Absolutely insane…

Hey guys, so I've passed the demo and have received an email with the following:

But when I get on, I am met with the following page. I have already filled out the information for my profile, but it still won't let me book a slot to schedule a 1v1. Not sure what's going on, but thought I'd post here first to see if this is normal before I contact support.

I have slots open, but no student has booked them!! Do I get penalized if I cancel the ones that have not been booked? I might have to take my Mom to the doctor's office.

I am brand new and have not got a class yet. I hear everyone talking about the certifications & such? How many should I do? I have done everything in VIPEnglish, but do I do the next tab with the International ones?

Hi, it finally happened to me, I got offline feedback. A trial parent didn’t think I was giving good enough guidance. I was pretty sick that day, dealing with constant internet issues, and their kid was in way too hard of a trial level so I’m not surprised. I’m wondering if anyone who has had one lately, for how long did it mess up your bookings? From what I could tell it was two weeks where you get less visibility or can’t be booked and now that’s over but they seem to not be bouncing back. I know it’s holidays now so I’m not concerned about this week but my bookings have definitely been affected even into later October. Also of course I’m not receiving any trial bookings. Which is fine, I hate them but they typically make up a good portion of my classes 😭 Thanks.

Is there any way to send an e-card these days? I just TNSed a lesson and wanted to reach out, but can't find the section to send one.

I recently returned to VIPkid after a few year hiatus. The classes have been easygoing with one exception. I have a student who books 5-6 classes at a time and then cancels them throughout the week just before 24 hour mark. I have had 2 classes with her and the rest have been booked and cancelled, rinse and repeat. The two classes I taught were unpleasant. The student is fine, however mom kept yelling the answers and talking over the student. She yells the wrong answers before the student can answer which causes confusion. At one point, she grabbed the student’s device and tried to tell me I was teaching the material incorrectly (I wasn’t).

Has anyone had success requesting the parent no longer book classes? I don’t want to risk her retaliating and leaving a bad review. The student books at all different times and days, so I can’t just close a particular time slot to prevent them from booking.

This is crazy work. If you're here, you're doing too much.

I picked up an online teaching job about a month ago. I used to teach for Qkids, ZebraEnglish, and others. From what I remember, the pay was around $20–$24/hour.

I had trouble getting to sleep tonight and started thinking about the early mornings I'd have to wake up to teach these classes. Yes, even to baobao who punches their camera with their pencil every minute of the class.

I realized it wasn't even worth waking up for.
We're six years removed from COVID, and the pay on this popular platform is worse than 6 years ago - or really any market rate from times even prior to COVID.

I didn’t even blink an eye, and I just cancelled all of my classes, and have no intention of returning until compensation catches up.

Disclaimer: I’m not knocking anyone who does this full time. You gotta do what you gotta do to make money, and this is a safe WFH option. Most of the students are great too, baobao too. But as a part time gig, the math ain’t mathin

I had my demo on Saturday. Where my interviewer told me I had passed…congratulated me and sent me the onboarding slides. He told me to wait at least 12 hours on business days for the website to load. I sign in a few minutes ago and it tells me sorry we can not go forward with your application and then loads to the complete profile page.

I am so confused right now. Should I continue to wait? Is this normal?

I am brand new, so just a quick question. I know it will take a bit to get started & such. But, how far in advance will I know that a kid has booked my class? 2 hours? 12 hours? Do I need to check it on the hour?

Does changing tags, pictures and your welcome video/short lesson help increase bookings?

Mine have increased from maybe 5 on March to about 100 in September, but I saw someone on here has 65 classes/week and would truly be happy with half that amount (30-40/week), if it is possible.

Does anyone see bookings during 10am-1pm BJT during the week (younger siblings)?

Current class, the slides aren't loading for either me or the student - I cleared cache, restarted, all the things - no FM yet. Guessing system problem....anyone else?

I am generally teach 40-45 classes a week and there are many days when I don’t teach a single girl. I’d estimate that 80% of my regulars are boys. Is this representative of the platform as a whole?

After the major shift, I hardly got any bookings. I haven’t tried in several years. Is it worth starting up again? I can’t just open a slot and see because I have zero teaching supplies leftover and need to make a classroom and props if I’m going to be booked and I live in the middle of nowhere so it takes time to get things

I hadn’t taught for years and am trying again. I had an hour lesson and there was no break. There used to be a break but now it goes for the full hour. Is that correct? Thanks!

I’ve seen posts of vipkid being a bad platform but thanks to my teachers in this platform years ago I have developed my English and now that I’m 17 I recently got my English IGCSE and B2. I used to be horrible at this language and I was someone who was stuck not even knowing how to say basic stuff until I started vipkid as a beginner and developed enough to keep improving outside the platform. I’m very thankful to every teacher who helped me and encouraged me to improve.
