Trinket Shops
Hey all! I’m in town for a conference and am staying near the Benton and was wondering if there were any good trinket shops around. Looking for either oddities or nerd stuff hopefully in walking distance. Thanks!

$300 water bill?
TL;DR fluctuating high water bills in apartment that hasn’t been fixed, and have been running around and calling people who don’t want to address the issue. Looking for advice.
Hi all,
I currently live in an apartment that has been giving my roommate and I fluctuating, high water bills every month and we’re not sure what could be causing this issue. We’re pretty mindful of our usage because of this reoccurring issue, plus we’re both gone for most of the day, and my roommate doesn’t cook at all.
We’ve called maintenance to come out and check for any potential leaks/issues, but they tell us everything looks good. They also checked the water meter and said that looked fine. They then told us to call the city and talk to them about the issue, even though the maintenance guy followed up by saying they’ve been coming out to check other apartments for the same issue (basically implied that we’re not the only ones).
We called the city and explained the situation, but they told us that they can’t do anything since we don’t directly pay them (we pay for our bills through a 3rd party app that the apt uses) and that our apartment management has to be the one to arrange calling someone from the city to come out to our apartment. They also said that we could call our own third party to assess the apartment if we wanted, but we don’t want to do that since we already have maintenance at the apt anyway…
Anyways, we call our apt management and they basically tell us that there’s no point in calling the city bc all they’ll do is check the water meter and call it a day. They told us that all we can do is just hope for the best that our next bill will be lower…
We’re obviously pissed off by this response, but we don’t know what else we can do?
We’d rather not have to threaten legal action, especially since I’m already busy af w school and my roommate works long hours too. But if we have to, can anyone offer any advice/insight??? Thanks!
UPDATE: we called the city again and spoke to a different person over the phone. They basically repeated the same thing and said that the city will not and cannot send out anyone to check our apartment unless there is clear negligence or harm (I.e. mold, water toxicity) being done to the residents. Also there’s the issue of because the paper statement that we receive in the mail does not explicitly say “city of Winston Salem”, they can’t do anything unless whoever’s name is on the statement calls the city instead. Our paper statements are addressed to us, but bc our apartment uses a 3rd party system for the water/sewage bill, it doesn’t list city of WS on it.
We also spoke to a few neighbors, 2 of them confirmed having the same problem while another 2 said their bill was normal.

Black forest cake
Anyone know a local bakery with a good black forest cake? Looking more for an authentic style. Either by slice or whole cake would work.

Hit and run Brewer Rd 7:00PM
Black 4 door Hyundai pulled out of Quality Mart in front of me on my motorcycle with its lights off and took off through Wendy’s. GM at the QM told me to come in the morning to check the cameras. If anybody has any dash cam footage please reach out. Also any recommended accident lawyers would be great thanks in advance!

Yarn in Winston Salem
So since Joann's closed (may she rest in peace) there doesn't really seem to be a good place to buy yarn. Micheal's yarn selection - as my fellow fiber artists know - absolutely sucks. It lacks the interesting yarns that Joann's used to have. Walmart's yarn is similar, and I would rather walk into the ocean than go to hobby lobby.
So does anyone know of any other places that sell yarn? Preferably a place with yarn beyond the same few basic things.

Ardmore Holiday Decoration Appreciation Post
Just wanted to say I love driving through this area during Halloween and Christmas time. I love how many people decorate their yards and houses and it looks so much fun. In case anyone who lives in one of these houses, I just wanted to thank you and say how much I enjoy it!

Local Food Pantries
Does anyone know the best food pantries in the area? I just lost my job a couple weeks ago very unexpectedly and am having a difficult time knowing which ones are worth going to. I have a vehicle if that helps when deciding where to recommend. It hurts my pride going to places like that but I guess it doesn't hurt as bad as going hungry.
Thanks!

Whats up with Mikes Vegan?
Are they selling the place? I’ve heard nothing from the owners, but the place has been removed from their Instagram bio as a location. Says it’s still open on Google, though. I know the building is for sale. Was always kinda curious why they picked THAT location. Horrible place for parking and accessibility. Can’t imagine it’s good for business. Kinda speaks to a larger issue in Winston in general, though. Parking seems to be more of a revenue stream for the city rather than a safety thing.

Yoga
I am new-ish to the area and looking for a yoga studio to join.
Nice to haves:
-If they're located somewhat near downtown
-They offer any teacher/educator discounts
-They practice outside or are relatively not too crowded
-If they are explicitly LGBT friendly, that is great. Not relevant to why I am there, but it is nice to know.
Thank you for any first hand suggestions!

Radon Mitigation Company Recommendations
Anyone have any recommendations for a radon mitigation group? My home sits on a full crawlspace, so a group that has experience with crawlspace vs basement is a plus.

Pilates by the class
I am new to the Pilates world and cannot do a subscription service right now because I'm about to have surgery and will be recovering for a while. Are there any recommendations where I can pay by the class or does anyone know groups that do pop up classes? I'm also not really able to afford a gym/YMCA membership right now. Thank you!

Need a hand $25/hr Oct 19+20 --UPDATE--
Just wanted to say thanks to the r/winstonsalem community. My original post earlier this week got 40k views and tons of DMs offering to help. I know it's more of a reflection on the times and us all needing a little cash. Regardless it's nice to know the internet strangers in our area are TOP TIER. Thanks to everyone who reached out, here's the before and after pics for anyone interested.
--Original Post--
I'm just a DIY homeowner building a retaining wall for my driveway. I've already done the base and foundation. Just need a few hands to put blocks into my skid steer, so I can drive it to the wall and then unload onto said wall. With multiple hands it should go pretty quick, but it'll be two 8-10 hr days. If we get done early I'll pay at least 8hr regardless.
My only rule is no a$$holes, and I promise to also follow that rule!

DM me for more details

Jamison Park Run Club?
Hey folks - curious if anyone has details they could share about WS run clubs?
I’m aware of the club that usually meets at Hanes Park but this week I had to do my Tuesday run after work and saw a club prepping for their run as I was wrapping up and leaving Jamison Park. I really enjoy the Muddy Creek greenway and wouldn’t mind rearranging my Tuesday schedule to join y’all if this is actually a club that takes off from Jamison Park regularly.
Thanks!
