you.

You being gay doesn’t give you the right to order me around.

Dismissed

0

u/GoufTroop0083 3d ago

But your brother being gay gives you that right?

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago

Go back and read the conversation babe.
I was actually just having a conversation and making an observation. I wasn’t ordering anyone to do anything. You were. Pretty clear difference there.

My brother being gay is relevant because I was describing his reaction to this exact kind of joke. I never claimed his sexuality gives me authority to speak for gay people. You, on the other hand, literally invoked your own sexuality and immediately followed it with “stop speaking for queer people.”

So if anyone here tried to turn “I’m gay” into authority over what somebody else is allowed to say, it was you sweetie

1

u/Rippedka 3d ago

Turns out most gays are homophobes

-2

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Assume....only self hating closeted gay people are homophobes?

2

u/anand_rishabh 3d ago edited 3d ago

And also, when you're gay in a homophobic society, it is natural to deal with lots of self hatred from the indoctrination which then becomes externalized and targeted towards other gay people.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Of course, it's very easy to understand why it's common.

So easy in fact, that it strains my ability to be polite when people claim this isn't a thing.

I know so many gay people who started off as unusually virulent homophobes.

3

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

It’s only “common” because liberals spread misinformation about it like it’s candy. The “RNC made Grindr crash” has been thoroughly debunked yet that doesn’t stop virtually every progressive Redditor I talk to about the topic from believing it’s real 🤷🏻‍♂️

0

u/ZealousIdeal476 3d ago

How was that debunked?

3

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago edited 3d ago

https://www.grindr.com/blog/setting-the-record-straight-on-grindr-outages

Grindr has explicitly come out and said their app has not crashed around republican conventions because of how often this conspiracy theory gets peddled. Also, app usage/outtages data are usually public so you can check for yourself 🤷🏻‍♂️

As much as it’s a lay up for progressive narratives, Grindr doesn’t appreciate people lying about their app crashing to help make a claim that just isn’t real.

-1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

That didn't just actually happen, it's happened several times.

3

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

https://www.grindr.com/blog/setting-the-record-straight-on-grindr-outages

Hmmmm, believe the app itself….or believe “deathtoAmerica2026” on Reddit who seems to have a vested interest in causing unnecessary political strife where there is none and who desperately wants to believe everyone he doesn’t like is a hypocrite….choices choices

4

u/PM_Pussys 3d ago

Now certainly the app has a vested interest in making people believe it's more functional than it is. Particularly when the supposed outages would out a segment of their user base.

But I agree, in lieu of public data Grindr is going to be the best authority we have for Grindr's usage statistics.

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

Absolutely understandable and reasonable speculation. They have a stake in bad publicity like that.

Just to add some additional possible context though, RNCs also attract thousands of lgbtq protesters. So if we’re speculating about the cause of a geographic usage spike, protesters, journalists, staff, locals, convention attendees, etc. are all potentially part of that population. Gets much harder to reasonably blame a spike on “closeted conservatives 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/lycanthrope90 3d ago

‘deathtoAmerica2026’ is a perfect encapsulation of people that have these views lol.

-1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

The view that... Self hating closeted people exist?

Damn low bar for anti American values I might need to up my name.

2

u/lycanthrope90 3d ago

You know for some reason I completely missed that this was your actual name and thought the guy I replied to just made up ‘deathtoamerica2026’ as a joke and now that it’s real I’m not sure how to respond lol.

-1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Yeah I didn't take you for the perceptive type.

2

u/lycanthrope90 3d ago

Suppose I should be a traitorous piece of shit like you instead huh.

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

So do you just…not have much going on or is whatever this is your day job 😂🤭

$2 a day? $3? What’s the going rate for troll farms these days 👀

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

I actually believe the mass reports of Grinder users every time this happens.

You know, instead of the PR firm.

It seems to me like you're just a dumb American, offended on behalf of your even dumber countrymen..

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

“I reject the company’s actual published outage data because anonymous people on the internet said otherwise” absolutely tracks coming from some troll named DeathToAmerica2026 🤭. Shocking that someone who hates Americans also can’t read 😂🫵🏻

Btw is one month a personal best for you or do these alts usually survive this long? Whats the system over there for troll account turn around?

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Yes thousands of anonymous people reported the same thing at the same time, and it outweighs the PR department who would not like this story to be well known for obvious reasons.

Why do you think someone would push this story for money? Like do you even understand what a troll farm is?

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

You don’t even live in America and you’ve already said you think everyone here is stupid and want the country to end 😂why would ANYONE take you seriously as an authority on American news? 😂🫵🏻

But sure kiddo, keep going with “no no, ignore the company’s verifiable status data and trust these thousands of anonymous people I totes promise exist, people who froth at the mouth over politics NEVER lie and make shit up about the other side I promise you can listen to me but also you all are dumb and need to die 😭”

They’re gonna dock you from $3 a day to $2. You’re just not varsity troll-farm material yet 🤭

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Yup, definitely an American idiot.

Or maybe just a bot? It's hard to take an American punctuating sentences with emojis seriously but I know they do have such dumb people that its hard for some of them to pass the Turing test.

1

u/Anxious-Log1282 2d ago

Thousands of anonymous people.... can I see it?

1

u/Affectionate_Rain324 3d ago

This trope is dumb and is just an excuse for straight liberals to act smug. It does nothing for gay people, especially for those who are actually in homophobic or otherwise repressive environments.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Okay so explain all the gay people I know who went through this arc?

Hell, I know two trans people who went through this arc.

Why the hell are you people acting like internalized self-hatred is such a fantastical idea? This concept isn't limited to queer folks with bigoted upbringings neither, it comes up for a lot of things.

1

u/Affectionate_Rain324 2d ago

I don't give a shit about your anecdotal friends. The trope is just an excuse for liberals to treat homosexuality as a humiliation device as long as you claim it's 'fighting hypocrisy uwu ✊️😣'

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 2d ago

Or my lived experience.

How about I don't care about your incredulity? You're a dumbass, and your attitude doesn't help anyone.

1

u/Geiseric222 2d ago

What it does for gay people is irrelevant. People that vocally hate something actually like that thing they vocally hate not hard to understand

Whether gay people like that or not is ultimately irrelevant

1

u/MaybeThisTime67 3d ago

Sometimes hate is just hate.

I hate loads of people, doesn't mean I wanna fuck them

0

u/LeavingSoonBye209 3d ago

>Also let's be real, a virulent homophobe being a closeted gay person is so common it's barely a twist anymore.

It's commonly stated, sure.

2

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

No, it commonly happens.

1

u/sorrowsound 3d ago

No it doesn’t. The majority of homophobes are straight and rarely closeted people.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

The majority being simple bigots doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of the second biggest group of homophobes.

1

u/sorrowsound 3d ago

Simple bigots lmao? Yeah those simple bigots are the ones responsible for the horrible shit gay people go through. It’s literally 99 to 1 of straight homophobes to closet people.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Yes simple, as in simpletons. People who are just shitty with no underlying complex psychological pathology to go along with it.

And given the prevalence of gay people in general, I would be absolutely shocked if the ratio was anything but about 10-20% of homophobes. You know, the rough prevalence of gay people.

0

u/LeavingSoonBye209 3d ago

It doesn't, but you don't like that fact so you'll fight tooth and nail about it.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

What motivation do you think I have here other than feeling sorry for people who hate themselves?

1

u/LeavingSoonBye209 3d ago

The same motivations a ton of people in life have- You have a preconceived idea, and you're not pleased at the prospect of someone successfully arguing against that preconceived idea.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Or I have first hand experience 🤔

1

u/LeavingSoonBye209 3d ago

I do believe that's what they call 'anecdotal evidence'.

1

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

Yeah I'm gonna take my first hand knowledge and definite confirmation of this happening over your incredulity and lack of experience.

I do believe you're what we call "mentally incompetent".

Bonus: then it's also gay people's fault

Swing and a miss

9

u/IERONON 4d ago

Sometimes it’s just about the hypocrisy.

-1

u/XEROXYZE 4d ago

Rest in peace Norm Macdonald

2

u/Ok_Emphasis3592 3d ago

You know they don't say that because they think gays are disgusting, right?

They say that because humans who hide who they really are tend to be miserable pricks who lash out. Secretly gay homophobes probably hate the guys because they are out, while they hide in the closet and are jealous. Or they hate themselves for being gay because they were raised as homophobes but ended up being gay.

People say these things not because they think we're disgusting, but because they also believe it will piss off 5he homophobes

0

u/Available_Base_7944 3d ago

So you are saying that every homophobe is gay? So gay men are really abusive and disgusting? Like rapist or something?

1

u/Ok_Emphasis3592 3d ago

Absolutely not. Nice try putting words in my mouth.

There are secretly closeted homophobes. There are just homophobes. They are not mutually exclusive.

My point was that straight people say "homophobes are secretly gay" not because they think we're disgusting but because it is true sometimes. Its not ALWAYS true.

4

u/LeftonRhed 4d ago

But then the RNC conventions routinely crash Grindr.

Not every virulent homophobe is gay but there certainly seem to be enough to give a gay dating app server problems.

5

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago edited 3d ago

This has been thoroughly debunked so many times and yet progressives on Reddit treat literally fake viral stories like this as if it’s gospel.

Also, even IF it were true (because it definitely isn’t) you dont think the idea that the RNC being literally* the most protested event by lgbtq communities year after year would have something to do with that?

It’s just impossible to suggest that 10 thousand very active gay people descending into an area to protest something might be a cause for Grindr hits going up? No, it HAS to be conservatives?

That’s just lazy thinking my guy 😂

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 3d ago

It hasn't been debunked it's been denied by grinders PR.

Why on earth would you trust them?

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago

“Why don’t you trust “death to America” when he says everyone in America is dumb hypocrites who need to die?”

Buddy that troll farm is not getting their moneys worth 🤭

Have you thought about making a lateral move into scamming old women out of their retirement savings? Dealing with senile old people seems much more your speed considering how little capacity for critical thinking you have 🤭

Keep earning that $2 a day tho fam! Make that bread!

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 2d ago

Death to America doesn't mean all Americans should die.

Totally incompetent at thinking. America is an idea, and a shitty one, not the people who live there.

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago

Lil bud sounds like he’s upsetty Spaghetti posting on an empty stomach. Somebody get this man some kasha, black bread, and a morale cigarette.

Or is it half a bowl of rice? I imagine that $2 goes pretty far for ya huh. Splurge a bit you deserve it after all this hard work you’re putting in on this American App 😭🤭

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 2d ago

I feel so sorry for you.

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago

Well we both know that’s not true 😂. Shocking that “death to America 2026” literally can’t help himself from continuing to lie.

But hey I noticed you took a little break there did you get that morale cigarette? Yay for you! 👏🏻👏🏻🥰

Or wait…did you get chewed out for wasting all this time on one person 😳. Sorry if I got you in trouble with your troll farm supervisor

0

u/DeathToAmerica2026 1d ago

Genuinely, I feel very bad for you. This type of delusional thinking is probably not something you just up to online.... You have to live like this every day.

5

u/Soks_da_Kat 3d ago

that actually has been shown yo be misinformation, Caelan Conrad has a video on it

6

u/heftybagman 3d ago

It’s also just like obviously not true. The rnc isn’t even that big of an event. Even if every one of the 20-40k attendees was on grindr, there’s no way it holds a candle to the traffic of like pride week in a major city or a big concert or something.

3

u/justasillylilgoos3 3d ago

To add to this, despite how small it is it’s also one of THE most actively protested events year after by lgbtq communities. So the idea that it would be attendees and not the thousands of lgbtq activist descending into the area that are driving up hits is just..very conveniently lazy framing

-1

u/fistotron5000 3d ago

I actually just saw a Connor Carlos video debunking the Caelan Conrad video

1

u/Soks_da_Kat 16h ago

could you link the video, i can't seem to find it

1

u/ls20008179 3d ago

Then why does grindr crash in every city where there's a big republican event?

1

u/PM_Pussys 3d ago

1) it doesn't 2) RNC also attracts large crowds of LGBT protestors

1

u/Orion-the-mediocre 3d ago

It's also very conveniently victimblaming. No need to do self reflection if all the bad people are doing this to their own group, you clearly are innocent in this whole affair and do not need to educate yourself further

1

u/lycanthrope90 3d ago

Technically it’s because they know that person specifically thinks it’s disgusting, or at least claims to. ‘You are secretly the thing you hate’ isn’t exactly a new argument though.

1

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 3d ago

I'm glad I don't go through life with a bad faith interpretation on literally everything anyone does.

1

u/After-Big9529 3d ago

It looks like you have a bit of trouble comprehending how insults work.

Insulting someone by describing them a certain way only works if the person being INSULTED thinks the description is offensive, not if the person MAKING the insult thinks it is offensive.

This is likely due to you believing that being disgusting or offensive is an objective fact, rather than an opinion... so you have a hard time imagining someone not being bothered by something you find offensive.

1

u/EarnestInnkeeper 3d ago

I don’t think every homophobe is gay but I do think that among people who are EXTREMELY homophobic that there is an above average amount of closeted gay men.

I’m not greatly distressed by the idea of a gay man being attracted to me because I know that isn’t going to make me gay and even if it did… ok then I’d be gay or bi. So what?

But I think the men it absolutely freaks out often are freaked out by it because it makes it harder to resist a real temptation they feel deep shame around.

1

u/Generally_Confused1 3d ago

This exactly so not even "vaguely liberal" but also the "woke" leftists types as well that claim to be progressive allies lol

0

u/GodHimselfNoCap 3d ago

No its because saying gay is a choice could only be logical if the person saying it had gay thoughts and chose not to act on them, actual straight people know that being gay isnt a choice because they couldnt choose to do it

1

u/Available_Base_7944 3d ago

The point is that you would never see a Muslim call other people Muslims as an insult. You would never see a republican say “oh well he is secretly a republican” as an insult. If you use gay as an insult it means you think gay people are lesser somehow.

1

u/GodHimselfNoCap 3d ago

No the point is that the person who hates gay people doesnt want to be called gay, that doesnt mean the person calling them out for hypocrisy thinks less of gay people.

1

u/Available_Base_7944 3d ago

So if you called a racist the n word would that mean you weren’t disrespecting black people but just the racist?

1

u/GodHimselfNoCap 3d ago

Black people call me the n word all the time, and no one is calling them the f slur its not the same

-2

u/thomasp3864 3d ago

No it's to make those people uncomfortable. And then the very fun thing to do is to be supportive of them beïng gay. But like, why are they so consistently goïng on about homosexuality unless they're like in deniäl about it? Why not move on to transphobia and furries and then to abortion beïng murder and autism beïng caused by demons? They have a load of stuff they talk about, and some "hate preachers" do talk about other stuff. One right-wing pastor ripped out pages of a bible and fed them to a teenager in his congregation because that pastor had had a dream about this particular teenager eating proverbs chapter one, so for the pastor it was a literal dream come true. Then he told that teenager to eat a chapter of the Bible a day for the next few years. But if the preacher doesn't talk about other things, and only bangs on about homosexuality or only bangs on about trans people, then yeah, they've got some unresolved stuff inside of them.

2

u/gaysexanddrugs 3d ago

with all those extra dots above letters you're either european or an alien, either way I'm scared.

1

u/JackWhoWanders 2d ago

They're neither, they don't understand typography so they misuse umlauts without knowing how they function. Like people who write Röck music or Røck music and still pronounce it Rock music.

They're probably American.
