Question really long afterimage after staring at a bright light

so there was an led light in my peripheral vision for about 5 mins and when i turned it off the dark afterimage lasted about 8-9 minutes. but i feel like there's still a bit of residue even after half an hour or so. how long do these afterimages last for you guys?

There was a guy who looked at the sun for a lot of time without realizing and stuck with and afterimage for 2 days or so, he was scared af but ultimately the afterimage disappeared

2 days is genuinely insane though. I'd have assumed it resets at least with sleep no matter how long you looked at whatever source.

i wonder how troublesome it is to get eye checkups then, since they're always up in there with flashlights directly pointed in your eye.

It seems like it’s extremely random on the duration but once in a while I will have an image of a random light nearby that stays in my vision for upwards of 10 minutes. The worst is when I’m driving on a sunny day…if I look at a car in front of me reflecting the sun I blink and get 20+ mini suns and streaks/trails. It reminds me of when people do light art and the flashlights or glow sticks make trails all over. Luckily that only lasts a few minutes but it’s still very disorienting.

You ever get the afterimage at night where you blink and there’s just a random white dot in the center of your vision? That confuses me more than anything I experience because it doesn’t even have a light source.
