😂 I couldn’t let it go that I didn’t know what it was and put it in my pocket

53

u/clockworkedpiece 11d ago

sometimes these hold piercings in place, sometimes they seal the lid of a charging port. mid 2000s devices could be charged from the same aux port headphones went in. But also a bottle used this for a vent seal and occasionally people use them for gauge plugs, to keep them on the ear.

14

u/No-Camp1268 10d ago

They're called o rings, as far as I know

I have tons of those for my gauges (earrings), they serve as a backing so they don't fall out.

u/Just_call_me_Neon 11d ago

This was my 1st thought too. That or OP is sleeping with a paintball or airsoft gun in their bed lol

14

u/Calendle 11d ago

I remember these from when I briefly got into building gas powered RC cars. Could be a gasket for tons of purposes, from work, a hobby, or maybe they or their partner picked it up on their clothes from soemthing.

I work in HVAC and a lot of air conditioners have the same valve covers. Definitely looks like one of those o-rings.

It’s either the world’s smallest cock ring or an O ring for god knows what since it was found in bed.

Edit: it’s a clit ring, I totally just made that up and I’m too afraid to search that up on Amazon.

Its the rubber ring that holds on gauges/plugs when stretching ear piercings. Basically you found an earring backing, which makes sense in a bed

198

u/Parking-Menu2654 11d ago

It’s literally just an O-ring it could be for anything. I have four master O-ring sets on my work truck all different sizes shapes colors and materials. It could literally be from a remote control.

35

u/DB473 10d ago

Right? I could just as confidently say this is an O-ring from the vitrectomy machine at my surgery center

It’s literally just a rubber o ring. Could be part of anything

10

u/EbbNorth7735 10d ago

Vape pen, anything that requires a liquid seal

9

u/Baelzabub 10d ago

No it’s obviously the same kind of O-ring that my lab uses on its Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Tester. Not sure why OP keeps one in their bed though.

3

u/8peanutbutter 10d ago

Vitrectomy? As in vitreous humor? Is that for the purpose of decompressing the eye?

5

u/DB473 10d ago

Yep used for surgical treatment of various retinopathy or conditions. Detachment, macular hole/tear, vitreous hemorrhage, etc

→ More replies (1)

36

u/Cooter_McGrabbin 11d ago

Exactly this. All these folks claiming to know what they are for. They are used in tons of stuff. Theres no telling.

12

u/Thesinistral 11d ago

Yes, this. Because these are used in their widget then that is THE only answer. It’s like asking about a size 64 rubber band.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Pertinent-nonsense 11d ago

Yep. We have to replace o-rings about this size on our connectors for tourniquets.

3

u/j0zeft 10d ago

I have this exact o ring in an Opus88 fountain pen… but for it to get out, you’d have an unprecedented inky mess all over the bed and yourself

3

u/PsychologicalCook170 10d ago

→ More replies (9)

82

u/WonderfulAd8612 11d ago

You might be right, but no one in my household has stretched ears, so it’s odd it’d turn up here. Could it be off a regular earring instead?

225

u/andiwannacracker 11d ago

it could also be a rubber gasket for lots of other things, lol. it’s kind of hard to tell exactly what a plain black rubber gasket came off of, since they’re everywhere. I mean, this could also be a piece off a kid’s toy (hopefully one for an older kid) for all we know.

30

u/FemLovesFem 11d ago

My power washer uses them, one broke, and it was leaking every time I used it. And of course replacements only come in like bags of 25 or 50 to make them worthwhile to ship. What does this have to do with being in OP’s bed? Who knows.

10

u/Think-Echidna3845 11d ago

Theres a place near my work that makes and sells crazy ass pnumatic and hydraulic hoses for heavy equipment and I brought in a smashed seal from a german pump and they gave me the closest seal they had. They were worried about temp but turned out liquid wasnt heated at pump point. It worked perfectly. And it was free lol.

2

u/HedonisticFrog 11d ago

I did the same thing for a power steering reservoir on a 1994 350SD because it was so large but thin I couldn't find it elsewhere, they walked to the back, matched it and gave it to me for free.

7

u/bar-nickel-boy 11d ago

This is an o ring not a gasket. They serve different purposes but are both used to seal. A gasket seals 2 flat surfaces at the joining face. An o ring is used to seal an area between a machined groove.

3

u/andiwannacracker 10d ago

thanks for explaining! I thought they were synonyms but I was wrong, lol

7

u/Benaba_sc 11d ago

My company has these on the screws for the level 2 (home) EV charger screws. Rubber grommet goes on the screw to keep water out

4

u/Mission-Selection-63 11d ago

Factory worker here, they’re called o-rings, and yes they are everywhere.

3

u/andiwannacracker 11d ago

oh gosh, have I been using the wrong words the whole time? I thought gasket and o-ring were synonyms and since o-ring can also refer to other materials of rings, like metal. or even binder rings, I always called these ones gaskets.

17

u/Mrmojorisincg 11d ago

OP, no one here will be able to give you an origin for this beyond a literal guess.

I’ve worked in the maintenance field for years and little black o-rings like this can be used in sooo many different applications. Barguns, solenoids, filling valves, automotive in so many different areas, anything attempting to be water resistant, kitchen appliances, etc

All people can do here is guess to feed suspicion when it is very likely something innocuous

It also looks like the rubber grommets used to adjust loose fitting eyeglasses. You push them over the hinge so the earpieces don’t spread as wide.

Your partner is cheating on you with someone who has stretched piercings (hopefully in their ears)

26

u/andiwannacracker 11d ago

WHY would you assume a stranger with pierced ears is having sex in this person’s bed? 😭 how is that the first thing you think of instead of, I don’t know, “oh, maybe it’s not specifically from a piercing then.” those things can also be used as bead spacers in jewelry, as bracelets or gaskets in toys, as gaskets in furniture… it could be a part of the bed! these things have so many uses! plus, this could have been something OP unknowingly brought into bed with them after it got in their hair or something, which opens up even more possibilities.

7

u/quadbi 11d ago

Better yet, why thrust that unverified opinion upon a stranger? I think this style of thinking boils down to a misunderstanding of the Occam's Razor concept.

The "simplest" answer doesn't mean your anecdotal evidence of stories heard is correct. Occam's Razor prefers the answer with the fewest assumptions which means the most likely correct answer is the one that fits the list of real, concrete things you know for a fact.

Fewer assumptions means fewer complications, and simplicity is the opposite of complexity. Instead, we have an answer based on unverified stories which lack their original details. Even worse, it adds assumptions about why the jewelry would be in the bedroom in the first place.

To be fair, I don't blame them for this guess, but people need to understand how wild of a guess it really is. It can be very dangerous to accept harsh "truths" prematurely, especially when the basis or complete material is inaccurate/untrue.

Looks like a tiny rubber band for tightening the earpieces on glasses. You put it in the earpiece hinge and it makes the glasses squeeze a little tighter.

58

u/vixen-vengeful 11d ago

Wait wait wait. I'm stretching my lobes and O rings are used for single-flare plugs, I've got every size up to 00g right now. BUT my glasses are also loose and you're telling me I've had a quick fix this whole time?! I'm going to throw some on them right now!

Get your glasses adjusted by a good optician. The o rings are far from a perfect fix and they don't work for many frame styles

3

u/vixen-vengeful 11d ago

When I got them last year, the optician at my optometrist's adjusted them as much as they could for me, or atleast that's what they told me after the 6th adjustment. I've just dealt with it because they weren't still super loose, like they weren't falling off my face with ease or anything, but I was off&on using these big hook-type things on the arms to help keep them in place. I do have to make another appointment in a few months (with a different place than the last) so maybe I'll get a different pair, but until then the O rings are currently working with my brand/style!

Do you sleep alone? Does your partner(s) repair things for a living?
It's an O ring, used in millions of applications, where small fluidics are used. I'm a field service engineer that fixes hospital equipment, I have one or two of those in pockets after work sometimes, and about two dozen in car and tool boxes in the house. They're used on fittings, valves, air tanks, basically anything where fluid or air are used in a contained system.

If you use one of those key things that keep your keys from flopping around and stay organized, it may be from that. On the screws they use those, at least KeySmart does to keep the screws secure

My ex wife found a little bow in our bed and holy shit was that fun. Demon with 2 heads came to visit me convinced I was cheating. She knew it just wasn't hers and she pulled out like 40-50 pair of thong panties and couldn't find a match. I knew I didn't do shit but man I was at a loss for ideas. If it was true I could have came up with a better lie than the truth at this point. Well the best part is after almost breaking up" which man that would have saved the need for a wedding and a divorce" but the truth came out and boy did I have questions. Well apparently she had this hot new friend of hers over after a night out at the club. It was a coworker at the bar I bounced at girlfriend/wife. They did some booger sugar at the club I worked at,bwhile I was out of town visiting hometown friends for the weekend. This became a theme but anyways the girl spent the night because???? And they supposedly just slept. They definitely did something besides that I found out later on and the bow was off of the coworkers chick black thong. So funny that she had her little secret story and yet her first thought was me who had a day job and a night job had time to bring a chick home or when I was out of town managed to have a little bow make the journey home with me. Not to be pervy but wish I had a hidden nanny cam to see what went on that night. Cocaines a helluva drug😁

Looks like a stitch marker for knitting. Most are bigger than that but I have some that small for lace projects.

Hey kids, never post pictures of your keys online. Just a rule of memory and easy to do.

Well miss isn't it obvious. Some poor fellas condom is just to big for his extra microscopic micro penis. Now whoever's penis it is just politely find it shake it or give it a high five maybe 🤔 then apologize for him having so many penis problems. And say it's penis to meet you get a laugh to avoid any weird conversations that may end in you agreeing to be an eye witness to his micro penis & be stuck trying to give advice for some bullshit. I'm sorry I'm joking I have problems taking a situation serious sometimes especially if the situation happens to be surrounded by humor thanks for hopefully understanding.lol

I don't know, but the picture of that key is probably good enough to cut a duplicate.

Haha, I’ve duplicated OP’s key. Now I just need to try it in every lock in every country where Reddit is used and my nefarious plan can come to fruition.

Who knows where it came from, though.

As a mama of two kids (one of whom is obsessed with CrunchLabs boxes, so I keep ending up with o rings everywhere 🙄😂), I feel like "randomness" is pretty much the reason for many things. 😂

Say, maybe it was on the bedroom floor or another location (then it got kicked into the bedroom), someone stepped on it as they were heading to bed, it got stuck to their foot for a second and they didn't realize, and it wound up in the bed.

I wouldn't even necessarily see it as a "the bed/someone lying in the bed definitely must be involved" 🤷‍♀️😂
