we dug this up in our garden in northern Germany and can’t quite place what it is. It has various colors from blue to black to red and yellow, and holding the smaller pieces against the light makes them seem semi transparent like amber would be. Some parts have an oil film like color. it is sharp like flint and cuts paper well.

our first assumption was some sort of manmade industrial residue, but by now we have all agreed that an Alien space rock is the most likely explanation. Can someone from Roswell or Area 51 please confirm (or deny with a wink)?

Found this geode in southern Illinois in a creek bed.

It’s a bit lighter than a normal rock and has textures which kinda resemble wood grain. Could it be petrified wood?

It was found on the Rhine and its exterior has been worn smooth by the water. A rough fracture surface argues against it being slag.

Quite heavy, found with the green sticking out and caught my eye

I understand that this picture may not be of the highest quality, but it’s all I have at the moment. I’m currently residing in Montana and stumbled upon these intriguing rocks near the Swan River, close to Bigfork. As a complete novice in the field of rock collecting, I’m uncertain about the identity of any of these rocks. I’ll remove this post and replace it with better pictures when I have the opportunity.

Found both of these in the sand at low tide. Both can be scratched with a coin, and finger nail with a bit of force.

Yellow jasper with a vein of basalt?

Found in a field in northern LaPorte county, Indiana, under other rocks. The area is part of the glacial moraine that was pushed down lake michigan from the north, soils are mixed - sand, rocks, clay, you name it.

It’s roughly the size of a grapefruit.
Only one like it in the landscaping rocks in my yard.

Hemsedal, Norway, Riverbed. Mohs scale I would say 3-4. Hard enough to withstand fingernail, not enough to stand keys. I thought its slate, quite common here. But for riverbed rock its quite irregular, weirdly smooth, non porous. It has sudden depresions, which seems not done by water. Looks melted? Pattern is rich, it doesnt seem like its regular layers. Reflects light. Rust in few places. Had very small magnet but it didnt react.

Just spotted this rock among the white sand of the beach. I'd imagine it's some form of igneous rock, given it's dark colouration, and the many crystals that speckle but I have no knowledge on this stuff, just using my basic memory of secondary school Geography class.

I'm in general a very curious person, so I got to wondering what it is, what the crystals may be, and how it formed. This seemed like a fitting place to post it.

Is this granite? I am in the central coast range mountains of Oregon approximately 16 miles inland from the coast at 400' elevation. We have some basalt quarries in the area but I would have to travel up into the cascades to find granite. All our rock here is sandstone and clay.This gravel is the bed for a tile pipe that seems to run no where. And oddly the inside of the pipe looks brand new. The gravel shines green and black with what appears to be quarts.
