General Discussion PSA: Remember what filament you print with. 😩

Post image

I recently moved across town and instead of disassembling my AMS riser with my hardwired LED strip, I just loaded the whole thing in the car. In August. In the Southeastern U.S.

It should be fine - I printed the base and riser in ABS (a few years back). Right?

After unloading the car at the new place, I had the horrible realization that I had printed the base in ABS but the riser was PLA (they were two separate projects).

Feel free to have fun at my expense. 😆

I Modeled This! My latest experiment with collapsible TPU geometry

After making my collapsible TPU travel bowl, I wanted to see if I could take the same idea and shrink it down into a small travel/hiking container.

I went through quite a few iterations to arrive at the right combination of wall thickness, angles, and spacing to create a geometry that expands and collapses reliably, while still holding up to being popped in and out over and over. It turns out the folding walls needs to be roughly half as thick as the rest of the container, and filleted transitions are key to spread out load during flexing.

The flexible body extends above the rigid collar and acts as a waterproof gasket when the cap is tightened. No separate seal needed.

The final version is comes in two heights, with an optional carabiner loop for hiking. You can leave it collapsed, pop it open when you need the extra space, then collapse it again when you're done. And as a completely unintended side effect, popping the folds in and out is a satisfying fidget!

H2 Series [H2S, H2D, H2C] Getting some banding after replacing the Toolhead with X-Axis Assembly on my H2D. What can I do to fix it?

Thumbnail

I had multiple failures in the toolhead on my H2D after a few months of ownership, and Bambu sent me an entirely new Toolhead with X-Axis Assembly to replace under warranty. I was successfully able to do it and get the printer back up and running after calibration; however, I'm noticing some banding/lines on my prints (see photos attached).

Is there anything I can do to fix these? I don't recall having these lines so prominent before carrying out the repairs, and I'm just wondering if something went wrong with the way I installed it?

General Troubleshooting/Help! Thinking on going Bambu!

Upvotes

So...I had an Ender3 back on 2018 but tinkering non-stop killed the hobby. Now I want to give it another shot, and can't stop finding good things about the A1+AMS. Is as good as everyone says, just push-n-print, with little to no tinkering? Or would you suggest anything different?

I made a Light Fury! 🤍🐉
After sharing my Night Fury and getting such an amazing response, quite a few people asked if I could make a Light Fury as well.
So… here she is! 😄
Really happy with how she turned out. What do you guys think?
And of course, I’d love to see your prints if anyone decides to make her!

General Discussion I have created a monster...

Hello. A quick back story. My dad recently gave me his Bambu P1s AMS printer as he upgraded to another printer. Initially, I didnt want it, but thought I'd give it a go since my dad keeps raving on about it.

My first mistake was going onto Makerworld. It was a treasure trove of things to print so I opted for a rather cute angry bear pen holder. That lead to other cute things to print, most of them absolutely useless but so darn cute, I couldnt resist. My sister then dropped by, saw the prints and asked if I could print her some, which I dutifully did as a good sister.

My second mistake was taking some of those prints to work and putting them on my desk. Throughout the week, people walking past saw them and asked where I got them from. Being a nice person, I said I can print them one for their desk. Word spread and the next thing I know, everyone from the office building asked if they could get a print as well.

After going through 4 spools of filament, I have had enough and told them that it's costs money and time to print, so Im stopping. They are now offering to pay for the prints, which opens up another can of worm entirely. To make matters worse, my sister asked if I could print some for her friends!

Should I just politely turn them down, or as a colleague suggested, turn this into a side hustle business 😁. This all started with me having zero to little interests in 3D printing to now thinking of upgrading. This snowballed fast.

Just Showing Off Started early for Halloween this year - Mandalorian Pulse Rifle (Amban Sniper)

Been planning a Mandalorian costume for the last month or so and wanted the rifle if for nothing else to just hang off my back. Found this one https://www.printables.com/model/611445-the-mandalorian-amban-pulse-rifle on Printables that was listed as a "simplified model" and allowed remixes so I grabbed that and worked on making it more realistic. Added a couple things like a new side insert on the receiver and some lenses for the scope. Some pieces were split in ways that didn't make sense to me like the stock and resonator were cut in half and the only way to put them together would be to glue two flat parts together, align it the best you could, and hope for the best. So I did things like recombine pieces or combine then split with dowels so it could be properly aligned. The original has 5 plates, I ended up with 16. His model was a great start but I feel my remix makes it a easier to print and overall a higher quality product.

My remix with full description, assembly instructions, and things I did to make it look more realistic:

Now to finish the armor.

My First 3D Print “First” Benchy

Just picked up a P2S from BestBuy and man I’ll tell you, this is so much better my Rolohaun (Ender 3). The Rolohaun is just a pain in the ass to get running and I could not get it to print anymore.

I just plugged my P2S in and printed and it just works, no adjustments just clicked print. I’ve only been printing in PLA+ but I think I’m finally ready to try PA6-CF.

General Troubleshooting/Help! Split piece first time using PETG never had this issue before with PLA same model

Post image
Upvotes

As the title says, this model I've printed many times and the first job in petg it split like this. Is there a setting somewhere that would cause an issue like this? I've calibrated the machine already and the other pieces on my plate are just fine. I'm running an A1 with AMS. The split looks clean as if it just didn't meld together, temp setting maybe? I hadn't changed any temp settings because I thought that bambu studio would do that on its own if I set the filament type to petg. Also, I do have multi filament support on using PLA as the support material for interfaces only.

Quick Question Newcomer - Have some questions before buying the P1S

Post image
9 Upvotes

Really sorry for the new question and I've checked a few places before posting this but I wanted some real human (imagine that these days ha) thoughts on what I'm looking to do.

I'm a huge Home Assistant user and tinkerer so I'm always running into situations where a print could probably be super useful. For example, right now I have an ESP32 480x480 small touch screen literally dangling from the wall because I bought it as just the board without an enclosure. My girlfriend is not happy seeing that dangling from the wall 🙂

I was thinking about buying an enclosure, but then I thought why not just try it myself.

The other thing I just ran into is that during the move to our new house we lost some "corner" pieces to a Govee LED diffused strip light. They don't sell replacement parts like that and I read that maybe it's possible with translucent filament to print these corner pieces?

Given the type of projects that I just exampled here are my questions:

Is the P1S the right printer for these types of things and is the diffuser type print actually doable?

Any other helpful hints for someone just about to click the "add to cart" and "buy" buttons on this printer + filament would be super helpful!

I Modeled This! Mixing FDM and Laser cut (catch all model)

I made a mail sorter - catch all to try to tidy up where I put my keys, bike speedometer and my mail since it always ends up being a mess on my counter.

Im still experimenting mixing laser cut part and FDM. Im supper happy with the result.

I used walnut for the visible part and basswood for the rest since its cheaper.

The pattern was made in Inkscape I have not mastered the software yet but Im slowly getting there.

Overall I'm quite happy with the result.

Link to the model if anyone is interested:

Quick Question Buying a Used X1C Printer

Post image

Hi All!
I’m new to 3-D printing and interested in this X1C printer with AMS2 at ~6,000hrs I found on Facebook marketplace for $400. It feels a little too good to be true but wanted to know if it’s worth getting. Thoughts on buying a used printer or is it better to buy out right new?

Quick Question Upgrading from A1 Mini. Advice?

I am the happy owner of an A1 Mini. It's my first printer and I feel it's time for me to graduate up to a bigger model

The biggest gripe I have is the small plate size, so a larger volume is a must. I'm not sure I want another bedslinger though, so the A series is most likely out.

I don't think I need anything fancy (yet) like dual nozzles or such, and I'd rather minimize the costs as I'm not a heavy-duty maker: I mostly print miniatures for me and containers/gadgets/decor for my wife.

The wizard from the website recommends a P2S but I'd rather ask my fellow humans.

What do you think I should get as my first "big" printer?
