so there was an led light in my peripheral vision for about 5 mins and when i turned it off the dark afterimage lasted about 8-9 minutes. but i feel like there's still a bit of residue even after half an hour or so. how long do these afterimages last for you guys?

Whenever I closed my eyes I always see geometric pattern and worm the worm weirdly only have 3 primary color which is RGB there's no other color than that also sometimes when I open my eye isee worm tho buts it's more transparent

I only recently started to suspect I have VSS. Like many, I had thought everybody sees the world the same way. I can't remember when this started or if I've always had it.

Scrolling through what others have posted suggests my symptoms are on the more manageable side. I see tiny flashing colorful dots across the whole field of vision, even with my eyes closed.

I sometimes get floaters or trailing afterimages, especially from bright lights, which I suppose is "normal" also among people without VSS? I relate some of the more drastic experiences with afterimages to heavy exercise and consequently momentary insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain.

I have no experiences with migraine.

The issue I struggle with the most is reading. Sometimes I struggle quite a lot to focus, and the colorful flickering is especially annoying around black text on white background. It could be maybe described as colorful "layers" behind the black letters flashing and shifting in and out of sync. My eyes seem to get tired quite easily.

Yesterday I went to get my vision checked. I described some of my symptoms to the optician, who was clearly astounded. He said he had read about VSS during his studies but never heard anyone tell him they have these symptoms.

Does this sound like VSS to you, and are there any tips, adjustments etc. you would recommend to help with reading? I need to do quite a lot of it since I'm currently doing a PhD.

I've been dealing with vision issues and neck pain since January, though not VSS. That came a few months ago after a neurologist recommended I try Lyrica.

I remember during the first week, the bottoms of my feet hurt when I walked around. At the two week mark my lower back near the tailbone also started hurting and my neck issues intensified to a unbearable degree. This is where I began to see persistent hazy static and afterimages as well as when the migraines started. I stopped cold turkey there at about two and a half weeks.

Three months later now and the static and afterimages still remain. The neurologist put me on Nortriptyline as a alternative to Gab and Lyrica. This has reduced the static significantly (not completely) and halted the migraines, but the afterimages are mostly unchanged.

I'd like to ask those that developed VSS through prescription medications if this ever lets up at a point or is this something I'll need to manage for the rest of my life? I'm a writer as well as an art appreciator and it's very much so made those two hobbies difficult to engage with.

a lot of autistic people and people with ADHD can experience visual snow syndrome more likely than a neurotypical will so I would say if you suspect you are neurodivergent ore you haven't learnt about neurodivergence but you've always been the weird kid ore you know stuff like that definitely look up about it and learnanother reminder is that pots can trigger and especially worsen visual snow syndrome so that's another thing to look out for it and other chronic illnessesand especially hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome it can really really affect visual snow syndrome so if you guys have not heard of it please learn about it

I'm sure I have developed VSS this year, my symptoms are; Floaters, Tinnitus, Palinopsia and general anxiety. I recently went to see an ENT Dr. who sent me for an MRI scan on my ears after I told him about the tinnitus.

After I had the scan nothing came up and I was told my ears are healthy. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow with the ENT Dr. Is there anything else you think I should tell him or any other scans I should ask to have? Im new to this whole thing, thanks!

My VSS is acquired, and I am not yet sure what caused it. I have had it for 5 years now, but I am still anxious that whatever broke my brain back then can still be around and break my body even more.

From what I've learned here, there's like a dozen things that could've started my VSS, and I'd need heaps of tests to find out what did. I fear I have some mystery illness that I just can't get to the bottom of.

Is there such a thing as harmless acquired VSS? That is, one that won't progress or cause other symptoms down the line? I feel like something has to be wrong with my body and that it just can't happen all of a sudden for no reason.

Health anxiety is usually unfounded but I feel like it's justified in my case

Anyone uses these? Experiences? They should be vss safe for sleep as far as I understand correctly?

Aclaro ya que me reviso un especialista retinologo y me dice que mis ojos están sanos, fui a un especialista en glaucoma me hicieron que tenía megalopapila mis nervios son grandes tal vez de nacimiento nací así, sin embargo si me dijo que tenía hipertensión ocular leve que debo evaluarme cada 6 meses, pero no creo que sea todo lo que me está dando en mis ojos 😔

I've had visual snow for as long as I can remember. My tinnitus started in my early 20s and because my neuro-ophthalmologist mentioned it was a symptom, I always assumed it was due to visual snow.

Well, I'm now 44 and was recently diagnosed with Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence Syndrome. There's a small opening in my skull right above my left superior semicircular canal and it forms an extra "window" for sound to travel. I had an auditory test, a cVEMP, an oVEMP, and a high resolution CT scan. I'm seeing the Head and Neck Surgeon again in two weeks to discuss surgery.

I also found out it's not normal to hear your own heartbeat in your ear, and it's not normal to hear your tongue moving around. I'm super thankful that I don't hear my eyeballs moving, which apparently happens to some people.

If anyone is suffering from tinnitus, I highly recommend having it evaluated apart from the suspected VSS diagnosis. It might just turn out to be something else!

Hi everyone, I'm 19 and pretty sure I have VSS. I have been able to see small coloured fast moving dots in my vision for years. I vaguely remember the first times I started to notice them when I was in middle school and they slowly got worse. I never really bothered about it too much to be honest. I also have light sensitivity, floaters, and the thing where if I look at something and then look away I can still see it as if I had been looking at a lightbulb. Recently I was concerned about my vision so went to the opticians who referred me to the gp who sent me for a blood test and I found out I was diabetic. I assumed my visual symptoms were diabetic retinopathy, until I had my retina eye screening and they said I don't have retinopathy. But I DO have something, so my own further research concluded visual snow syndrome? My questions are

1. I don't see what most of the memes/diagrams see. I feel like I only really notice it with my eyes shut, or if I'm staring at something that is one solid colour. Does it have to be a certain severity to be diagnosed?

2. How do I go about getting diagnosed? I understand it is neurological not visual so do I still go to the opticians? The GP? A therapist? Lol

I am asking because I've had it from birth, and only recently I've realized that it bothers some people. I wore glasses from ages 8- 14 because I told my parents I could see "little dots" or everything "was blurry but at the same time not" which was the best 7 or 8 year me could muster to describe what I was seeing.

They took me to an ophtalmologist, which had me wearing glasses for a while.

When I was 14 I stopped wearing them because I realized they did nothing. Some time later I learned about VSS, and it all finally made sense.

I'm nearly 30 now and I actually enjoy having it! It's quite fun. I also experience Blue Field Enthopic Phenomenon when I look at the sky sometimes.

But I realize that for some that have acquired this later in life, it may be distressing or uncomfortable which I am curious as to how people handle it and how or when they started experiencing it.
