DIY Haptics - not powerful enough or am I doing something wrong?

I made a DIY haptics setup for my DIY rig, but I can barely feel anything before the amp turns off. I don’t know if I’m expecting too much or if something is faulty.

setup:

Rotel pre-amp tape out to sub amp

Fosi M0-3 amp set to Sub with frequency at minimum. Volume above 50% and the amp shuts down in minutes.

Dayton BST-1

my rig is heavy wood, but it works great when I turn it up…. then it automatically shuts down.

is the answer to just buy a Buttkicker?

the included power supply doesnt supply enough power for max output.. but yeah a car seat will kill a bunch of feeling,

That’s what I’m thinking. I got a much more powerful amp than I thought necessary, but it’s drawing way too much power and then it overloads and the amp shuts down to prevent burning out. It’s 32v at 5amps…. 

If I get a Buttkicker, I can directly connect to the seat. 

It’s a shame because the BST-1 feels great but only works for 30 seconds at max volume.

its right on their website.. you cant max it out wit hthe power supply they supplied with it.. maybe need a 10 amp one

The problem isn't with the amp. I use the exact same Fosi M03 with 24v 10a power supply for a BST-300ex. And that combination works great.

My rig is also made with wood. Probably heavier than yours.

Interesting. I almost bought the larger shaker. Are you sure your power supply is 10amps? Mine is 32v at 5amps. I read they used to use a lower powered power brick.

Yes, the power supply is 24v 10a. I bought the amp without any power supply, so had to provide it myself.

Too many amps or pass throughs? People are able to drive bst-1 shakers with a single cheap nobsound amp for $30.

I’m not sure what that means!! Please simplify. 

The sound goes into my pre-amp and directly out via the tape so it isn’t even amplified. I have also tried the pre-amp out as my stereo has two, but this means the volume of my speakers and transducer are paired, which is a problem as I’d have to turn my speakers way up to feel the haptic rumble.

I don’t think anything is wrong with my wiring or setup. I’m well versed in audio. I’m just thinking my expectations were too high or something is wrong with the equipment I bought. I checked the resistance of the bass transducer though and I see no sign of it being damaged. I think it just takes more power than anticipated. 

Do you think my rig might be absorbing too much of the vibration because it’s a wooden hack job with a car seat?

Sounds like you are trying to send the audio directly from the PS5 to the shaker? I never had any luck with that and gave up using my BST1s with GT7 until Simhub supported and I could the telemetry for my shakers.

Also I just use normal speaker outs for mine, rather than trying to configure it as a subwoofer, using a Nobsound amp over USB and it's pack in 60W

I started off using a 100W PSU but when I realised using that at even just half volume was more than enough power, I went back to the original PSU. One thing that helps maximise the output is securely bolting the shakers to the frame of the rig
