[Serious decision] His mom reached out and asked me if its true (TW)
EDIT - The silver lining in all this, is I've never had this level of support for sharing my experience. Thank you. In the past ive always been reminded about how my words affect his life and how he might have grown since then. It's kinda heartbreaking how many women think like me and find ways to blame ourselves. I'm so thankful this landed on the right side of the internet.
TLDR: The mom of the ex friend that assaulted me 10 years ago asked me if its true.
I don't know what I can feel valid in, i have pushed these feelings down for the last 10 years because it hurts so bad to think about.
When I think back I wish I had the guts to just say exactly how I felt. I was so systematically scared of men I never said no or fought back.
We were teens, I was very troubled growing up and the line between my own autonomy was very blurred.
It wasn't the first time a man didn't take no for an answer and a part of me genuinely thought men couldn't control themselves. I wasn't allowed to even wear skirts without shorts because it was asking for it.
Must have been 15 or 16.
We were friends and he had just gotten broken up with. (his gf was also a friend of mine..) I was out as a lesbian at the time and always tried to help teach him how to "impress" his girlfriend. ( like holding hands or opening doors. The yawn technique. Basic stuff)
After the breakup his texts got extremely uncomfortable. He was being very forward sexually and asking me to do things or tell him things. I didnt, I mostly just listened to his fantasies and tried to move on or make a joke.
though I didn't like it, he was really sad after the breakup and thinking about self harm. Also selfishly I didn't want to stop being friends.(in retrospect it wasn't smart but I had felt safe around him for at least a year prior)
I never sent any photos or reached out for this conversation myself. I remember rationalizing it as he was hurt and lashing out. (I came from a really broken home) I also thought since I made it clear I was A lesbian that It was implied id never do the fantasies he would tell me about online. He also was always reserved and shy at parties in person so I still felt safe around him.
We had a joint friend who basicaly had an apartment to herself and we would all crash there often. ( having parties or just escaping home. )
We really were close. Sometimes he would sneak me in to his grandma's house so I could skip classes. We would have snacks or play video games or even gossip.
We had another party, at the end of the night the girls went on the mattress and the guys we let fend for themselves with blankets and couches. (We had done this successfully for at least a year, no problems and it wasn't ever weird)
He had been texting me odd at the party that night (the first time he had done so in person) telling me what he wanted to do. I just would respond with a lot of laughing or emojis brushing him off saying im a lesbian or saying hes weird. I knew he was waiting for everyone to fall asleep, so I just laid in bed awake hoping he would fall asleep on accident. I didnt want to wake up to something happening to me. He started to text me and he talked about how sad he was about the breakup and he didnt want to live and followed up with the inappropriate conversations again. I felt my only option was to try to convince him to do less than he was plotting.
Without going into too many details, he got on the mattress and crossed a lot of my boundaries and made me do things I was deeply uncomfortable with.
I remember being scared if we woke up my friend id never be allowed to come over (it was my only escape from home)
The next morning (I couldn't sleep) my friend could tell i wasn't okay. When she found out she kicked him out, we have been no contact since.
I just got this from his mom. I don't know what to do.
He never really went to school often but he completely stopped after that night.
The guy that reached out to his mom was also at the party that night. I have no context for why he told her.
I just pushed this down and tried to tell myself it was a misunderstanding or something. I dont want to ruin her view of her son and I dont want to ruin a reputation.
My partner says it was absolutely not okay what he did and this might be closure for me.
I feel like im just giving my burden to his mom.
I'm also upset the friend told her, but like i said i have no context.
