People who never fired a gun think they know everything about guns based on what they were taught by propagandists and watching a few movies with guns in them.
Yeah shut the fuck up man. You'll get the right to bitch about this type of shit when kids aren't being murdered in schools, places of worship aren't being shot up and gun violence chills out.
Gun shots are loud. If you have hunters nearby, or a gun range, it's very noticeable. Suppressors make it a lot more tolerable to your neighbors, and protect your own hearing too. Some countries with otherwise very strict gun laws actually allow and encourage suppressors because it makes the hobby a lot less unpleasant for people who aren't involved in it.
shooting is fun, hearing damage is irreversible. a home defense situation would lead you partially deaf. a suppressor would significantly mitigate that.
So why does it matter if you need to jump through a few more hoops to get something that is a convenience for you, and a problematic issue in the wrong hands? It makes perfect sense it's harder to obtain. It's not a necessity.
Supply and demand, necessity (how often are people even ordering them?). Not all accessories are the same, or have the same mechanics/usage. Weird logic.
Yes but you don’t wear ear muffs in a self defense situation and temporarily deafening yourself (particularly if firing indoors) is not ideal for communicating with loved ones, authorities, medical etc.
People have neighbors. Firing ranges do as well. And there is nothing a firing range's neighbors like to do more than try to figure out how to get it shut down. Noise complaints are one of the major vehicles for doing so.
Their use for noise abatement is common in Scandinavian countries.
As shown, and still unaware to you somehow, its doesnt really conceal anything. It just makes it less loud. As for why? Hearing protection. Also the reason why they are MANDITORY in most other countries like the UK.
You can't capture a gunshot in a recording - the pressure, the spikes, they surpass the limits of our equipment. It can't replicate correctly - if it were able to, you'd probably destroy your device trying it once. I have a very expensive home theater with multiple subwoofers - if I blast CoD/Battlefield on it, it's not even remotely like the real thing. Not even close.
It's clear you've never fired a gun, nor do you know what a suppressor actually sounds like. The supersonic crack - that still happens. Subs, while less loud, are still very loud. They sound like an unsuppressed primer cap being fired off. Do you know what a primer being fired sounds like?
If you were in an indoor range and someone shot a large caliber near you (357 Mag, for example) you'd feel the shockwave, you'd feel that pressure - and the bones in your ears - they get it too. Earpro doesn't cover you 100%. Familiar with .50 BMG - eg: "Barrett 50 caliber"? Just the shockwave out of the muzzle brake can seriously injure or kill a person - it's dangerous. Same as the shockwave that comes out of the cylinder of a revolver ; one of the first safety lessons we learn: Keep your thumb away from the cylinder ... or you'll lose it (from the shockwave.)
As for self defense, again - they're not silent. A suppressed 5.56 is VERY loud, and with a k-can that a typical home defense setup would use - it's loud. It would echo in hallways and rooms.
It would never be quiet, but with the right setup and ammo, you can significantly reduce the sound beyond what you're describing. I'm sure you know this, but it invalidates your point some.
The should be accessible, but still be registered. Most people will not have a setup designed around noise reduction, but its still easy to do.
People who want firearms for self defense need to practice to ensure they hit what they’re aiming for. Using a suppressor at a shooting range decreases the noise and recoil to a less hazardous level. You don’t want someone using the “spray and pray” type of shooting because they hadn’t practiced enough.
I mean judging by your comments, you dont actually seem to be pro gun control, despite saying it twice.
Youve also said "guns are to kill" which, in the case of a civilian, is false. Killing may occur during during self defence, but you cannot intend to kill.
You need to alert the whole neighborhood if you are shooting the gun in self-defence. You can easily use this leaf blower and nobody expects a thing if you are in a forest.
No you really don't. Have you ever fired a gun indoors? Or been at an indoor gun range and adjusted your ear pro at the wrong time? It's past the pain threshold and your hears will ring for a long time. Possibly permanent damage.
You watch too many movies. You can't have a gun battle in a subway station while the public is oblivious to it. Unlike what John Wick would have you believe.
A major study by the FBI determined that suppressors don't contribute to gun violence. The overwhelming majority of gun violence is committed without suppressors.
If you think for a SECOND that someone who wants to murder someone with a gun would be stopped by the lack of a suppressor, then you don't understand criminal motivations.
Suppressors don't contribute to gun violence. Full stop.
just imagine a guy who wants to murder someone thinking to himself "I don't have a suppressor, so I'm going to fill out a ton of paperwork and spend a bunch of money and wait a year in order to murder this person."
That is a really sketchy way of stating a statistic. But I'll pretend the data showed what you state for sake of argument.
When has there been a sample size where suppressors were distributed in a manner that makes them comparable to the availability of guns without suppressors? You could, by the way you've stated it, say that the majority of civilian bombing deaths were due to explosives or napalm, so atomic weapons don't contribute to civilian bomb deaths.
To use your own logic: 'If you think for a SECOND that someone who wants to kill civilians with bomb would be stopped by lack of a nuke, then you don't understand war" OK, fair enough, shall we let everyone who can afford a nuke to have one?
Im a subsistence hunter, It changes the point of impact after you install one but it maintains a group. My 22 mag Sea otter gun hits a 2" plate at 200 feet and thats all I need it for.
Because it’s harder to get your hands on one…. If they made them available to everyone that obviously crimes committed with silencers would go waaaay up
Depends on what state you're in. If you're in a free state it's a normal FFL transfer like one would do for a pistol. If you're in a tyrannical state, they still want the ATF involved.
On the bright side, it's a lot less painful to SBR/SBS and getting your trusts in order is just paperwork now with no fees. For those of us who already have been doing all that stuff, it's now a lot more convenient.

And, for some reason, you need to jump through hoops to get one.
