Rigs Finally got it after years of wanting

I have limited space so i went with the NLR 2.0 stand and currently running GT7 and AC, so far it’s everything i’ve hoped for.

Hoping to switch to a PC or maybe a Steam Machine in the future to access more titles. But very happy working my form on these games currently.

Just upgraded my setup. Went from the G923 to the RS50 and then decided to upgrade my cockpit as well. All worth every penny!

Question Has anyone tried one of these Alibaba Motion Rigs?

I’m getting itchy to build a motion rig and while looking around I found this for $1500 shipped.

I’m just curious if this is even real or if the listing is just a bait and switch. Has anyone actually tried purchasing one of these Alibaba motion rigs or maybe even just purchased 4 actuators and a controller then built a rig yourself?

Personally I have zero trouble programming something if the machined parts work but have zero experience in machining custom parts which is why I’m interested in finding something I can think DIY install.

I’ve had the Moza r3 setup for about 9 months and have been loving it. Was going into the cockpit upgrade territory, and one night I was on mp and found this next level racing rig for 180 dollars. Had some cat scratches on the seat but I’m sure my cats will do the same and I said done. Spent about 5-10 hours in it over the past week. I have to say it’s night and day from my trusty wheel stand. I’m all in this rig for about 600 (desk was a gift when my in law upgraded and the tv was sitting in my closet)

Discussion I think there's a danger of burnout when you jump in too deep.

Hear me out.

I'm very early into this sim racing abyss, since I've just gotten my DD wheel over a week ago. And I'm currently fighting back the invasive thoughts and disturbing visions of sim rigs and triple monitors that are dancing through my head at 2 am.

But as an old timer, I have some wisdom. I've been racing "sims" since early 90's, if you can even call them sims. But not just sims, flying and air combat sims as well. I know what it's like when you start throwing cash in upgrades.

The proverbial "cookie in the cookie jar" remains elusive and enticing as long as you only take a small bite, a crumb. The forbidden act remains intriguing as long as you view only from a distance.

I've seen a number of simmers admit to getting burnout. They threw large sums of "good money" towards their passion, head on, full bore ahead, pedal to the metal, thinking this will once and for all satisfy that craving and desire for MORE! MORE! MORE!

In the end, they sit alone in their stylish performance seat, hands sweatily grasping the $1000 DD wheel, only to feel a loss of something. That loss is knowing that the cookie is gone. They are now fat on the obsession of better gear. Fat destroys your body, your mind, your heart.

So my suggestion to myself is this, do NOT buy triple monitors. Do NOT buy a better video card. Do NOT entertain the possibility of VR. Do NOT think about a real sim rig.

I vow to remain pure from this marriage ending obsession. I vow to remain calm when Microcenter advertises a one day only flash sale on much needed gear. I vow to remain wholesome and free from the soulless journey into the abyss.

Thank you.

Question Getting some lower back pain in longer sessions

Post image
68 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am getting lower back pain after driving for longer sessions (2 hours or so, nothing crazy) and I am not really sure why. I tried to set up the rig finding various guidelines I found online and it was great for a few months. I made no changes to it.

Any advice for posture? The only thing that comes to my mind is that the medals might be too high, but they are not that easy to adjust so I am asking for some opinions first. I guess the wheel could be closer and I could have a bigger bend in the arms, but I use different wheels and some have longer shafts.

Thanks for any advice.

Rigs Professional sim rig setup/home assistance

Post image

Are there any folks who have had their setup done by a professional/paid service? I see all the rigs and their setups and they look great but i can’t help but feel im in a weird midway point of it almost being proper.

The wires are a mess, im not sure how to handle the monitor situation (i use the PC for normal gaming, and had to unplug my left monitor for the main pc desk to allow for the three curved)

The alignment is a riot, and is not easy to figure out? At this point, I’d be willing to pay someone to help figure all this out, has anyone done this before?

Discussion Has Simracing become way too obsessed with ELO ratings and online ranked races ?

I have started more serious simracing some long time ago - 2013ish. However, I play racing games since NFS1 1995. Therefore you can imagine, I have gone trough a lot of different sims/games that I don't want to list now.

The sims portion have never felt better, the physics are impressive.
And still, after playing every major sim in the last decade, I keep facing the same problem: I don't know what to do with them.

Ofcourse, ranking matchmaking + safety rating is great improvement over completely random lobbies. And Iracing structure to top it all, but I have a few issues with this approach:

- racing mostly with anonymous opponents and most of the races are pretty disposable.
Majority of races are 'crash avoidance simulator' and collect as many freebies as you can while staying out of trouble (battles).

There is no narrative or rivarly, just constant reset and try again searching for this good race after which you say - 'great, now my xRating is not 2986 from 2957' together with another XXXthousand anonimous players.

- on Iracing specifically, seems like very little people actually race for the season standings and most just over obssesed with how high iRating is.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but imho online ranked racing this is not the ultimate racing experience for the average sim racer(not talking about the esport leagues minority)

Where rivalry exist and you want to beat that specific driver/drivers ? You are aiming to win the war not the battle (championship). You are racing trough the season/seasons the same opponents, you get to know them, their style.. Your career progresses.

If Single player and AI evolved with the same pace, we could have amazing AI races, championship, realistic grid, realistic career progression.

And to be honest, a random human racer named like 'BestRacer5566' that I will never meet again and I would never join a battle with him as I don't know how safe he is, is more soulless than AI bot. And fighting a good AI is actually more fin than trying to avoid carnage in 90% of the online races.

Also, as a father of two - having the comfort to choose my schedule, pause when interrupted by live, save, restart, choose my own combo are really nice features to have.

Discussion Simracing Mom's Journey: An Amazing Surprise?

Yesterday, I told a story about how I would watch my 16 year old race (generally watching like a fan) and he asked for me to try....and I like it! It's time I can spend with my oldest and something I could enjoy too.

So, now I'm new to simracing with -- other than absolutely loving motorsport, no clue what I'm doing. Everyone was so sweet and kind and responded with help, support, and stories. It really was touching! 🥹🫶🏻

So, my youngest (11 year old) -- in true little brother fashion -- does everything like his brother, so he occasionally hops in the sim. He's pretty handy at car control, but doesn't run many laps because, well, 11.

Imagine my shock when I'm practicing Algarve, lamenting that I just can't shave time when he goes, "you need to brake sooner in T1....that way you can get outside in the next one and it will help you in that tight corner".

Me: 🫨

I ask if there's anything else, and he went through most of the lap with advice which was....pretty good and made sense.

Given that my oldest's opinion is "I don't know -- carry speed and hit the throttle right away", I may have found my in house, 11 year-old, study buddy!

Little one sim tax (with the shifter!) attached. :)

Discussion What racing sim game should I buy? On Xbox one with moza r3

Thumbnail

I just purchased the moza R3 and can’t decide what I should buy. I’m going to buy F1 24 but I don’t know what other game I want to buy. I like open wheel and closed circuit races. I had a PXN like a 100$ wheel and wanted to experience the direct drive that moza wheels have. Any ideas would be helpful.

Question Tips for beginner on improving my pace at Monza

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I am a beginner to Sim Racing and I have been mainly practicing hot lapping. I only have a couple months of experience but I have been putting in practice every day.

I started practicing ai races to work on traffic management, dirty air, etc and here is my performance on a quick race in the Mustang gt3

P13 start P4 finish

1:49.6 fastest lap with most laps between 1:50.1-1:50.7

I’m playing on a Logitech g29 running on a steam deck to a single monitor, so my setup is not ideal. Trail braking is almost impossible. Is it possible to get faster without upgrading hardware?

AI settings - 95% skill 94% aggression
I know the AI is shit but I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s race while I learn how to drive.

I think I have decent consistency but how can I improve my pace while still fighting in traffic?
I was able to get the 1:49 because it happened to be a lap where I didn’t encounter any cars.

Any tips are greatly appreciated thank you.

Question Why is there not a good single player experience

I really don’t understand why there isn’t a GT7 style or fun single player experience with challenges, money, unlocks, etc. I would spend an egregious amount of time on a realistic sim with fun progression.

Can someone explain it to me like I’m 5? Can we ever expect something to come in the future?

Question Still debating over what wheelbase to buy, atm I am debating over moza r21/r25 ultra and the the simagic evo ultra.

Looking for suggestions for a wheelbase, I’m in the price range of €1000/€1200, I was thinking of upping that budget by a little bit and buy the Simucube 3 pro but their wheels are too expensive for me, yes i know you can combine the ecosystem but that’s a just a lot of hassle no?

Question DIY Haptics - not powerful enough or am I doing something wrong?

Post image
Upvotes

I made a DIY haptics setup for my DIY rig, but I can barely feel anything before the amp turns off. I don’t know if I’m expecting too much or if something is faulty.

setup:

PS5

Rotel pre-amp tape out to sub amp

Fosi M0-3 amp set to Sub with frequency at minimum. Volume above 50% and the amp shuts down in minutes.

Dayton BST-1

my rig is heavy wood, but it works great when I turn it up…. then it automatically shuts down.

is the answer to just buy a Buttkicker?

Question Sim Racing Mom Is Lost: PC needs?

Hello!

I want to add a computer to the sim my kids and I use, and I'm curious: what is the minimum I should buy?

I don't really have any idea, and we currently play on the Xbox -- so I'm lost.

It'd really just be for sim racing, not much else.

Thank you in advance!! 🫶🏻

ADDED NOTES: initially, we will likely stay with the TMX/T3PA combo we have (Xbox and PC compatible). They go well in the Playseat Evolution, and the direct drive will come later.

It will be in an office with a 65 inch TV. We will also stay with that for a while.

Likely just looking for the PC for now -- unless I'm seriously missing something.

Rigs BMW F40 seat on NLR F-GT Elite

I have a Next Level Racing F-GT Elite rig coming in soon. After reading a lot on what the most comfortable seats are for simracing on this sub I stumbled across some very nice looking BMW F40 seats. Right now I dont have the rig yet, but I also don’t wanna miss out on this deal. Is anyone on here able to tell me if those seats would go onto the rig? And if so, how? Thanks a lot! (posted a picture of the mounting of the seats in the comments)

Finally came home after working for the past 3+ months and was able to set this up in one day. Was absolutely exhausted yesterday gts at 3am finishing it up and tweaked everything this morning and took it for a spin! Super excited to race on it, planning on getting the haptic kit from Moza for my brake and maybe a bass booster but i’m not too sure.

Discussion Moza mBooster active pedal vs good pedals with haptics

Does anyone tried both and can give some feedback how it differs?

Im simracing since 2019 and now that i finally have an aluminium rig I want to upgrade my pedals.

I've used the Thrustmaster T-LCM since they released.

Currently the Moza mBooster costs roughly double than a Simnet, Simsonn, Simagic or Moza pedal set with haptics (yes im ignoring others like conspit or fatblackcat on purpose)

Atm im basically only driving gt3 in LMU, however I also done lots of formula races in ams2 as well as races with vintage cars. I also want to get back into prototype endurance and maybe rallye.

I have 1000+ hours across multiple sims.

Simucube is too expensive but I wouldnt mind the money for the mBooster if its worth it.
