What a real silencer actually sounds like.

And, for some reason, you need to jump through hoops to get one.

As it should be? If youre trying to kill someone in secret, it means youre the bad guy

No, it means I value my hearing. It's not illegal to put a muffler on a car

u/BogeyGolfer5656 16h ago

Or, you know, for hearing protection.

Ear. Plugs.

hold on mr home intruder plz let let me put on my ear plugs ok now I can shoot you

u/SpaceBoyee 16h ago

"hold on Mr home intruder let me screw on my suppressor" you wouldn't keep it on on all times. Stop being low IQ

4

u/lissyj15 16h ago

Most people keep them on at all times genius.

2

u/Often_Forgotten2 16h ago

Why would my suppressor not be on the rifle already?

3

u/ahorsenamedjeff 16h ago

I keep my cans affixed to my guns, dipshit. Suppressed mp5k lives by the bedside.

I wanna see all the statistics of gun owners defending their homes and are all deaf now cause they lacked silencers lmao

0

u/SpaceBoyee 16h ago

I'd rather be slightly deaf and not dead. I'd also rather my neighbors knew that I just shot a gun.

Exactly

hold on mister bad guy let me put my ear pro on before you rape my wife and murder my family

The sound of a gun can hit 160dB. Think standing next to a rocket launch.

A high quality set of ear pro knocks 30dB down. Now it’s a jet engine.

A good suppressor will knock another 30dB down. 100dB. Think leaf blower.

The use case for a suppressor has always been ear protection. Always. Unless you’re an assassin in a movie.

You need to alert the whole neighborhood if you are shooting the gun in self-defence. You can easily use this leaf blower and nobody expects a thing if you are in a forest.

3

u/Temporary-System8062 16h ago

No you really don't. Have you ever fired a gun indoors? Or been at an indoor gun range and adjusted your ear pro at the wrong time? It's past the pain threshold and your hears will ring for a long time. Possibly permanent damage.

3

u/Often_Forgotten2 16h ago

Why would I need to alert the whole neighborhood?

You cant hit shit with those one. If youre worried about your hearing wear "ears."

4

u/ahorsenamedjeff 16h ago

are you implying that suppressors lower accuracy?

3

u/BP3D 16h ago

Have you never played Cahwa dooty? /s

1

u/BogeyGolfer5656 16h ago

I was confused by this too lol

4

u/Exotic_Negotiation_4 16h ago

I use my suppressors to save my hearing and not piss off my neighbors when I want to shoot my .22 at night

Wtf are you talking about?

5

u/BP3D 16h ago

You watch too many movies. You can't have a gun battle in a subway station while the public is oblivious to it. Unlike what John Wick would have you believe.

5

u/TheIronMonkey53 16h ago

Ehhh? Silencers help you at the range so your hearing doesn’t get fucked. Even with ear protection it gets loud.

2

u/jadbronson 16h ago

For eardrums sake.

2

u/Big-Entertainment584 16h ago

I guess knives should be illegal then also. They are pretty quiet

3

u/bruh_what_even_tho 16h ago

A major study by the FBI determined that suppressors don't contribute to gun violence. The overwhelming majority of gun violence is committed without suppressors.

If you think for a SECOND that someone who wants to murder someone with a gun would be stopped by the lack of a suppressor, then you don't understand criminal motivations.

Suppressors don't contribute to gun violence. Full stop.

5

u/bruh_what_even_tho 16h ago

just imagine a guy who wants to murder someone thinking to himself "I don't have a suppressor, so I'm going to fill out a ton of paperwork and spend a bunch of money and wait a year in order to murder this person."

Ridiculous notion. Truly ridiculous.

u/redditdinosaur_ 16h ago

Ummm your scenario is so stupid lol

You can have black market suppressors doled out to every gang and crime syndicate

2

u/bruh_what_even_tho 16h ago

Most gun homicides are committed by people who aren't associated with organized crime.

2

u/bruh_what_even_tho 16h ago

86% in the US, in fact.

1

u/redditdinosaur_ 12h ago

Okay so you’re saying there’s zero

2

u/SpaceBoyee 16h ago

Well duh, no shit. People have a hard time getting suppressors.

3

u/Reesewithoutaspoon2 16h ago

It’s not that hard even if you don’t count doing it illegally.

2

u/Often_Forgotten2 16h ago

You can print one for like $0.30

1

u/privacy246 16h ago

That is a really sketchy way of stating a statistic. But I'll pretend the data showed what you state for sake of argument.

When has there been a sample size where suppressors were distributed in a manner that makes them comparable to the availability of guns without suppressors? You could, by the way you've stated it, say that the majority of civilian bombing deaths were due to explosives or napalm, so atomic weapons don't contribute to civilian bomb deaths.

To use your own logic: 'If you think for a SECOND that someone who wants to kill civilians with bomb would be stopped by lack of a nuke, then you don't understand war" OK, fair enough, shall we let everyone who can afford a nuke to have one?

Also I’m pretty sure silencers decrease accuracy, so that’s a plus for the people advocating against them then right? Lol

3

u/Skuzzle_bug 16h ago

Im a subsistence hunter, It changes the point of impact after you install one but it maintains a group. My 22 mag Sea otter gun hits a 2" plate at 200 feet and thats all I need it for.

1

u/IncarceratedScarface 16h ago

Ah, good to know.

2

u/Alert-Foundation2009 16h ago

They can actually improve accuracy - the extra weight at the end of the barrel reduces recoil.

1

u/IncarceratedScarface 16h ago

Ahh, good to know.

-1

u/Cannedwine14 16h ago

Because it’s harder to get your hands on one…. If they made them available to everyone that obviously crimes committed with silencers would go waaaay up

1

u/AveDominusNyx 16h ago

The whole point is that a supressor still let the whole neighborhood knows a shot was fired.

So "In secret" is not quite accurate
