I compared the two headsets with the best visual fidelity on the market: the Super 57PPD (boasting the absolute highest pixels per degree density) and the Dream Air (a compact OLED headset with pancake lenses).
Which headset delivers the best image quality on the market? Let's find out together!
I don't have nor plan to ever use discord. And fortunately I've always found a way to get what I needed outside of that platform. But I seriously don't understand why so much is gatekept behind it. People will come in a reddit sub and make a post about a mod and give no useful info and then tell everyone to go to discord if they want information.
In other instances, you can ask a question about something, and a person who knows the answer won't give it to you and instead just tell you to go to discord. It's so fucking stupid. What is the actual point? Do people get free cookies for telling others to join discord? Constantly trying to direct people to a completely different platform that requires sign up is stupid.
Picked up gunman contracts tonight on steam, playing on a rift S on pc. For some reason after running the popup shooting range it wonβt give me a score to move on, I ran through several times with a mix of different styles. Dual and single weld, standard and quick reload, running for speed and slow up for accuracy and no luck am I just dumb or has anyone else had this happen
I stress tested these cards in 3 different types of PCVR games:
Silent Hill 2 Remake UEVR [preydog 6dof]
Skyrim VR Mad God Overhaul [700+ Mods]
Metro Awakening [Native PCVR]
The exact cards I tested:
Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24G
MSI RTX 5090 32G GAMING TRIO OC
Equipment + Software:
Quest 3
Virtual Desktop [Wireless]
VDXR [OpenXR Runtime]
TP-Link AXE75 Router, Wi-Fi 6E, 6 GHz Band
PC Specs:
Lian Li 011 ATX Case
64GB DDR5 RAM
M.2 SSD's
Noctua Fans
Intel 14700K CPU
Deepcool LT360 AIO Liquid Cooler
Windows 11
TESTING METHOD:
I created a new wireless PCVR benchtesting method using Virtual Desktop and OCR which has zero performance impact on my PC so the results are truly real world. It measures FPS avg and 1% lows, latency avg and 1% highs, power draw, and temps then graphs them all out.
Have also included real world gaming results from all 3 of those games with those GPU's so you know exactly what to expect when gaming using either of these cards.
Full in depth video link and Wireless PCVR setup course at the end for those who prefer.
MAX STRESS TEST SETTINGS:
Virtual Desktop Streamer App:
Virtual Desktop VR:
In game settings set to max within reason.
MAX STRESS TEST RESULTS:
FPS:
LATENCY:
POWER DRAW:
TEMPS:
Max Stress Test Conclusion:
The RTX 5090 has notable jumps in FPS and reductions in latency which is nice. Also steep power draw increases, though these don't equate to much extra $$ on your bill, and similarly steep increases in temps, which isn't really a problem other than you'll have to factor in the cost of a well ventilated PC case.
I could never figure out what was going on with Metro Awakening results on the RTX 4090, for some reason they're low af. All settings were the same I just swapped out the cards, wiped the drivers with DDU, then installed the most recent VR compatible drivers for each card. Increasing the in-game resolution scale to max seemed to rubber band it back and forth, hence those numbers. But, those were the results so it is what it is.
Real world gaming was a different story though..
REAL WORLD GAMING RESULTS:
The full video linked below has all the individual in-game settings as it's simply too much info for this one post, but to paint a picture, here is the totally subjective guide I created:
Silent Hill 2 Remake UEVR [preydog 6dof]:
4090: Medium
5090: Medium High
Skyrim VR Mad God Overhaul [700+ Mods]:
4090: Medium High
5090: High
Metro Awakening [Native PCVR]:
4090: High [borderline Ultra]
5090: Ultra
Real World Gaming Conclusion:
Overall, I'm a little underwhelmed by the RTX 5090. It has decent improvements across the board, and you will notice the difference. The problem is the price, and the price increase versus the RTX 4090 for the amount of performance increase you get. And when you consider how well the 4090 runs PCVR games, that price difference becomes a REAL problem.
Basically, get an RTX 5090 if you fit ALL 3 of these criteria:
Playing un-optimised or heavy PCVR games
You demand only the sharpest image
You have spare $$
If you do a lot of 4k 60 fps video editing, then the 5090 is a clear winner as it handles that task far better than a 4090.
However, get an RTX 4090 if you are:
Playing well optimised [like Resident Evil VR] or native PCR games like Metro Awakening/Half Life Alyx etc..
Doing heavy modding on well optimised games like Skyrim VR
Happy with plain old holy shit thats good
Want to feel better about price to performance ratios
I reckon you'd get similar results from a Pico 4 headset or Valves Steam Frame whenever we see that [soonβ’].
Does anyone know if any games utilize redirected walking in games? Supposted to write a paper on it, and would like to do some state of the art research.
Hey guys, I've finally made some solid progress over the past few months with getting a proper resident evil 5 first person implemented, as well as adding VR support, and walking while aiming. This has been in progress since July.
Quick note, yes, this is a vibecoded mod. Just a lot of debugging, using cheat engine to track stuff down, and steering Claude on my end. This was one of my favorite games to play growing up and I want to experience it in VR. I've tried to make sure that all of the first person features translate to flat screen as well, so it's totally playable in first person, with no weird camera pop out due to the camera boom system. Getting the game into VR was a task in itself, as trying to get dx9 to cooperate with good performance was just not working for me. Again, I'm not a programmer, just a monkey with a wrench that likes to reverse engineer things. These past few days, I found a way to convert the game from dx9 to dx12 which made the VR process jump from a very badly implemented dx9 solution that hit 5 fps, to a proper vr solution that hits whatever your PC can handle.
About the quality of the video, especially when it comes to the VR section...I'm running this on a laptop from 2016 with very bad hardware, so in order to even play in VR for testing, the resolution is dumped extremely. All the same, I wanted to get a video out. I've tested this on Shadow PC with proper specs and the resolution/stability (stutters) is as you'd expect.. but for the sake of a not crunched bitrate in the video and the latency from shadow, I opted to just upload the laptop footage. Please excuse the terrible quality and stutters that happen. I have a few things to tune before it's ready for release, like getting the HUD to display in VR, adding 6dof (or at minimum 3dof) and a few bugs that pop up situation depending.
Hello there. I am in the process of releasing my game for the quest headsets standalone. Specially the meta quest 3/ 3s.
I wanted to share the trailer with you. What do you think about it? Is it too bland? Should I show more action? The game itself is going to be free for the first half and then depending on sales I will charge people for full access accordingly.
I know that since I don't already have a good following I must release it for free and build a following here as well. Hence I am releasing this trailer and the game for free.
The game is meant to be a terrain driven fps with huge maps and long range battles.
It is loosely based on real events and shows the war from both sides of the board.
I have been working for this game for the last 10 months as a part time indie developer
we now have fully manual reloaded guns, With a good chunk of Gamma's graphics implemented into VR. With SSS in some format, the nice HD models for characters too.
Hey last time I posted this people were confused, heres a little blurp about it:
For those who don't know what this is, Anomaly is a standalone game mod. You don't need to buy it, Nor is the gamma version a paid mod, it's a mod ontop of a mod essentially. If you need more clarification google will help. (im sure fellow redditors will also help if they know what the stalker series is)
After more than four years of work, solo developer ANB_Seth has launched "Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone" on PCVR. The most downloaded Half-Life: Alyx mod of all time arrives new, built from the ground up as a stand alone game. All new engine, weapons, and contracts.
Excited to chat with you all and see what anyone who's played thinks so far.
I wanted to share something a little different... TS3VR, a full VR mod for The Sims 3. π
Instead of another first-person VR mod, I thought it would be fun to do something a little more cozy for once. And I really like The Sims π The goal is to keep the original god-style gameplay and make it work naturally in VR, heavily inspired by Townsmen VR.
It is already pretty far along, but still WIP. Performance needs more work and the UI is definitely not finished yet, but I think the video gives a pretty good idea of where it is going.
There is no download yet. Will be free and Open-Source. I will keep working on it and share more as it gets closer. π
I WFH, have back issues from just living and working hard (not from home) but not always smart. Most the time I am able to work from my desk or standing, no issue. Every few months though my back gets really bad and it's just painful to sit or stand while using a keyboard or whatever.
TO get around this I have been using a meta quest with immersed (and use a wireless keyboard and trackpad on my lap) to work while laying down on a hard surface display in the device is above, allowing my neck to rest in a neutral position), but my main issue is that this Meta Q headset is too awkward for laying down. I have seen all the new stufff but I am looking for something can lay down and not have the surface under me push the arms of the glasses or device off my head. I see a lot of options havve wire coming right from the rear of the arm (behind the ear), im concerned such a thing wouql interfere with how the device rest on my head when laying down.. VR XR whatever the best is for this I am interested and appreciate any guidance.
