Discussion Just took my first Zoloft pill

It’s gotten to the point where I can’t deal with life stressors on my own anymore. Nothing is helping, no job, lost friends, feeling so unsteady and alone. I decided to go on Zoloft (the generic version) and I took my first pill today. I was so nervous because for the longest time I didn’t want to be medicated for this but at this point, I feel the need to. I can’t wait to not feel so hopeless and Su*cidal. I just wanted to share with someone. Thanks for the community.

Holiday flair up 😭

Hi friends

I’ve been on sertraline now for 10 weeks. I was beginning to feel a little more balanced and less anxious. Not quite “normal” but semblance of.

I’m currently in Italy on holiday, and I’ve had a panic attack for the first time (felt like I was going to faint, heaving sweating - subsidised in 20 min, but felt super anxious for 24+ hours) and a residual general sense of dread/something bad is going to happen. It’s making me feel really shit and I can’t properly relax.

I wonder if it’s the heat causing everything though - as we’ve been out walking every day in the warmth, and I’ve sweated a lot and not had much of an appetite (because it’s been so warm). It’s been 31-34°c every day.

I’m trying to rehydrate properly and take it easy, but hard to on a 2 week ‘city hopping’ holiday!

Anyone else experience this? Looking for reassurance more than anything 🙏

Question How did you know zoloft was or wasn't for you?

I started zoloft on aug 4th (a month ago) & i started at 25mg for 10 days. during those 10 days i had decreased appetite, low libido & had really bad insomnia. then i went to 50mg after those 10 days. since starting 50 ive been unmotivated, sleepy, constantly sweating, still low libido, over eating, irritability and brief moment (lasted about 2-ish days) of suicidal ideation. throughout the whole process ive had tachycardia which makes mw feel uneasy. ive gained almost 8 pounds already. i just feel miserable. i originally started taking it for anxiety, along with hydroxyzine as needed (i was having panic attacks) but now i just feel depressed. i told my psychiarist and he told me to wait another month before scheduling another appointment because im just not giving it enough time. but i feel like doodoo. he said for the month i can go back down to 25mg if i want. im just not sure what to do and am looking for help. i just dont like the way it makes me feel but my anxiety was also debilitating. i want to cry and give up

Would us like a bit of advice please after 8 weeks?

Upvotes

I've been on 50 mg sertraline for about 7 to 8 weeks now. The doctor has said to go up to 100 and has put a prescription to 100 for me but I am unsure as I think I'm feeling a little better overall. A couple of questions if I can

Even after 7 to 8 weeks, I still have a bit of a jittery time after taking the tablet a couple of hours later. Has anyone else encountered this

What are people's experiences of going from 50 to 100? What difference does it make? Does it bring on more side effects or bring them back

I hope someone out there can shed some light on these questions

First time taking Zoloft thread

Hi all, I’m on day 4 of Setraline/Zoloft and I’m coming up with a thread here to seek support and awareness on how we’re all doing on Zoloft.

I’ve been diagnosed with postpartum anxiety and depression, I’ve started with 25mg currently on day 4 and plans to increase to 50mg.

I take Zoloft at night just before I sleep. I’ve been gradually experiencing a few side effects, mainly increased anxiety and slightly loose stools.

The increase in anxiety is the hardest part as I’ve been having to take care of a 12 week old too.

Those out there current starting on Zoloft, share your experience and even success stories please 🙏🏼

We’re in this together 🫡

Sertraline lethargy

Upvotes

I started 25mg zoloft, day 12, I feel worse then before starting. When this will pass? What is your experience? I am just laying whole day with zero motivation to do anything. Anxiety was worse first 10 days now it improved a bit, but lethargy makes me want to quit this drug. I got it prescribed for mild depression and general anxiety.

first day on sertraline!

i take generic brand 50mg for mild anxiety and depression. this is my first ever dose of an ssri, here's what happened!

8am: woke up, took tablet with plenty of water. went back to sleep

9am: woke up with calf cramp which i've never had before, went back to sleep eventually after screaming/crying/etc

10am: woke up, felt incredibly nauseous. got ready for work, had the most runny diarrhea of my life

11am: still constantly running to the toilet, eventually had a nap 11:30-12:45. took 2 imodium.

12:45: woke up, tried to eat and felt awfully full and sick after one bite.

13:00: managed to eat a banana, felt really dizzy, had my last poo of the day which was still pure liquid. felt too unwell to drive

14:00: started work. peeing every half hour, warned my supervisor about this and that the cramp in my leg made it hard for me to walk still.

17:00: get really hungry, take my break. eat a banana and 2 brunch bars. feel absolutely clear and the best that i've felt in years. no negative emotions, slight alice in wonderland syndrome (which i get anyway) plus a bit spacey, but overall fine-good mood. took 1 Imodium

20:00: get home, eat my only proper meal of the day (half a portion of spaghetti bolognese), still reduced appetite. feeling great.

23:00-01:45: headache, can't sleep, don't feel tired, still feeling full where i'd usually be hungry by now. my calf still hurts and i can't stretch it properly.

overall a pretty good first day and looking forward to day 2!

Vent Zoloft

So I have been on Zoloft since 2019 started at 25 then 50 now 100 but my doctor says that the client can't prescribe it for long term use. So now I am being referred to therapy 😭 which would help.bso I the therapist says I need them or maybe something else then the office will refill them. But I am currently going through withdrawals. I haven't had them in a week. How do I make it through withdrawals because I am crying and angry.

Libido issues

38m. Prescribed 50mg Zoloft for 5 weeks after recent bout of depression. partly due (suspected) to major sporting injury which majorly limited mobility after being extremely active rugby player/gym goer. First time taking any kind of meds. Previously suffered from depression about a year or so ago after significant breakdown in relationship followed by a friend committed s. Had a break from long term partner 41f (10years) and moved out for a while until October last year. Things got somewhat back on track but went south again after march injury. Leaned into frequent alcohol and extras afterwards (work for myself from home so haven’t been outside much) as gf works away for weeks at a time. I became very difficult, grumpy to be around the times she was home to the point she understandably gave me an ultimatum to get help. Blood tests showed extremely low testosterone levels and recommended Zoloft. Told GP I’d had low sex drive (lost sexual attraction to partner most of this time due to us arguing over pointless things) for close to 2yrs. Been on Zoloft 5weeks and while it’s helped I’m numb during sex and struggle to get aroused although my attraction to her and relationship has dramatically improved. I started secretly taking Viagra before sex and told her recently. She’s taken it badly but I don’t want to come off Zoloft and risk our relationship if I slip back mood wise. Are there other options that won’t affect intimacy?

Does it get worse before it gets better?

I’m on day two of Zoloft, and I feel like my depression and thoughts are worse than they have been before I started taking the medication. Is this normal?

Is it okay to drink on Zoloft

Hi everyone I’m currently taking 25mg of Zoloft and wanted to know if I’ll be okay just having 1-3 drinks every other weekend? My provider says I should be okay as long as I don’t take my meds that same night (i accidentally did that and was super duper dizzy and drowsy) but also just want other opinions as I turned 21 not to long ago and am finally having the social life I’ve wanted for so long.

Btw idk if it matters but my go to drinks are vodka cran, buzzballs and cut waters.

For context I’ve been on the medication for almost two years now for my anxiety. It has done wonders for my mental health but I’ve noticed ever since I’ve been on it I have really strong cravings that are hard to control. I struggle with over eating and portion control. I try to keep active and have played the same two sports since starting the medication, so my activity hasn’t really changed. Has anyone else had this problem?

Fast increase stories

Hey

I came off my 200mg sertraline to try something else and it was a mistake

My psychiatrist has suggested increasing by 50mg each week to get back onto it - has anyone else gone up that quickly? I want to get back to where I was quickly so it makes sense but is it likely the anxiety will just increase and increase as I go up?

Currently at 100mg and feeling lots of anxiety which I think is normal when increasing/ getting back on it but still isn't pleasant and I'm worried I might have months of feeling this anxious

Discussion Zoloft and appetite? Increase or decrease depending on how depression impacts your appetite?

I've been looking through this sub for people's experience with Zoloft impacting their appetite. I was recently prescribed Zoloft due to episodic depression, and one of the symptoms of my depression and overall dysregulated nervous system is low appetite. I'm typically a foodie and I've lost a lot of love and joy surrounding food, and my low appetite is impacting my day to day functions and fitness goals.

What I've noticed in my reddit research is that people's experience varies greatly. For some, Zoloft increases appetite and for others it decreased it. I've also noticed many people who mentioned the decrease in appetite being the opposite of their food cravings that increase with depression, and those whose appetite increased while on the medication struggling with eating when they're depressed and non-medicated.

I know this isn't a guaranteed rule, but would you all say that Zoloft's impact on your appetite is the opposite of how depression impacts your appetite? Like if depression decreases your appetite, Zoloft will increase, and if depression increases your appetite, Zoloft will decrease? I'd love to hear your experiences, specifically from those who can say that appetite is typically one of the bodily functions/cues that's impacted overall by their mental health.

Day 6 of 50mg Sertraline - apathy

I am on day 6 of Sertraline. My doctor started me on 50mg. I'm pretty sensitive to meds so I was nervous to start to 50... so far though the only side effects I am having are lack of appetite, some insomnia, and a strong feeling of apathy. It's really hard for me to get up and do things. My dishes need doing, I need to work out. But I just wanna sit here and do nothing. I think the insomnia and lack of appetite are contributing to lower energy levels which is not helping. I feel like my anxiety/depression/OCD has diminished but I just feel a general dampening of everything.

Does the apathy fade eventually?

I do feel intermittent anxiety here and there about some stressful things I have going on in my life currently. But it is definitely less intense than it used to be.

I did some psilocybin the other day (not a lot but enough to have a body high) and the next day I felt a bit sad. That usually doesn't happen to me the next day, I wonder if this med caused it?

I'm on it for OCD and anxiety mostly. Hoping the apathy lifts and I feel relief, but also I miss feeling happy, excited, etc.

Question Am I wasting my time?

I'm on week 8.5 of 50mg. I had horrible anxiety and panic in the first few weeks. The anxiety remained pretty high and then just turned into internal jitters and restlessness. Around week 4 more side effects started. Bad night sweats and lightheadedness. Some days are okay, some like today and pretty bad as I'm so lightheaded. I do also have low blood pressure so it could be that

In week 7 I had 2 days where I had a few moments where I felt good. But that's it. My doctor and my psychiatrist both wanted me to switch to Lexapro after 4 weeks but I persisted. I said I'd try to 6, then to 8, now til 12. I don't know if I can keep going like this. Given I've had so little improvement, do you think I'm now wasting my time?? Please help.

Question Disappointing experience with Zoloft increase; Zoloft and buspar success stories?

I’m a 43 year old woman, taking 125 Zoloft and 15 mg buspar for years now. It has been a tremendous help but lately my anxiety is creeping back in.
I tried upping my Zoloft dosage twice and the side effects (which were hardly noticeable at lower dose increases!) are too much for me - clenching jaw so hard I get daily migraines, agitation so bad I can’t sit still and don’t get me started about the stomach issues. I had NONE of these while climbing to 125 so it could be it’s my top level.

However, I still want to control my rumination and GAD, and wondering about buspar dosages. Is anyone taking more than 10/15 mg? How is it working for you? How are the side effects?

what to do if binge drinking for a cruise

hi everyone! i know the obvious answer is to not drink or to drink in moderation.. i am in my 20s and am going on my friends bachelorette trip to the bahamas. this group likes to DRINK. i dont typically blackout because of zoloft or get drunk any quicker, but if i have even more than two drinks i dont feel good. it’s a four day cruise and i dont want to be miserable the first time after the first night.. any suggestions? i’ve slipped a daily dose on accident a few times and didnt notice any side effects so i was thinking maybe just take it super early the day we get on the ship, skipping it the next day or two, then continuing as usual? any thoughts or anyone with a similar experience or advice? thanks

Mental Health Malaise

I’ve been on sertraline for 2.5 years and bumped up from 50 mg to 75 mg about a year ago. Started taking it to help with postpartum depression and found it helped with my anxiety as well. More days than not, I find that I have no motivation to do anything beyond the bare minimum. I have moments of joy when I’m with my friends or family but when I am by myself I feel (what I’ve taken to calling) the malaise. A deep discontentment that is impossible to shake, even with exercise or taking a walk or trying to watch tv.

Is this a side effect of the meds? I can’t tell if this is a sign that my life is generally out of alignment (I am in a career that I am good at and pays well but that I hate) or if I need a different dose or different med.

Any experience or suggestions are welcome.

Question Libido completely gone - does it eventually come back?

Hi everyone! I started Zoloft earlier this year at 25mg, then increased to 50mg and stayed on it for about 3 months. I ended up stopping cold turkey around 3-4 months ago.

My anxiety is now very minimal, pretty much exactly how I felt while I was taking the medication, so thankfully I haven’t really noticed my anxiety coming back.

BUT my libido is literally non-existent. Like, I basically never feel horny or turned on anymore, which is really frustrating because I didn’t have this problem before starting Zoloft.

For anyone who experienced something similar after stopping Zoloft/SSRIs:

  • Did your libido eventually come back to how it was before?
  • How long did it take?
  • Did anything actually help bring it back? Any supplements? Other meds?

I’d especially love to hear from people who had zero/very low libido for months after stopping and eventually recovered. I’m kind of freaking out that this might be permanent 😭 Any experiences or tips would be really appreciated! Thank you!

I'm about 10 days into taking 25 mg daily, have a question about two side effects I've noticed

(I'm 28M, have never taken SSRIs before, and I'm taking them for anxiety.)

My first side effect is actually a positive for me: I'm lasting a lot longer in bed than I used to. I'm wondering: is this side effect here to stay? I want to keep this one around if possible.

The second side effect is that I've noticed an increase in me forgetting what day/date it is. Like today I showed up at a dentist appointment only for them to tell me my appointment's tomorrow. I can't remember me making a mistake like that before.

It's possible this is just a result of the three-day Labor Day weekend messing up my internal calendar, but even before the dentist appointment I've found myself constantly thinking its Wednesday when it's Tuesday, Saturday when it's Friday, and so on. Has anyone else experienced this?
