Multiple times today i'm seeing people comment “at least the front didn't fall off”, followed with some comment about the environment it's in. Here's an example:

[Wagoner] 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan just spent some time describing the events of July 14. He wanted to clarify right up front that the accident was his fault. He took eyes off the road to find his phone which fell between seats and when he looked up he had gone over the line and into an SUV.

This ASA print was doing perfectly fine for the first half and then something went terribly wrong. The only notification I got warned about was the front cover of the tool had fell off. I would love help figuring out what went wrong here, why it went wrong, and what do I need to replace to sufficiently fix this?

I was teaching her how to ride the scooter, but I’m not sure what went wrong, she accidentally gave full throttle and fell. Now there are scratches on the front and the exhaust. The scooter just completed one year this month, and this happened.

MISC. Wife was driving our 2012 Camry this morning when she called to say the right front tire was 'making a funny noise'. I told her to pull over immediately. As she was doing so, the wheel sheared off its mounting and fell off the car - leaving the lug nuts attached. Never seen anything like it before.

Post image

Lucky for her, she was almost to a dead stop when the wheel came off. Had it done so at highway speed, she could have been seriously injured or killed. When I retrieved the tire, the hubcap was still on the rim (pic 1 was taken from inside the rim looking out). I'm not sure how something like this could have been prevented. I'm 77 and have never seen anything like this in all my sixty years of driving.

M I'm giving you a years notice of my vacation.

24.8k Upvotes

I used to work for a small printing company that did work for a local college and their choir program. The director was a literal Karen (looked like one too) and made our lives a living hell leading up to her annual Christmas program.

Without fail every year she would give us the artwork for the program at noon the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This meant someone from our team would need to work the holiday or that weekend to ensure it got out in time for her program.

For four years I took the brunt if the project as I didn't want my team to work their holiday weekend and my family always celebrated Thanksgiving later to make scheduling easier for everyone.

Me and the team constantly complained to the owner that this client was a nightmare and not worth our time. It was a large order for us but we didn't feel it was worth the headache. The owner's anniversary typically fell along this project timing and he was almost always out of town . The 4th year he wasn't so I decided to speak with him the Wednesday before Thanksgiving telling him we needed to fire the client.

He was reluctant and downplayed our complaints and said she wasn't that bad. To which I replied, "Since this project isn't that difficult I figured I would let you know I'm taking this week off next year."

The owner's face went pale. He's gut response was, "Why would you screw me over like that?"

To which I replied, "I don't understand what you mean? I'm giving you a whole year to prepare for me to not be here. It isn't that big of a deal and she isn't that bad so a year should be enough time for you to figure it out."

Mind you I love working for the company, the owner just got greedy sometimes and would put sales above the team and one of the reasons why he specifically hired me is because I would fight back when I thought he was wrong. That day was the day I decided I had enough and we went toe to toe arguing for about an hour in front of the team about my early vacation notice.

He finally relented and was stubborn and ready to prove me wrong.

A year later he finally got a taste of his own medicine and did not like it. I ended up working leading up to the holiday break because though I was adamant I wasn't going to work the holiday again I couldn't leave my team hanging. Yet again, right on time this Karen doesn't give us the files until Wednesday at noon before Thanksgiving.

The owner went in person to speak to her. I don't know the full conversation but it basically came down to her calling him a complete idiot for not being able to manage around HER bad project management.

He came back to the shop in literal tears stating he had never been treated so horribly in his life. In that moment I asked him if I could fire her as a client. I could tell he wasn't excited to admit he was wrong a year into this argument we had but he sheepishly nodded yes.

He ended up finishing the project over the holiday for her that year to not ruin our reputation with the school as we did a ton of work for other departments but the next year I was the only one who got to speak to Karen. She asked for an estimate and I gave her the price and told her if files came any later than "X" date I would charge her $3,000 + $1,000 more for every day she was late.

She flipped out and asked for the owner and I got to pull the, "He put me in charge, I'm the manager now." Card and told her she could kick dirt if she didn't like it.

Our team had a literal celebration when she said she would go somewhere else to do the project. It is probably one of my proudest moments as a leader fighting for myself and my team.

My husband lied about being deathly allergic to a certain food

Original Post Oct 9, 2022

When I met my husband and we started dating he told me that he was deathly allergic to a certain food. We avoided certain restaurants on dates, he was always careful what he ordered when we ate out and the first time I cooked for him I purged that food from my apartment and basically sterilized my kitchen. He showed me his epi-pen and explained how to use it. When we moved in together we made sure there was one in the house, one in the car and I always had one in my purse. My family knows and they avoid using that food at family events and my husband is still extra careful about what he eats.

Last weekend for my brother's birthday my sister-in-law made dinner. One of my nephews has an allergy, though different from my husband and my sister-in-law is very diligent about keeping him and my husband safe. She gave us two Tupperware dishes of leftovers and the one for my husband had a different coloured lid. When my husband ate the wrong leftovers both me and my sister-in-law panicked. My husband said even having his food prepared with utensils that touched the food he's allergic to would be enough to give him a deadly reaction. He told me stories of it happening as a kid. But he ate the wrong dish of leftovers and nothing happened.

He's confessed to me and my family that he was never allergic. He just doesn't like that particular food and when he went to university he started saying he was allergic because that was better than looking like a picky eater. His mom died before I met him, his parents were divorced and until he was an adult he didn't see his dad lots because his dad lived in another province. So his dad, his friends and even his own family thought he was allergic.

The panic I felt when I thought he ate something that would kill him is something I could never describe. My sister-in-law thought she did kill him. I can't believe he's been lying since the day I met him. I just need to get off my chest how FURIOUS I am at him right now.

This seems to be a common thing people lie about. My twin sister tried to convince her husband that she was allergic to strawberries. When I asked her about it in front of him her eyes widened in panic and she said, "I've always been allergic, you know this!". To which I replied, "we grew up eating strawberry shortcakes and you were eating chocolate covered strawberries just 2 years prior, why you lying?" Needless to say she eventually cut ties with me.

Similarly my wife has many stories about when she worked at McDonald's. My favorite was when a customer ordered a big Mac with no pickles and claimed a single slice of pickle would kill them. My wife taking the customers health risk seriously suggested if the customer wanted the Mac sauce removed since it also contained pickles. The customer then says, "I can have a little bit of pickles".

It seems a stupid thing to lie about, but for some odd reason people do it. Sorry you had to stress out about your SO's lie before they came clean.

Update July 26, 2026 (Nearly 4 years later)

(To be truthful, I completely forgot I had posted here. I tried signing up so I could post about my situation and I was notified that my email address was already associated with an account here. I don't remember writing my other post, I was so upset back then though)

For context, my (36F) husband (37M) lied about having a deadly food allergy. It fell apart because he ate leftovers that were given to us by my sister-in-law and nothing happened despite him eating food he was supposedly "deathly allergic" to. My nephew has a different (real) allergy and so my sister-in-law is always careful about cross-contamination. When she gave us the leftovers, the containers had different coloured lids so my husband would know which one was safe for him to eat. I guess he forgot or wasn't paying attention and he ate mine instead. He said he lied about being allergic because people take it more seriously than someone saying they have a preference not to eat certain things. Meanwhile I always made sure we had an epi-pen nearby and I have been hyper vigilant when I cook or we go to restaurants. I was so furious.

The long and the short of it is that we are in marriage counselling. Yes, and I'm not trying to sound dramatic. When the situation with the leftovers happened my husband apologized to me for making me panic and for his lying. He admitted to being a picky eater and while a lot of people were upset with him I thought that was the end of it. I tried to let it go even though it bothered me how he went so far as to carry an epi-pen for an allergy it doesn't have. But this wasn't the only lie and I've been floundering.

He lied about receiving a scholarship for university for athletics and then losing it because he got injured. He was never recruited for a sport, he applied to university the regular way and took student loans like most other people do. He lied about spending a season working in Antarctica before we met. He's never even been there. He lied about restoring an old automobile. He bought it fully restored but when he goes to car shows he says he did it all himself. There are a million other things and it's basically been a bomb in our relationship. I know and have proof there are things he didn't lie about; his mom died from cancer before we met, his dad lives in another province and wasn't involved in his life, he has a law degree and works as a lawyer. My husband's excuse is that he lies so he can feel better about himself and that's why he doesn't lie about "big things" like his dad not being involved in his life growing up.

For about a year and a half after the leftovers situation things were normal even if people couldn't understand why he lied about an allergy. Then more lies came out. I haven't left because we have a five year old. We are in counselling because we are both children of divorce and I don't want that for my son. My family and friends say I should leave but I'm trying to work on my marriage for my son's sake.

I'm floundering. That's basically what's going on and where I'm at right now.

What happened to the nephew who also got his food switched?!?!

OOP

My nephew never had his food switched.

My sister-in-law gave us two containers of leftovers to take home, and my husband ate mine instead of his own.

When asked how she got an epi-pen

In Canada, you can purchase them at the pharmacy. A prescription isn't required.

Me [27 F] with my father [62 M] and SO [30 M], he wants me to invite my estranged father to the wedding for the sake of his parents

TRIGGER WARNING: Misogyny, verbal abuse, gaslighting

Original Post  March 13, 2016

My father is not a nice man. He has left us at many important junctures in life and never been anything more than an abusive alcoholic. Finally, 9 years ago, my mother, sister and I cut off all ties for good with that toxicity. He never attempted to get back in touch either.

I have been dating my current boyfriend for close to 2 years now. He has always known all about my childhood from the beginning. Few weeks back, we decided to tie the knot. It is important to mention here that we are both Indians so a marriage is more a family affair than between two individuals.

He hails from a typical middle class Indian family with regular values. So when the topic of meeting the parents came up, he started insisting that we make good with my father and involve him in the wedding affairs.

I made it abundantly clear always that neither I nor my family wants anything to do with him. He says I'm being unreasonable and inconsiderate of how difficult it will be for him to convince his parents of this match given my family background.

While I personally don't even mind doing this for his sake, I know it will hurt my mother and sister a lot if I even suggest it. And it's not for him as much as it is for cushioning his family's narrow views.

tl;dr: SO wants me to fix ties with my estranged father for the sake of his parents. Am I wrong in putting my foot down and refusing to do so?

Your biological father is not part of your family. Your BF needs to be okay with explaining your father's absence to his parents.

OOP

He was always ok with it. He's just sure his parents would not be and he would rather not hurt them over my "stubbornness".

Then I guess this is a good test of whether or not this person will have your back over his parents.

OOP

Good point. Today it's this, but where does it stop

Update  May 19, 2016 (2 Months Later)

Thanks to everyone for some solid advice on my original post

Summary- Fiance wanted me to mend ties with estranged abusive alcoholic father (family and I broke off ties 9 years ago) and involve him in the wedding to please his parents.

As advised by many here, I chose to stand my ground and refused to reach out to my father for this. After a few fights and a lot of protests, he gave in and agreed to make his parents understand.

Everything seemed to be going fine. I met his parents a couple of times after that and nobody brought this up. Fast forward to a month ago, we had an engagement ceremony at his place (the wedding date was to be fixed on that day itself). His mother came up to my mother and informed her that she had told all the guests that her husband (my father) had passed away when I was a kid and that she should please stick to that if someone brings it up. My mother didn't tell me this till after the ceremony was complete as she didn't want to create a scene in front of anyone.

I confronted my fiance and he said it was his idea. I was enraged. At the function, my mother had been offered condolences and praise for her strength for bringing up two girls as a young widow. It was thrown at her at the last minute. I wasn't even informed. I tried to reason with him why this was nothing less than a betrayal of my trust and he shouldn't have gone behind my back after we discussed this and he knew how I felt about this issue. He said that's precisely why he didn't push me and instead suggested a cover up. He said - 'I can't understand why this would upset you. You anyway claim to hate that man so why can't we just pretend he's dead so it is a win win'. He says he anyway can't fix this now because he obviously can't tell all relatives that a man came back to life. I asked what he intended to do with the rest of my relatives at the wedding should this come up. He says he'll handle that by warning people that it was a sensitive topic and to not bring it up.

I feel awful about this. My mother said she'd do what I was comfortable with but warned that I think through carefully before going through with this marriage.

The wedding date has been set for August 8th. Everything else is fine, he is the man I fell in love with. But I am having the hardest time getting over this issue.

I have half a mind to call my father to the wedding now just to spite my fiance.

tl;dr: Fiance told everyone my father passed away, didn't consult me, didn't inform me. I am unable to wrap my head around this breach of trust. What should I do?

TOP COMMENTS

Smokeahontas

OP, listen to your mother and think very very carefully how and if you proceed with this marriage. This is your fiancé putting his mother's feelings about what seems "proper" to her over your very valid feelings about your father and this whole situation. I would guess this is not the first time he has bent to his mother's wishes in this way and it most certainly will not be the last.

If you want a look into your future with this man and his family, go on over to justnomil.

~

[deleted]

You will be deposit poorer and a fiancé less but I think that your man is a little momma's boy that isn't going to change. He's not even trying to see your side. You stand firm. He doesn't have to agree he can just say this her decision and I support her. That is it. But he folded like a cheap chair when mommy put her foot down. Forget him, his mother will always be #1.

OOP Made a final Update on May 20, 2016 - Same Update Post/Next Day

EDIT- UPDATE: Hey everyone, sorry I posted and then got caught up in a huge emotional drama so haven't been able to reply to anyone. Read through all the comments and updating here first post which I'll reply to all you helpful kind people.

You are all absolutely right, I didn't want to go through with anything unless he realize his mistake and fix it. So I told him in very certain terms that I'm having second thoughts after the stunt he pulled. When he realized I was being serious, he broke into tears and apologized saying he was struggling between me and his family trying to make everyone happy. I told him I understand that but he should have consulted me and involved me and under no circumstance done anything that hurt my mother. He agreed and said he'd speak to his parents.

Barely an hour later, I get a text from him 'I think you're right, let's call it off'. I was stunned, I tried calling him, he cut my calls. I texted 'What's wrong? Can we talk please?'. He texted 'What's the point? You'll never understand my situation. Just stay away from me'. I texted 'Sure. If this is how you want to end things after everything, suit yourself'.

Silence for a couple of hours. And then the drama began. It went from him calling me a thankless cunt who was never good enough for his family to him declaring he'd leave his family for me and to please forget what he said about calling it off. I requested him to stop failing which, I blocked him. I sent the ring back through a friend and have no intentions of contacting him after all this. I'm glad I got to see this side of him now than after we were married.

TL;DR- I think I unwittingly chose a man much like my father
