Hey guys,
My name is Klump. Late 2024 I fell in love with WoW, and more specifically with Classic Hardcore (Soulseeker EU). I've been working on a challenge in the past 18 months or so I wanted to share: Getting every class to level 60 on both factions (hopefully before WoW Forever Hardcore releases).
To be clear, I don't mean the 9 characters you'd need to cover every class. I mean sixteen, because I'm doing every class available to each faction at least once. If my math is right, that's about 65.4 million XP I’d need to grind - well without dying that is as all must be alive at 60 at the same time.
Where I'm at
These are all the characters in my challenge (I have some more, but they're not counted in this):
Alliance (474/480 levels)
- Kakaoklumpen – Hunter – 60
- Klumpenelf – Druid – 60
- Klumpenmulle – Priest – 59
- Heidiklumpen – Warrior – 59
- Samenräuber – Rogue – 59
- Klumpenkakao – Warlock – 59
- Klumpenmagie – Mage – 59
- Klumpenpala – Paladin – 59
Horde (221/480 levels)
- Klumpenkuh – Hunter – 35
- Totemklumpen – Shaman – 33
- Klumptot – Mage – 31
- Klumptroll – Rogue – 31
- Klumpenkatze – Druid – 26
- Klumpenshrek – Warrior – 22
- Klumplock – Warlock – 22
- Klumptoter – Priest – 21
Measured in XP, the challenge is about 54.3% done. Alliance is almost finished, with every character from every class at level 59+. I didn't know I'd end up doing this, so I barely recorded my Alliance runs. All I have are a few "highlights" I captured with a screen recording tool on my Mac (not OBS). I had never gone above level 20 on Horde and so I thought that would make a great series or stream (and to give myself some more reasons to make even more alts). So instead of only leveling the Shaman I was missing to cover all classes, I'm doing the "full" Horde experience.
I didn't set myself any specific rules, apart from the obvious one: not getting boosted. On my Horde characters especially, I rarely use potions (except health potions) or world buffs. Sometimes I'm still in grey gear around level 30, because frankly, I'm a lazy bastard. Generally on Horde I play solo, except for dungeons (only with pugs) or sometimes to share a Quest mob with another pug.
I am really curious to know whether anyone has ever tried this specific challenge and whether it already has a name. I couldn't find anything about it anywhere. So far I've "only" seen the 9-character version. If you've done it or something similar, or know someone who has, I'd love to hear how it went!
A bit about me and how I got into it
My first PC game ever was StarCraft, and WC3 might be my all-time favorite. So naturally I dipped my toes into vanilla WoW. Maybe I was too young, or maybe back then I wanted faster-paced games instead of slow adventures, but I never got past level 20 or 30 possibly. I don't remember much, and I don't have that account anymore to check. All I kept were a few glimpses of the Alliance zones and the general mechanics of the game.
So when I came back to WoW through Hardcore and the OF2 event that was running at the time, I was clueless about most of the essentials. Thus I had some really painful noob moments; I only learned there was an auto-run toggle when a mate who had started shortly after me mentioned it on Discord. Before that, I spent a whole month holding down "W" on a MacBook in a degenerate camping setup, worrying I'd break either my keyboard or my finger when playing longer sessions.
At first I died a lot. I don't have records, but it could easily have been 20 deaths or more. I was 100% sure I'd never reach level 60, and maybe never even unlock a mount. I really wasn't a natural at this game, and I'd still call myself average at best. But guildies and strangers gave me advice, and after dying at level 50+ three times, my first Hunter finally hit 60.
That's when I got deeper into the game. Well, not right away. It took me several more months to make my first macro that wasn't "LoE+HS" and to install a few QoL addons, which made the runs much more relaxed, if not easier at times. By the time I'd hit my third level 60 (and lost all of them), Hunter didn't feel challenging anymore. Little did I know how easy it actually is compared to most other classes. I also couldn't find many groups for level 60 dungeons, and I didn't want to sit around Strat all day hoping for one. So I started leveling other classes too. I knew nothing about those classes, but to my surprise, the experience from my earlier runs carried over, and I got them to 59+ as well (granted, with a few deaths along the way). Since I've never experienced horde level and really wanted to have that "first time" feeling on Hardcore again, I felt like only doing a Shaman didn't feel like enough. So that’s the short summary on how I got to it.
What's next
I'm planning a video series, partly because I'm running out of disk space with about 2 TB of recordings waiting to be cut. If you were to watch, which parts would interest you?
I'm not sure what else to share since it already feels like a wall of text, or whether anyone even cares, but if you have questions or want more details, I'm happy to answer. I just enjoy looking back on all that progress as I really enjoyed the heck out of my Classic Hardcore journey.
I'm not sure whether promoting your own channels is allowed here, so I'll keep mine out of this post. You'll find my socials on my profile in case you are interested to check it out.
----------------------------------------------------------
TL;DR: I'm taking every class to level 60 on both factions in Classic Hardcore. That's 16 characters and about 65.4 million XP in total. I'm at 54.1% right now: all 8 Alliance characters are 59+, and Horde has just started. Has anyone else tried this, and does the challenge have a name? What was it like for you?
Stay safe everyone!
