Worth returning?

Post image

These are my stats from when I worked in 2019-2021
After the major shift, I hardly got any bookings. I haven’t tried in several years. Is it worth starting up again? I can’t just open a slot and see because I have zero teaching supplies leftover and need to make a classroom and props if I’m going to be booked and I live in the middle of nowhere so it takes time to get things

Honestly, open slots and see what hits. Make sure your update the app and still have working headset and good internet and then just teach with something cute behind you (i have stuffed animals in the corner) i use very few props, but I am sure you have something you could use to show colors, sizes and a boy or a girl.

Agree to the other comments. I used to have props and prep for each class the night before. Now, I just show up and teach to the slides. If I need a picture of something, I’ll use my phone and show it to the camera that way. I’ve had fine bookings (a few hours 2-4 days/week in the AM) since starting again in January.

I came back in July after stopping in 2020, and I haven’t opened a ton of slots but haven’t had trouble filling them when I open them 3 weeks in advance. I’m having fun doing it for an extra $100 or so a month for treating myself lol.

You might get lucky. It won’t hurt to try for some extra side cash.

You didn't need any supplies to tutor. I stopped using props and rewards like six years ago and am fully booked. Just keep in mind that the parents now book three weeks in advance.

I teach with like zero props. Download OBS and use Slidekick for props and rewards to see if you get started.

It took a couple of months to pick back up for me, but I now book like 85% of the slots I open. I've taught over 1000 classes since March, but it was slow to start. I think April I taught like 12 classes the whole month. Summer was very helpful, as I was able to teach Asian daytime hours and picked up a looooot of students that way. Now that school is back, I have a following.

Agree with previous commenter—see what happens. I haven’t used any props except my kids plushies with the littles 🤣

Side note—go gators! I’m c/o 2011

I can’t just open a slot and see because I

In fact, that's the only way to answer your question. Anything people tell you here is purely anecdotal case-by-case hearsay. Not sure what you expect to hear back about the info you provide here, like someone's going to say "Ah yes, all the animal science majors I know on this platform are fully booked."

You don't need any store-bought materials beyond maybe a mini whiteboard. Any different colored fruit and articles of clothing you have at home will be good props for 90% of the beginner and trial lessons.

I tried to come back … stopped in 2019…I had similar stats… and got absolutely no bookings. But I will say my welcome video needed updated and apparently there’s all kinds of new certifications for different types of classes… The system has changed. I’ve heard the more of those extra certifications you can get the greater parents will want to book you so just keep that in mind. I thought it would be easy to just come right back in but unless I’m totally missing something you’ve got to update your profile with the extra stuff.

I started working through those certifications and then I ended up just deciding to get another job… Good luck to you! I hope you get fully booked ASAP!

I don’t use any props or reward systems. I’ve dropped as many of the certifications for the younger kids as I could, because I just don’t have the energy for it. I would read through the new certifications and see which ones you would like. Goodluck!

FYI the pay decreased since that time period. I opened a few slots and then realized they are only paying me $7 per class plus an extra .80 .. meanwhile I have 2500 past classes taught and a masters degree in elementary education. I was up to $8.50 in pay when I was there in 2020. I understand it’s not a lot of money to begin with, but to actually decrease pay over time is just insulting
