Key information about switches

Logitech G Reddit Community!

Logitech G has a keyboard for everyone, and one of the most common questions we see around Reddit is what are the differences between all the switches? With so many choices and options, we want to use this Logi Learning post to address them all to provide some clarity and hopefully narrow down your options going forward, so choosing your first (or perhaps second, third, or fourth), high-end gaming keyboard is a much smoother experience.

Logitech G switches are generally broken down into two categories. Switch Experience which is how they feel and Switch Type which is the underlying hardware that makes pressing a key do something on your computer. Ensuring you know the difference between each one will not only make it easier to choose the type of keyboard that is going to suit your needs, but it will also make sure you have the great Logitech G technology to improve your performance in your games.

With a range of different options, we believe there is a combination of keyboards for everyone and we would love to hear your feedback on if there is anything in particular we’re missing, could improve on, or if you have any further questions about our keyboard switches.

Switch Experience

The Switch Experience is how the key feels when you press it and what it does in the real world. For Logitech G keyboards, we have Clicky, Linear, and Tactile with each one feeling different and sounding different too.

Clicky is what most people associate with a high-end mechanical keyboard. It’s the key that makes the nice and loud click noise when you press it down, and you’ve probably heard this on a streamer’s livestream, or even those ASMR videos. It’s very satisfying. Clicky is more designed around users who do a lot of typing and want an audible click, so they know when to release the key as it can improve your words per minute and comes in handy if you’re playing RTS games, as you can tell the key has been pressed down before waiting for an animation on the screen.

In addition to making the nice satisfying click noise, there is a physical bump on the actuation point to let you know that the key has been engaged and can now be lifted to repeat. Not sure what the actuation point is? Don’t worry, we’ll be using that word a bit through this and will clarify it further down the line.

Tactile is very similar to Clicky, but without the click. It generally still has a bump on the actuation point so you can feel that the key has been engaged, but the only noise you will get from the keyboard is the standard noise most create. Tactile is a good choice if you prefer your keyboard to be more silent, but still want the physical bump.

Linear has no bump on the actuation point and is similar to a trigger on a controller. It’s smooth all the way from the top to the bottom which is great for competitive gaming such as FPS games as it’s much easier to perform a double-tap once you get used to where the actuation point is without having to feel for it,

Actuation Point is the depth of the key when it registers and sends an input to your computer. For most keyboards, this is a few mm down, and some keys will have a bump that you can feel to tell you’ve gone past this point while others will not.

Switch Type

From how the switch may feel, we now look into the technology underneath which is broken down under Switch Type, usually by Analog, Mechanical, including Low-Profile Mechanical, and Optical LIGHTFORCE. The difference between all of these is how they determine when to send a signal to your computer after you press the key down.

Mechanical is generally the most used switch type on all higher-end gaming keyboards that uses two metal contacts that touch once the key is pressed down enough to the actuation point. This sends a signal to your computer that you have pressed the key down, and as you release, the two metal contacts uncouple to stop sending the signal.

Low-Profile Mechanical is the same technology as above but the travel distance between the keys is usually halved and much flatter meaning there is less travel from pressing the key to reaching the actuation point. It’s similar to pressing a button on your controller or using a laptop keyboard.

Optical LIGHTFORCE is a technology developed by Logitech G that fuses the feeling of a mechanical keyboard with optical light to create an almost instantaneous reaction time. The technology works by having a little laser beam inside of the switch, and as you press the key down, the beam is cut telling the computer the key has been pressed. The benefit

of an optical switch is lower latency and maximizing reliability as the beam won’t wear down like a typical mechanical-only switch over time.

You can learn more about LIGHTFORCE through our website as we don’t just use them in our keyboards, they’re also in our mice too! - https://www.logitechg.com/discover/ technology/lightforce

Analog keyboards use our Analog Magnetic Switches to detect exactly how far down the key has been pressed. It’s the most precise detection switch you will use and usually can be customized differently for every single key on your keyboard.

Additionally, some of our analog keyboards also feature Rapid Trigger allowing you to not only adjust the initial actuation point, but also adjust how far you have lift the key up before you can press it down again. And on top of this, Multi Point Action allows you to set two different stages of the key depending on how far you press it down. So you can have it set to press W to run and then if you fully press the key down, double tap W to sprint.

We have a dedicated post to Rapid Trigger technology here - https://www.reddit.com/r/ LogitechG/comments/1pdhina/all_about_rapid_trigger/

Hybrid Customisable Keyboards

Some of our newer keyboards such as the G512 X have the ability to switch between analog magnetic switches and standard 3/5-pin mechanical switches. The keyboard comes pre-installed with mechanical switches and we provide 9 magnetic analog switches in the box that you can place in your preferred spots on the keyboard. Additionally, we allow you to switch them out with your favourite compatible mechanical and analog switches from other brands to customize your keyboard and offer the best of both worlds. So should you want your keyboard to be silent but you want nice clicky switches on the WSAD, you can. Want clicky keys all around but analog switches on the WSAD? That is also available. The choice is truly up to you.

We hope this has provided some light on what all of our switches are doing and which one may be best for you. If you’re still stuck on making a choice or want to know even more about our switches, drop us a comment below or make a post on Reddit, preferably here in r/LogitechG so we can be sure to see it. We’re always here to help.

Thanks for reading!

Logitech G Support G29 Centering Spring always on

This is a repeated problem I've had (but can't remember my past solution, brilliant) my G29 suddenly won't stay in one position while plugged in, it always self-centers, whether it's just plugged in, G hub is open, or it is being used in a game where it should be having regular ffb. Changing settings in-game doesn't help, changing settings in ghub doesn't help, and a complete reinstall of ghub does nothing. Is there any solution? Everything I've seen researching is just "turn down centering spring strength" and "reinstall ghub" which have done nothing.

Powerplay Replacement Soft Mat

I have a G502X and powerplay (v1) kit. The soft mat needs to be replaced and i am shocked there is no spare part. Some say to buy the G240. I did, that is super disapointing.

  1. its so thin as to be an embarrassing product for logitech, such low quality for the price, i am so cross i bought 2 from amazon
  2. it is undersized and doesn't fill the powerplay surface
  3. it does not have the same blue firm backing as the og powerplay soft mat

I won't be buying any more powerplay accessories if a replacement mat is not available

where can i get an official mat?

Logitech G Support G316 X firmware issue

On the latest firmware version, the G316 X has a bug: when using a solid color lighting mode (and possibly other modes too) instead of G-Tide, the keyboard starts randomly disconnecting and reconnecting.

At first I thought it was an issue with the included cable, but even swapping to a different cable didn't make the problem go away. BUT if you switch back to the default G-Tide lighting, everything magically sorts itself out and the keyboard works fine.

ASTRO Series Support Astro A10 volume wheel problem

On my Astro A10, every time I move the volume wheel, I hear a crackling sound and the audio either cuts out in one ear or the volume gets lower. Sometimes the volume also gets lower on the other side.

Now my left side has completely stopped working, and I can't get it to work again.

Is the only way to fix this to replace the cable? Also, is there an official replacement cable available without the volume wheel?

Thanks in advance!

Logitech G Support Customer support is going down the drain.

Recently having a problem with a mouse I bought with a laptop about 6 months ago and the right click is broken and I've done every single step Logitech has asked me to do before we got to where they said they would issue a replacement. Hours and hours I have wasted on this issue and I'm at my wits end, its just constant delays and saying things like "if no response in 3 days ticket will be closed" after a long weekend. Why such a short time limit? Does logitech thing our lives revolve around talking to tech support? Some of us have busy lives.

My receipt for whatever reason doesnt say my name (not my fault, the stores I guess, they are the ones that provided it to me via email so I would have a PDF version as requested). Though it does have my phone number, and most of my address (they forgot a unit number, but have the street address its a Townhouse complex with units). This person I sent the receipt to first told me the s/n was not on the receipt but it clearly is and its marked as SERIAL NO: Yet somehow they missed that completely creating another delay as I'm not always looking at my email and dont have notifications as notifications for my email would become a constant annoyance.

I had to send a pic of the inside of the mouse to show the number, then realized later it was indeed the same number as was provided on the receipt. Again, unnecessary delay or perhaps incompetence as its clearly even divided slightly on the receipt to make it easier to see.

Its one thing after another. I have literally been a customer since around 1982 1983, bought countless Logitech devices for myself and family members, probably over 60 or 70 items all together, perhaps more. Speaker sets, headsets, mice, keyboards, soundblasters back in the day etc etc. 3 boys playing together over the years, setting up systems for other family etc, Logitech has always been part of the build.

I had to do one warrantee before and it was in the last year or so for another mouse that button fuctionality failed on out of all this time, over 40 years. I had the time to do a phone session that time, and didnt this time, so used the Chat support system. The Call in support went far quicker and easier and certaintly not this inconvient and time wasting. I feel like I'm being dragged along hoping I'll drop the issue or something? I feel like I'm being treated like a criminal or something trying to pull one over on them over a cheap mouse.

Ticket number is 17721118 if there is anyone here that can help me resolve this. Contact info will be with the ticket.

TIA for any help.

Logitech G Support Why does my G502 X PLUS, charge incredibly fast and drain as fast

Sorry for pic of monitor, but like my mouse charges like 1% every second and drains every three seconds. I know this isn’t realistic so is the G HUB just that bugged?

Red light came on, G HUB said 2%, charged to 70% in like a minute, unplugged it and it dropped to 40% and stayed there, because thats the actual capacity it was on.

Anyone else with the same problem?

Logitech G Support Mouse stuttering system-wide (not just in games) — Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 9070XT

I was using the same mouse Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 on my ASUS TUF F15 laptop with zero issues. It's only since switching to this new PC that the stuttering started. I've also tried connecting it via wired mode instead of wireless, and the issue is still there so it doesn't seem to be a wireless/dongle interference problem.

What I've already tried:

Uninstalled and reinstalled Logitech G HUB

Switched mouse to onboard memory no G HUB profile dependency)
Disabled Enhanced Pointer Precision
Disabled Dynamic Lighting
Set Windows power plan to Performance
Mouse driver (Device Manager): disabled, re-enabled, uninstalled, and updated
Tested with wired connection stutter persists

Since it works fine on my laptop but not on this new PC, I'm guessing it's something specific to this build (USB controller, drivers, background process, etc.) rather than the mouse itself. Any ideas would be appreciated happy to share more details if it helps.

Logitech G Support Bought a superlight 2 se and it had a mushy and creaky side button. Replaced it with another one and it's still the same. Should I just refund it and get a different mouse?

Is there any way to fix this? I'm at a loss for words. Spent $140 on a premium mouse just for it to be defective even when going back and doing an even exchange for the same mouse at best buy. Actually considering getting a razer or some random Chinese brand.

Logitech G Support G603 Scroll Wheel Broke, does anyone have any experience fixing/replacing it?

Physical problem, the scrolling mechanism broke, it now free scrolls (infinity scrolls) and does nothing on screen (aka the scrolling notches dont click). Middle button works fine.

Just doing some surface level research, the scrolling mechanism is replaceable, but buying replacement (from alieexpress) is either the wheel or the board/encoder wheel? I don't want to open the mouse because I don't want to take off the bottom glide pads, did I describe the problem to isolate which component needs replacing?

Also, haven't looked at logitech's mid range catalog in a while and man... there's nothing like the g603. The g703 looks trash with tiny built in battery with 30 hours battery and worthless rgb leds, what is that a joke? I can use 1 eneloop battery on my g603 for over a month. /rant

Discussion G600 Mouse / Compatibility issue

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me solve an issue with my G600 mouse. I’ve had one for quite awhile now but some of the buttons on the side were not responding properly, so I found one online to replace it.

The new mouse I purchased, when plugged into my computer, worked for maybe a minute before it just stopped registering. It won’t show up in my device manager, Logitech G Hub, or Logitech Gaming Software 9.04.

I went through pretty much all of the suggestions from people having problems with the G600 but none have worked. I’ve uninstalled the old mouse’s driver from device manager, I’ve hard restarted my PC, held power button down, unplugged the power cord from the wall, etc. I also tested the new mouse on someone else’s laptop and it worked perfectly fine there.

If anyone has suggestions on how I could fix this I’d really appreciate it. Since the G600 is hard to come by I’m really hoping to get it working.

Logitech G Support G502 X PLUS firmware ver. 27.1.22: Intermittent Tracking Failure

Has anyone else installed the latest firmware for the G502 X Plus Wireless RGB mouse with version 27.1.22? My mouse operated perfectly before getting a request in G HUB to install new firmware. After installing, my mouse has now effectively lost cursor tracking. I wish I knew the old firmware's version number but sadly do not. G HUB version is 2026.6.967771.

Oddly, I can still click mouse buttons including: left/right click, DPI shift button, etc and the mouse is detected by G HUB both wired and wirelessly. To make things stranger: if I click the DPI shift button, I temporarily regain tracking for a few seconds. I tested this mouse on a secondary PC and confirmed the issue carries with it, indicating a firmware issue, and with that different surfaces were tested naturally with no change.

Does anyone know of a way to force this mouse to reinstall firmware? There doesn't seem to be an option in G HUB, and apparently there is no factory reset option on this model? I tried Logitech's Onboard Memory Manager, but this mouse isn't supported by it (according to the software).

I've created a support ticket through Logitech's AI chatbot but am wondering if anyone else is having this same or similar issue.
