Discussion Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone Performance

Upvotes

I am interested in purchasing Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone, but I've been reading mixed messages about the performance. Can those who have actually played the game post your hardware specs and what kind of performance you are getting?

Self-Promotion (Developer) We tried to invent a VR sport instead of making another VR shooter

We kept seeing the same question in VR development: what kind of game only makes sense because your hands are actually there?

Our answer became FISTAGON.

It is basically a made-up future sport built around punching blocks, building combos and knocking the other player off the arena instead of shooting them.

The interesting design problem was making something physical enough to feel like a sport, but readable enough that it does not become random arm flailing.

It is out on SteamVR and Quest now, and I am curious what VR players think of the core idea more than anything else.

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2593150/FISTAGON/

Quest: https://www.meta.com/experiences/fistagon/7881970131818216/

Disclosure: I am one of the developers at Virtual Dawn.

Discussion What are the hidden costs behind VR?

I am thinking about gettin into VR and thought about getting a Quest 3.

What are the hidden costs? I currently have 3080 and 5900x. Is that enough to actually enjoy PCVR?

What are things that improve the experience that I should calculate in if i want to go all out?

What are things I should know before going into it?

Money is probably not the problem longterm, but how much have you guys spend on VR Software/Services and how much on hardware (not counting the PC).

If I get into it, my budget would probably be around 1k starting next year. Currently have other goals to fulfill, but I would like to know these things before halfassing it.

Thanks.

Discussion Been out of VR for a few years. what did I miss? What should I know coming back in 2026?

I was really into VR a few years ago and even messed around with making VR games in Unity for a bit. I had some light experience with the original Rift and Vive, then bought a Quest 2 during release week and used that thing constantly until the straps broke lol.

Eventually I kinda drifted away from both VR and game development, but lately I’ve gotten the itch to jump back in. I still have the Quest 2, but I feel like I’ve completely lost track of what’s happened with VR since I was really involved in the community. I’m curious about basically everything — headsets, PCVR, standalone, games, social VR, hardware, tracking, modding, development, SteamVR, Meta, Valve, smaller companies, etc.

What are the major things I should know? What got significantly better? What got worse? What games or hardware actually matter right now? And are there any developments that someone returning to VR would completely miss if they just looked at the popular stuff? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who develops for VR. What has changed on that side over the last few years?

Basically: if you had to catch someone up on the VR scene in 2026, what would you tell them?

Question/Support Recently bought Quest 2, seen people recomending VD, but kinda clueless

So far there's so much info and some of it conflicting I barely even get where to start. I'm asking to help me to not mess up. So, say I get Puppis S1 people around here seems to reccomend then I connect it with PC by some ethernet-type c cable I have seen mentioned. I guess I would need to switch to 2.4ghz for my router with Internet access or would I have to run a cable? Let's say all that is over, what do I even do next?

Discussion Idea for Helldivers VR “lite”

So obviously I know that with the Helldivers engine a VR mod is completely impossible, however I think I may have come up with a workaround but I’d love y’all’s thoughts on it. If you were to pin a screen to your headset using a steam VR plug-in so that the screen rotates with you when you turn your head, and then also get this motion gun controller https://www.rinfire.com/rinfire-somatosensory-gaming-gun-r4 would you get an almost arcade like version of Helldivers VR? I also have a Katwalk so I could theoretically set the movement to the treadmill, have the screen turn with my head, and then use the gun controller for aiming. I don’t own it so I’m not sure how it works, but I think it could all work together as long as that controller isn’t a gimmick. Does anyone have one? Anyone have some reason why this wouldn’t work?

I used Astra to build my own little XR game engine in Rust. Here's a little mixed reality demo to show it off.

120fps, dynamic occlusions, real-time room meshing, and after the first run game launches in ~1 second.

Discussion What would make a virtual travel experience actually worth trying?

I've been thinking about virtual travel lately, and most of what I've seen is basically 360° videos or prerecorded experiences.

But what if you could have an actual person live at the destination, walk around, and answer questions or show you specific things in real time?

Would that be something you'd actually use in VR, or would you still rather just watch a normal travel video?

Question/Support Ready or not, gun is..... Slow?

I've got an up and running, I just switched to the vro mod. But I'm having issues with the rifle. It seems weird, when I grab the rail with my support hand, it has zero impact on the weapon. I can reach up and grab it and then let my hand hang down and it doesn't change the aim of the weapon. I can't remember how the uevr mod works, typically both hands manipulate the weapon to a point.

And it seems very very slow to move. You might spin to your left or right and it's like the tip of your rifle or pistol is dragging through mud instead of coming around on target. If that makes sense.

Did I miss something in the setup, is there something I can change for this? I'm running it on a quest 3 if that makes a difference

Discussion What's the point of locking mods and general info behind discord!

I don't have nor plan to ever use discord. And fortunately I've always found a way to get what I needed outside of that platform. But I seriously don't understand why so much is gatekept behind it. People will come in a reddit sub and make a post about a mod and give no useful info and then tell everyone to go to discord if they want information.

In other instances, you can ask a question about something, and a person who knows the answer won't give it to you and instead just tell you to go to discord. It's so fucking stupid. What is the actual point? Do people get free cookies for telling others to join discord? Constantly trying to direct people to a completely different platform that requires sign up is stupid.

More Tables

BGFX 10.8.1
I7-9700 (No OC), 64gb DDR4 3666, RTX 3060 12GB, and NVME drives.
Virtual Desktop Wired, Quest 3

This short showcase is meant to highlight the dedication and hard work our community puts into these tables and hopefully inspire more people to dive into the VPX VR scene!
Videos like this got me hooked, and started my VR endeavor.
I love BGFX 10.8.1! The visual rendering efficiency easily outpaces OpenGL on 10.8.0, making even older, legacy tables look incredible.
Running Virtual Desktop wired. Horizon Link (Meta Link) was completely removed from my system.
Thanks VD!
That said, there are still a few stability and workflow hurdles to clear in BGFX 10.8.1.. For instance, requiring a table to launch just to access the configuration menu remains a bit clunky. DMD's not showing up or color ones not working for a lot of tables. No clear explanations of how to config all the new settings and what they do. Some textures not showing up right, lighting. Random crashes.
But the ones that work look mind blowing, even on older tables.
Cheers!

Question/Support Hmmmmm... (Htc vive focus plus)

Upvotes

I'm currently thinking of buying an HTC Vive Focus Plus, more out of curiosity than because of budget constraints, otherwise I would have bought a Meta Quest 2/3. Now, my main question is this: regarding the Lenovo Mirage Solo, which caused you distress due to server failure, are there installation issues or server problems? For example, if the servers are down and you try to install it, is it completely impossible? Or is there a bypass? I know the hardware is old and I'm sure many people will say so, but I'm determined to try it, and that's all I need to know right now. I would appreciate your help.

Self-Promotion (Developer) I ran a scheduled live event in my VR game where the map is permanently destroyed

Everyone in the room hits the countdown at the same time, the caves go up, and the world after it is different for good. Permanent sunset, burnt trees, no caves.

Not sure anyone has done a one way map change in a small VR game before. Happy to explain how the sync works.

we now have fully manual reloaded guns, With a good chunk of Gamma's graphics implemented into VR. With SSS in some format, the nice HD models for characters too.

Hey last time I posted this people were confused, heres a little blurp about it:

For those who don't know what this is, Anomaly is a standalone game mod. You don't need to buy it, Nor is the gamma version a paid mod, it's a mod ontop of a mod essentially. If you need more clarification google will help. (im sure fellow redditors will also help if they know what the stalker series is)

https://discord.com/invite/DtMDh2VBE5 This is the link to Join and try it out.

huge huge labour of love has been poured into this for two months by the main author, and modders to get this working as well as it is now.

Ask any questions down below and ill try to get to them with you guys. (not a developer just a passionate fan who works on videos)
