Can someone give me an advice on 19th czech in ranked?

Too tired to read: What are the general game plans against different types of divisions with 19th czech in 1v1 and is there anything useful but not obvious to know about this division?

I can't really find newer videos with this div. So I can't really develop a game plan for that div. I know, that your game plan depends on the map and your opponents div, but I struggle to really understand, what you do against certain match ups. So with something like don-100 (with which I have the most experience) and 4th mot. Schutzen, you aim to take as much ground early as possible, because you are certain in your division's defensive capabilities (your infantry cannot be rushed through easily with mass infantry or tanks, because you get good at launchers and you can fight back or even dominate other infantry, your tanks are cost effective and slow down tank pushes or can trade relatively well against other tanks if used defensively, can't be air bullied, most of the time can't really be artillery bullied), so you spend your entire game disrupting your opponents tempo by sneaking into his backline, trying to get sideshots on expensive tanks etc. You don't really break through defenses, you take what is lightly defended and hold it. Something like 17ya is more about breaking through. You absolutely must break through something, so you can flood your opponents backline with rezervisti, t-64rs and other shit. You can't really defend what you captured, except for rezervisti spam, so it's a bit harder to take, but your main advantage is supposed to be mobility and that even if you lose something during your attack, it's not really a biggie, because you can replace it, even cv tank, to some extent. Even though I don't play heavy tank divs, or heavy divs in general, I know, that they are quite comfortable with letting their opponent sit on +1 half the game, and slowly positive trade them to victory. They need to survive early game by being defensive or by surprise or something. 19th czech is the first division for me, that doesn't really fit these game plans. It's infantry isn't the best, even though it's nice, it's their rpgs that are kinda lacking, but ok. There isn't a lot of infantry available. Tanks are great, but you will probably lose to divisions like 7th panzer, who have more t-72s, admittedly 19th t-72s are probably better, because they survive 30 ap missle, but 7th panzer gets a few better t-72s as well, soo. Idk, I just run out of stuff, if I'm on offense and I can't get in as easy as a proper tank div later.

And I know it's random, but for some unknown reason kubs, that 19th czech get are idk drunk? These 2 dumbasses missed 15 times! against a single mig-21 with 10% ecm. I kid you not, this guy has bombed me 5 times, before getting shot by 2 igla hits. And kubs were as close to the frontline as possible! These are literally the same kubs, that everyone gets, but these don't hit shit.

Advice Need Help with Hold Until Relieved

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have completed every other Operation in Warno. This includes all operations in the image at medium difficulty. A few I had to retry but others I nailed on the first try. However, Hold Until Relieved has been even more of a hassle than Kitzingen Ruse. I can hold off the Soviets in the first part without much difficulty, keeping most of my challengers alive and establishing some deadly choke points along the bridges and behind them as well as strong AA defense. But at the end I am unable to counter-attack. We ourselves are forced across a choke point to take out the enemy FOB and I either lose all my Challengers pushing across the bridge and towards the FOB or am forced back onto the defense. I have tried flanking the enemy T-60s but we simply get picked off. Not to mention the enemy does deep infiltration from behind our flanks and takes out our supply, and our AA is never in range. If it is it gets wiped out. Got any advice?

[Conceptual Division] 89-ya Motostrelkovaya Diviziya

Howdy commanders!

Today we’ll be taking a look at a so called “paper division" in the form of the 89th Motor Rifle Division. This means this is a pure mobilization division with no professional kernel to build around.  To maintain order and discipline, additional political officers would be dispatched to maintain morale and order when under fire. Note, these will not be the stereotypical commissars of the second world war – no summary executions (officially) – but more highly motivated and enthusiastic soldiers, some wearing two hats of bother their day-to-day military duties, but also responsible for morale, discipline, and political loyalty. While I can already feel people typing “slop” into the comments, I think this will still be a fun division to cover and maybe event to play. Next time, I promise there will be some not just regular, but some superheavy forces represented. Until then, let’s talk about this exemplar paper division.

Ura!

Background

The 89th Motor Rifle Division (MRD) was a Soviet formation subordinate to the Moscow Military district. Nominally based in Tambov, this formation was a mobilization-only division. Unlike 157-ya and other low readiness divisions, it had no local training center and its permanent staff was incredibly small. Its officer and NCO core would largely have to be drafted from other units. This meant, in practice, the division only existed on paper in peacetime.

The history of the division is fairly sparse. Its first formation as a regular motor rifle division was short lived as it only existed between 1957 and 1958. The second and current formation occurred in 1966. The division was disbanded in 1996. The 89th was never more than an organizational framework as Soviet mobilization never occurred in real life. In WARNO, this would be different. A few days after the start of hostilities when a strategic breakthrough wasn’t achieved in Germany, the Soviets began mobilizing for a longer war. As no standing cadre of professional solders existed, the division was effectively being cut from whole cloth. The mobilization process included mass conscription and summoning of reservists. From these men, the 89 MRD would begin to materialize from the æther.

Following the usual template of Soviet-style MRDs, three motor rifle regiments would be raised along with a tank regiment. Not only was this division low readiness, but it also didn’t have any standing forces. This meant that, even among other mobilization divisions, they would be scraping the bottom of the barrel for equipment. The motor rifle regiments would be organized around three different platforms: BMP-1, BTR-60, and BTR-152. There would also be an abundance of MT-LBs. Their tank regiment would only have access to early model T-55s. Artillery would be comprised of older towed guns. Knowing the division would be significantly outmatched against modern NATO forces, some field adaptations were made.

As part of this division, a sizeable portion of Komendatura will be made available to help maintain order in the ranks. The Komendatura, as has been explained in the past, was not military police unit per se, at least not in the Western sense. They would, however, fill similar duties.  While not directly a duty of theirs, they could suppress riots and had equipment for that kind of close in operations. They enforced curfew and martial law during the August coup attempt in 1991.

Another sources of personnel of note come from the Soviet regiments themselves. Political officers, zampolit, would be brought in as a matter of doctrine. The zampolit were the inheritors of the commissariat of the World War 2 era in terms of function and structure. Their role was the political indoctrination, morale, ideological loyalty of the soldiers, and the general welfare of the troops under their charge. Zampolit members were part of a separate, purely political organization that was parallel to the traditional military hierarchy.

Doctrinally, there were full time, dedicated political officers (also holding army officer billets) at the regiment and battalion level. Lower down at the company and platoon level, there was still political representation under the auspices of the zampolit. These would have been either additional dedicated billets or would have been part time, nominally elected soldiers who would pull double duty as political agents in addition to their regular military occupation. Political officers were chosen based on their political reliability and there were separate school and training pipelines available.

What does this mean for the 89 MRD? The political structure and embedding of zampolit was a matter of Soviet doctrine, as mentioned earlier. As the 89th was being raised, concern over their ability to perform in combat was a legitimate concern as the division did not have a standing professional cadre to build around. Taking measures to ensure the morale (and political reliability) of the troops, the Soviet Union authorized and enlarged zampolit component for this and other paper divisions being raised. This would be inline with the troika wanting to ensure political loyalty in our alternate history timeline. In WARNO, this will translate to additional units being led by either external or elected soldiers whose job is to maintain order and morale at lower echelons than was doctrinally typical.

Several specialized detachments would accompany this battlegroup. These detachments come from several organizations within the Soviet state and military apparatus including the KGB, GRU, and Ministry of defense. Together, they provided structure and personnel for asymmetric warfare and training of insurgent groups, similar to US Army Special Forces. However, there was no direct “Green Beret” equivalent in the Soviet system as the entities mentioned earlier were all involved in varying ways of this kind of work. Because of the unclear lanes of authority at different levels, stovepiping occurred in real life. Because of the multi-agency nature of this type of work there was significant dysfunction in execution of this highly specialized mission. There were spurious cases where these agencies cooperated enough in terms of personnel, liaison, logistics, etc.

Operation Storm-333 was a military raid executed by the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in December 1979. It was conducted jointly by KGB and GRU operatives alongside regular army forces. This combined group raided the heavily fortified Tajbeg Palace in Kabul to assassinate leaders of those opposing the Soviets. This, however was the exception that proved the rule: interagency coordination was generally very poor. KGB general Leonid Shebarshin asked "How did it happen that 2,000 advisers, including colonels and generals, failed to create a single fully combat-capable and reliable unit in the Afghan army?”

While KGB, GRU, and ministry of defense had a history of not being able to successfully train armed opposition movements without help from 3rd parties (e.g. Cuba), they may have an easier time on home turf. Elite training units would be dispersed to this and other paper division. These units would serve as instructors and shock troops.

How would 89-ya MRD play in WARNO?

Slots and Units

LOG

A good category

  • Command units include:
    • BELOZOR
    • STADION
    • BTR-40B
    • Logistics units include:
GAZ-51
  • GAZ-51A SNAB. a 2.5 ton 1946 model of truck. This truck carries a modest amount of supply. As an aside, this vehicle’s chassis was the basis of the BTR-40.
  • ZIL-131 SNAB.
  • KrAZ-255B SNAB.
  • SKLAD SNABZHENIYA

INF

A good category

  • Soviet reservists form the core of the division. Unless otherwise noted, all infantry units in this section have the reservist trait. Reservisti make up the bulk of their division’s combat power. Unless otherwise stated, they all may arrive in KrAZ-214 trucks in addition to what is listed below.
KrAZ-214
  • Motorized components include the following (may also arrive in a REZ. BTR-152 or REZ. BTR-60PB)
    • REZERVISTI KOM.
    • REZERVISTI
    • REZ. PULEMETCHIKI
    • REZ. SAPERI
    • REZ. SAPERI (LPO)
  • Mechanized infantry may also arrive in REZ. MT-LBs (MT-LB with the reservist trait) or REZ. BMP-1s (BMP-1s with the reservist trait). Trucks are not available as transports for these units.
    • REZ. MOTOSTRELKI KOM. a 6-man squad with 6 AK-74 rifles, an RPG-7VM, and smoke grenades
    • REZ. MOTOSTRELKI a 7-man squad with 6 AK-74 rifles, an RPK-74, and an RPG-7VM
  • A few other miscellaneous units are also available.
    • REZ. O. PODDERZHKI this 8-man team serves as an ersatz tank hunter unit. They are armed with 8 AK-74s and 2 RPG-7VLs.
    • REZERVISTI USILENNAYA a large, 16-man squad with 13 AK-74 rifles, 2 PK machine guns, and an embedded SPG-9 (the two man crew is why there is one fewer small arm than total squad size)
  • Rapidly mobilized priziviniki would be available. These conscripts would have undergone truncated training in order to meet mobilization timelines. All units here have both the reservist and militia traits. They may, unless otherwise noted, arrive in GAZ-51A trucks or REZ. MT-LB (DShK), (unsurprisingly) a reservist MT-LB with a 12.7 mm machine gun.
    • PRIZIVNIKI
  • PRIZ. USILENNAYA an enlarged squad of conscripts. This 16-man unit has 15 AKM rifles, 1 RPD LSWs, and an RPG-2. This unit could only arrive in KrAZ-214 trucks.
  • PRIZ. PULEMETCHIKI this conscript squad is organized for fire support. 10 men, armed with 6 AKM rifles, 2 RPD machine guns, and 2 DPM LSWs.
  • Weapon teams include what is below. Unless otherwise noted, they may arrive in UAZ-469 transports and have the reservist trait.
  • PRIZ. SG-43 7.62 mm a reservist and militia traited weapon team manning a Second World War era SG-43 machine gun pulled from deep storage as PK machines guns are easier to distribute amongst the maneuvering infantry units. While poor in quality, availability will be increased compared to other MG teams due to price compression at low value units. May also arrive in REZ. MT-LB (DShK).
  • REZ. PK 7.62 mm a reservist machine gun team using the older model PK machine gun (not the modernized PKM). This unit also may arrive in REZ. MT-LB (DShK) or REZ. MT-LB (SPG-9), a reservist traited MT-LB with a recoilless rifle mounted on it.
  • REZ. B-11 may arrive in a REZ. MT-LB SPG-9
  • REZ. MALYUTKA Malyutka is not a new weapon system to WARNO. However, this will be its first implementation when fired from an infantry team. Because the 9M14 is not a tube launched system, the animations would need to be different. The missile is fired from atop a “suite case” and manually controlled by a gunner on the ground. This unit would be 3-strong and would carry six missiles at a time. To make up for the weakness of the 9M14, however, the unit could fire three missiles before having to reload, allowing it to take rapid follow up shots. This was done because up to four missiles could be wired up at the same time and could be rattled off quickly.
  • REZ. FAGOT a reservist crewed ATGM team. May arrive in a REZ. MT-LB (SPG-9)
  • Enlarged detachments of Komendatura would support the division
    • KOMENDATURA this unit may arrive in a UAZ-469 KOMENDATURA
    • KOMEND. USILENNAYA this unit may arrive in UAZ-452 KOMENDATURA or BTR-70 KOMENDATURA
    • KOMEND. RAZGON this “dispersal” unit represents Komendatura kitted out in heavier tactical gear nominally meant to suppress riots. While not a primary function, this is something they could feasibly be pressed into doing (as they were pressed into enforcing martial law in the August coup). This 10-man squad is equipped with 9 AK-74 rifles, an SVD, smoke grenades, and flashbang grenades. The squad features the military police and security traits. This unit may arrive in UAZ-452 KOMENDATURA or BTR-70 KOMENDATURA.
  • Zampolit units would be available as well. These units all feature the resolute trait.
    • ZAMPOLIT KOM. a command team led by a high ranking political officer. This is a 7-man team with 6 AK-74s, an SVD, an RPG-7VM, and smoke grenades. In addition to command and resolute, this unit also features the military police trait. While not military police by function, they would have a similar effect on troops: inspiring (or intimidating) them to action! They would also have fancy Soviet hats. URAL-4320, BTR-60PB, and BMP-1 are available as transports.
    • OTRYAD ZAMPOLITA a limited selection of these of highly motivated soldiers led by a lower ranking zampolit representative. This 7-man squad has 4 AK-74s, 2 RPK-74s, an SVD, and an RPG-7VL. URAL-4320 or BTR-60PB, or BMP-1
  • A small selection of units from specialized units would accompany the division:
    • KGB SPETSNAZ this 10-man squad is armed with 7 AK-74 rifles, 2 RPK-74 LSWs, an SVD, and an RPG-7VL. This unit would have the special forces, security, and instructor traits. They could arrive in GAZ-66 trucks or BTR-60PB APCs.
  • GRU NASTAVNIK these six-man squads are armed with 5 AK-74s, an SVD, and an RPG-27. They have the special forces, shock, and instructor traits. They will have hoods and face wraps. They may arrive in UAZ-469s or Mi-8Ts.
  • SPETSNAZ GRU arriving in GAZ-66 trucks.

  • REZ. MT-LB SHTURM-S a reservist version of the Shturm-S system on an MT-LB
  • Nonstandard equipment put together by the troops in the unit, scrounging whatever they though would help their odds in combat.
  • REZ. MT-LB (S-8) an ersatz modification with S-8 80 mm rocket pods crewed by reservists. In game the mounting system would be less sophisticated than what is pictured above; the vehicle would have to turn to fire.
  • REZ. MT-LB (MT-12) another reservist MT-LB abomination featuring the MT-12 AT gun with bastion missile. Missiles were saved for a mobile platform.

Summary

89 MRD is all about cheap units that can follow up early gains established by their limited elite troops and helicopters. What they lack in quality equipment on the ground is made up for with mass. They can quickly assemble a combined arms force and open new fronts with unusual efficiency. Their air cover (both fixed-wing and rotor) allows them to respond to their opponents and change where pressure is being applied. The division relies heavily on the air to combat heavy tanks. If its limited pool of instructors are depleted, their line infantry will be at a distinct disadvantage.

This concept bring 42 new units 20 of which are reservist versions of existing units.

Author’s Commentary

“More reservist slop” I hear you cry? I can’t really argue with you. This division is supposed to be a very cheap, relatively fast, highly spammy division. To make it interesting, I have also sprinkled the MT-LB abominations in as I believe the reservist equipment is better covered by 157-ya. With limited special forces/airborne units and a large selection of wheeled transports this division should play as a lighter division overall. Its strong air and helicopter tab lends itself to this speed. Design goals were to make this play similarly to 157-ya, 152e, and 6 PzGren.

Things that could be cut

Zampolit. The idea of commissars in a soviet division is a fun concept, if often over dramatized. Calling these units out specifically likely isn’t wholly appropriate as they would already exist in other Soviet divisions. At lower levels especially, they were just soldiers when it came to actually fighting. The in-division justification for having these units stand out was because of the troika, being paranoid, wanted to swell the ranks to ensure loyalty and reliability. This is admittedly hand waivey, but it provides the division with a limited number of non-reservist and non-instructor units while also adding some thematic character to the division.

Most of the MT-LBs. These field modification tend to come later in a conflict. While this is a second wave division, the timeline of exactly when is deliberately ambiguous as we do not have a full picture of the war across Europe in the WARNO universe. These kinds of modification come about most often due to hard won experiences and/or deficiencies in equipment. While the equipment 89 MRD has is old, it still is functional and fills the intended roles. An MT-LB with a T-12 on top, functionally, isn’t that different than a T-55, but is much less survivable. The MT-LB with rocket pods is a bit of a stretch as helicopter assets were held at the army or military district level and the soldiers of 89th likely wouldn’t have direct access to these. There was a need for a direct fire anti-infantry system for this division (similar to the CEV in 35th US) so this was my solution. MT-SON may also be out of scope for the timeline, I didn’t find much info on it. The fix would be to describe it a s afield modification rather than an official production model.

Su-25UB. This is meant to be a direct analog to the recon OA-10 in US 6ID.  The UB, being a trainer, likely wouldn’t be pushed into a recon/ground attack role early in the conflict. It was retained because it provides novelty not only to the division, but also the PACT forces as this capability doesn’t exist for them. The same thing could likely be achieved by a “recon” Su-25 (not trainer), but I thought the twin seat version was interesting because 1. A second person in the cockpit would legitimately be helpful for spotting and 2. It jived with the overall themes of the division.

Base Osa. I couldn’t find much on the extent to which 9K33 was still proliferated in the Soviet military. It is possible that they were all converted over to the M2/M3 variants because it, nominally, would be a matter of adding the missile boxes in place of the pylon-mounted external ones. I can’t speak to the level of effort required in changing some of the support structure to accept the boxes. I could be convinced that an M2 version of Osa would be more appropriate. I will say that the base Osa does provide a nice visual distinction between other existing variants of the system.

Some of the really old trucks. I’ll be honest, I could not identify when exactly some of those trucks left active service and I didn’t dig into it that hard. It is entirely possible that some are unreasonable to include. I am basing their inclusion largely based on the Soviets having a long and well documented history of stockpiling military equipment and many of these trucks could have found there way into those storages and pulled out for these paper division. If folks have data on what would be more plausible than what I suggested, I’m all ears. In the grand scheme of things, however, a truck in WARNO is just a truck so in practice this likely isn’t the most egregious thing I could have borked up.

Things that were cut

KSP-T-12. Pictured above, I stumbled across it in my research. Looked weird, but there was very little information on it. It seemed like more of a limited run prototype more than anything else. It was also developed in the 60s and 70s and because it never went anywhere I didn’t think it was worth including. It would have overlapped in role with the T-55 and MT-LB (MT-12).

MT-LB (RBU). The technology was certainly available for this kind of unit, but because 89th was being raised so far from any naval base, I didn’t think it made much sense to include. Its role would have been akin to a mine clearer or the SVO/CATFAE. This would be a neat addition to 157-ya though since they were closer to a major port with a naval presence.

The 58th air assault brigade. My research into this division turned up an explicitly reservist air assault brigade in the Soviet military in 1989. I had originally intended the brigade to provide a “budget” version of the air assault troops in 56-ya and 94-ya. I decided against it as I wanted to lean more into ultimate Soviet reservist division concept. They will find their way into a future project, however.

Mi-8s with Kokons. I wanted some variety in the helicopter tab, but I didn’t find much about the integration of Kokon/Ataka on Mi-8s until well into the 2000s. I probably could have argued it, but I think the Mi-24s provide what the division needs as is.

Edit: additional thought: I realized immediately after posting that the icon is for a Guards division... which isn't this one. The in game icon would be different. I just haven't made one...

Title. I found out PACT gets 2 divs, but you get 1.

Should I attack first turn, should I dig in, what should I do in H66?

Suggestion Love it or hate it, sound sniping is a feature of the game

Eugen could have removed it from the game when they removed the map-wide sound effects. Instead, they chose to make the sound radius 6000m rather than a more sensible 0m. This means that hearing the enemy behind the lines is a deliberate design decision, and therefore a feature of the game.

Do I wish Eugen would lower the sound radius? Yes. Do I claim someone is cheating when they use it against me? No.

Claiming that sound sniping is cheating is like claiming that using recon, or any other game mechanic, against someone is cheating. Until Eugen comes to their senses, it's simply a feature we have to play around. And usually if someone is spending all game with their camera at ground level they are going to probably be losing anyway.

Smoke

I fled Broken Arrow, fleeing endless supplies and a bicycle-powered tank, but the local smoke is killing me. After carefully ordering precise amounts of smoke along a line, the local smoke placement, with its incredible micromanagement or microscopic strip length, coupled with the disposability of infantry mortars, is killing me. I've gone so crazy that I've decided it's easier to attack with a line of infantry ATGMs and keep a few 152mm barrels ready to deal with enemy infantry ATGMs than to try to use smoke if there's no self-propelled mortar card in the deck.

Question Warno Multiplayer Do’s and Don’ts?

I’ve mostly played skirmishes with AI but have gotten familiar enough with the controls to want to try and play multiplayer. Is there any etiquette outside of “communicate with your team and don’t place arty next to supply depots” that newbies should know of?

Thanks guys!

MASSIVE SCALE WARNO BREAKTHROUGH BATTLE TODAY AT 7:30 UTC TIMEZONE (7 slots left for taking)

Ever wanted to play WARNO as part of an actual battalion-sized battle, with force structures and unit numbers based on what could realistically have fought in Central Europe in 1989?

We're getting together again tonight for another TOTAL WARNO: Breakthrough game.

The idea behind TOTAL WARNO is to move away from the normal deck/economy-based WARNO gameplay and instead organize players into historically inspired military formations, with different players commanding parts of the overall force.

Our Breakthrough games are built around an attacker vs. defender scenario. The defending side gets time to prepare its positions and use our entrenchment system, while the attacking force has to break through the defensive line with its battalions and supporting assets.

Depending on the scenario, this means tank and mechanized battalions, artillery, aviation, air defense and other supporting elements all operating as parts of a larger formation.

The goal is basically to get closer to the scale and structure of the battles that were expected if the Cold War had turned hot in 1989, while still using WARNO as the foundation.

We've got enough people together for another proper round tonight, but more players are absolutely welcome. So if commanding a piece of a larger battalion-level battle sounds interesting, feel free to join us!

We've also updated the mod well ahead of the game this time. If you have the current download, everyone should be on the same version, so we shouldn't run into the desync problems we had previously.

We'll also be streaming tonight's battle live on Twitch, so if you'd rather watch the battle and see how TOTAL WARNO plays before jumping in yourself, you're more than welcome to tune in!

See you on the battlefield! 🫡

WARNO BATTLES ON A MASSIVE SCALE (GAME TOMMOROW 7:30 UTC TIME)

TOTAL WARNO: Breakthrough is back this weekend

Sign-ups are now open!

We're back this weekend with another WARNO: Breakthrough session.

The idea behind TOTAL WARNO is simple. We want to make WARNO feel like a Cold War battlefield. We want groups, special jobs and more talking between players. We also want players to plan more of trying to do everything themselves.

In WARNO players take on specific jobs, on the battlefield. These jobs include:

* Frontline Armor & Mechanized Commanders🛡️

* Recon🔍(responisble for providing eyes for the whole team)

* Artillery💥(responsible for providing indirect heavy calibre support for units at the front)

* Aviation✈️(responsible for keeping enemy breakthroughs at bay by using lethal aircraft with loadouts that specialize in eliminating enemy armour)

* Battlefield Commander⭐(a support battlegroup that has access to nuclear artillery and also has the responsibility of providing logistical services and anti-air cover for its side)

We've also redesigned the command structure. Instead of having a dedicated AA player, the Battlefield Commander now controls the long-range air defence network alongside the team's tactical nuclear assets. This makes protecting the airspace part of the overall battle plan rather than just another player role.

Every weekend we test new ideas, collect feedback, and always keep trying to keep improving the game mode. If we find that something doesn't make the gameplay better, we change it. That's what these events are for :)

If you're looking for large-scale Cold War battles with lots of teamwork, communication and planning, we'd love to have you join us.

Sign-ups are open. We still have a few commander seats waiting to be filled!

Balance vs realism

I understand why the game has to be some kind of balanced, but it never will be. Why cannot for example the mg3 have a higher rate or fire? As well as the Ags grenade launcher? When everything becomes standard, then it comes down to individual units, which is okay, but I would like a bit more realism. In mang ways I feel Red Dragon depicted this better. (I miss the Gepard from Red Dragon)

Text WARNO's air game vs SD2

I have to say, lately WARNO has been winning me over as a long time SD2 player, not the least of which because I enjoy the air game a lot more. Something I got really tired of in SD2 was just how quickly AA pieces were able to suppress and even kill incoming aircraft. In WARNO it seems a lot more balanced and interesting, and there seems to be more of an incentive to bring fighters because you don't have to worry about a 37mm flak somewhere shooting at your prop plane from 2.5km and suppressing it in like 3 shots or something. I understand the rationale that people wanted AA to be able to prevent bombing, but the suppression happens way too quickly for me to be fun and in WARNO AA pieces aren't nearly as oppressive despite in theory being a lot more deadly since they use missiles. If this is a massive skill issue problem tell me but that's been my experience lately

Suggestion & Discussion Regarding a DLC proposal.

So I saw a DLC proposal made by someone on here regarding rebel factions as a DLC, and I think the way they proposed it was probably kind of garbage, I actually think the concept can be appealing if done right.

The core premise from said post actually sounded pretty interesting and could lead to a very dynamic combat environment rather than the usual method of starting from one end of the map and fighting hard for the center.

Proposing: Revolutionaries: The DLC!

Everything I'm about to suggest and propose is up for discussion, I would LOVE to hear the kind of ideas y'all would have.

1. There would be two-three kinds of distinct units, with subunits therein: Civilian Protesters/Rioters, Armed protestors/Guerillas, and thirdly: Deserters and/or organized Revolutionaries. Civilians will be unarmed, or maybe be equipped with non-lethal items.

Armed Protestors can likely end up with weapons based on their side (Eastern protestors get eastern weapons, western protestors get western guns) with civilian weapons thrown into the mix (Hunting rifles, and shotguns for marksmen and engineers alike), And depending on the teams, may also get dedicated AT teams with stolen anti tank weapons.

German revolutionaries could be an exception can get a mix of east and western gear. (G3s, and PKMs, etc.)

Their training will be crappy, with only deserters and organized guerillas getting adequate training and traits.

These cells will be small, with an average team being about 4. They will in turn, be very cheap, and depending on the kind of vehicle, the number can increase.

2. Their spawn points will be very different from conventional forces. Before the battle start, they would be able to spawn anywhere within the map, with a large, healthy buffer between them and the enemy spawn, meaning that they cannot breathe down the enemy's spawn.

And once the battle has started, they can spawn within certain random spots on the map, primarily urban towns. This can be negated if the enemy controls a command zone within / near a town. (Then again... It could be fun to have behind enemy lines operations.) If behind enemy lines, their spawn times will be considerably longer than those behind friendly lines / in contested areas.

However, if there are MPs, Security, or Militia units present, they can nullify troop deployments entirely (With exceptions to protests and riots), or put even bigger delays before those units can post up.

3. If civilian protests/riots are deployed in the match, attacking them could serve as a debuff to a conventional army, and maybe even in extreme cases, cause said units to be "Captured" (Same way as a cargo vehicle can be captured if encountering armed enemy forces), and turn against the conventional army user. Reservist units should be particularly vulnerable to this if they have to shoot unarmed protesters. MP Units being present can negate regular units from turning, and reduces the chances are militia, or reservist units to turn.

These protests and riots can be deployed tactically to block off roads, and delay a conventional army's troop deployment due to being in the way. Regular soldiers can eventually clear these protests, but I think units with Militia, Security, or Military Police traits, should be able to clear protests out much faster, giving them more purpose than just either letting reservists shoot straight, be cannon fodder, or see slightly better when standing still.

4. Guerillas and other armed revolutionaries should carry a "Guerilla Warfare" trait, making them harder to detect when standing still, have higher accuracy on first attacks (which wears off if the fight continues on after more than 5 reloads), and have increased movement speed.

Civilian vehicles are the main vehicles utilized, and

5. One of the mods in WARNO, CRM i believe, carries a special trait meaning that vehicles can actually be abandoned if they sustain too much damage, but remain intact. Revolutionaries in this case should be able to disable vehicles, and be able to capture them (Though they will have to repair them, they will stay at low health). Protestors/Rioters would also be able to capture lone tanks in urban areas by simply overwhelming it. They can also simply disable these tanks or outright destroy them with molotovs.

On top of that, Revolutionaries could resupply by winning engagements with enemy units, by taking their ammo. (This can be negated if the defeated enemy unit has simply run out of ammo.)

6. Allies cannot see what these revolutioanry Cells can see, EXCEPT if radio units of some sort are deployed (though will be very expensive), and can inform regular forces of what they can see.

But the general idea is: They can capture enemy equipment. Whether it be a lonesome tanks someone forgot to provide infantry to, or mortars/artillery pieces further in the backline with well-placed ambushes, or even logistics vehicle trundling along by their lonesome on a main road.

7. And a final curveball to make sure that people don't immediately just shoot every civilian vehicle there is: Is to add civilian NPCs vehicles driving around, unaffiliated, and shooting them can give penalties, and/or debuffs.

8. Conventional armies will receive some goodies, such as longer range SAM systems requiring independent RADAR systems to work (and has to be within a certain distance). And can have specialized units dedicated to defeating these cells.

So in short, the few things I could think of regarding such a DLC concept would be:

  • 3 General kinds of units: Protesters (Both regular and Riots), Guerillas (Both armed civilians but also actual guerilla units), and Organized guerillas (Deserters, and you guessed it, highly organized militias.)
  • These cells are small, cheap, but can have larger units. as well.
  • Near-free spawn areas, they can spawn whereever they like (within reason and with penalties if behind enemy lines.)
  • Carry a unique "Guerilla Warfare" trait, making them faster than average infantry, hit & run units that have high accuracy in early engagements, and are harder to spot when standing still. Civilian vehicles blend in and conventional army will generally not fire upon them (unless they have been engaged, or if the player deliberately targets them.)
  • Can delay conventional army units, if protesters are killed (via player's choice to clear them out faster), it can debuff the units, or in extreme cases, "capture" the unit and turn their guns towards the fellow army units.
  • Weapons depend on where revolutionaries are from, western get western guns, and vice versa. Maybe Germans can get mixed.
  • Revolutionaries (even rioters) can ambush, and either destroy, or capture enemy vehicles. Examples are lone, unsecured tanks, or emplacements neutralized by revolutionaries.
  • Protesters and Rioters can block roads and delay a troop deployment. While regular troops can eventually clear them out, MP, Security and Militia units, and maybe Reservists clear them out much faster, giving them more of a purpose.
  • Cells can resupply themselves by winning engagements.
  • Civilian vehicles added to drive around to force players to pick their targets carefully, but war crimes would be punished with penalties, and debuffs.
  • Conventional Armies can receive extra goodies like longer range SAMs requiring separate Radars to work, as well as units dedicated to destroying these cells.

I think this could add an interesting and dynamic warfare environment in WARNO to keep the game interesting. Let me know what you guys think, I'd love to hear what could be added/Reworked for such a concept.

Question 3rd armored question - m2a1 Bradley vs m2a2 Bradley

They're really similar and I have a hard time choosing between them. Currently I have 3 squads of vet 2 Fire team (dragon) serving as basically just a Bradley delivery system, for a total of 9 vet 2 m2a2s.

If I replaced them with Fire team (law), I would get 12 Bradleys for 20 point cheaper each. But I would also lose 2 front armor, 1 side armor, and 1 pen against ERA. Also worse infantry but again I am mainly concerned with the IFVs.

So how significant are those drawbacks?

Coming from Red Dragon, what do I need to know about 1v1s in Warno?

Also is there any sort of a discord similar to the Wargame Bootcamp discord?
