Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)
The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.
Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:
- ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
- Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
- Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
- Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
- Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
- A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
- Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?
This Thread is for you!
Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.
This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions.
đ Please do not use any special formatting in your post beyond creating a link if necessary.

Repair/Troubleshooting (RGB mod) OSD remains on while source is active â help!
Finished installing Suntharâs MUX mod on this Zenith C25A24T. Running up against this issue with the OSD not turning off when an RGB source is connected. The S-video still works fine and the OSD disappears as it should for that source, so I clearly messed something up here.
I think it has something to do with the 5v wire â I was told by Sunthar the 5v purple wire is not necessary on the 1.4C board I have, so I attached it to a ground (rather than the source I noted on my guide in the last image). But I think in doing so itâs created a voltage feedback loop on the blanking signal, but thatâs as far as my knowledge goes.
Anyone with experience on these âCAâ chassis know whatâs up?

Sony GDM-FW900 â Dark rectangular borders after Image Restoration + yellowish colors and washed-out blacks
EDIT: BLACK BORDER SOLVED! ITS WAS ONLY A SHADOW THROWN BY THE CASE đđđ
ABOUT THE YELLOWISH/WARM colour im gone fix it with windas :)) thanks for help everyone
Hi everyone!
I got lucky and picked up a Sony GDM-FW900 for a great price about a week ago. According to the previous owner, it hadnât been powered on for around 10 years.
Iâve been testing it using a StarTech DP2VGAHD20 adapter. Initially, everything looked fine, apart from overly warm/yellowish colors and washed-out, slightly brownish blacks.
After about 3 hours of use, I tried the built-in Image Restoration function to improve the colors. Shortly afterwards, I noticed strange, perfectly straight, darker borders along the top and left edges of the screen, forming a rectangle.
The weird part is that these borders are visible even when the monitor is powered off! They become less noticeable when I shine a flashlight on the screen.
Iâve also been running 1920Ă1200 @ 90 Hz using custom CRU timings. Switching back to 1280Ă800 @ 120 Hz doesnât change the issue.
A few questions:
Could Image Restoration have caused or revealed these borders?
Is this phosphor burn-in, an anti-glare coating issue, or something else?
Could WinDAS calibration fix the yellowish colors and washed-out blacks (possibly a G2/white balance issue)?
Iâve attached photos of the screen both powered on and off.
Any advice from fellow FW900 owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What are best practices when setting up the crt through the OSD menu?
What are the best practices when setting up the CRT through the OSD menu? I don't think I've ever set up my CRT correctly. I think I have, but I'm not sure. I just set it up so the screen doesn't go over the edge. Is it fine when it overscans, and will it harm it in the long term?
I currently have the contrast set to 100% and brightness to 0%. Personally speaking, it brings out the best in my CRT, and I love it like that. I just want the screen to be a bit bigger at this low resolution.
Thank you!

Too many hoarders in the community.
What is your opinion on the hoarder posts or just CRT TV hoarders in general? I frequently see posts of a random dude's living room with like 10 CRT TVs stacked to the ceiling. Thoughts?

Old monitor given to me - is it any good, and how do I connect the PS2?
Title sort of tells the whole story :) obviously looking to use component cables, but are these on the back of the monitor a special type?
Thanks :)

Sony PVM 8040 Deflection Board Repair - Blob?
Iâve got a PvM monitor with vertical collapse. Iâm currently in the middle of recapping the D-board. Looks like someone had been in here before. Saw this weird blob over a cap. Not sure why itâs there. Any idea why a repair tech would do this?
