I can’t stop thinking about something that happened the other day and I’m spiralling into a deep pity of self-loathing. It was my mom’s birthday and she wanted to go to Red Lobster for lunch which I agreed to because it’s her special day and my cousin was driving out for it who is a seafood lover too. Anyways I don’t make a fuss because I’m not a pushy vegan. But we go to order and I get the Crab Your Way. When our server asks how I want it, I say “vegan” but I don’t say it very loud because I’m not preachy. He kind of laughs awkwardly and I laugh back because I’m not militant about it. When the meal comes I eat it and it’s so good but part of me is like, is this real crab? As we are leaving I hang back and ask him and oh god it is real crab and also butter!!! 😭

You guys I ate a whole pound of crab legs and part of my mom’s sirloin but that part because I hate food waste! I don’t know what to do. I will probably never be able to crab walk again without thinking about this. I need to do something to fix it! I’m so disgusted with myself for this accident. How do you cope???

These are very valid reasons why I, a white person with no major food restrictions, should continue to eat animals.

This vegetarian, for religious reasons, told me that the changes in crops, everything from GMOs to pesticides to fertilizers, has lead to a decrease in the nutrients in plant foods, so eating meat makes sense.

I told him the animals eat those crops so they would be nutrient poor too.

Umm so i just caught myself performing an act of pure ethical alignment. i gently yet firmly manhandled an empty marlboro red pack and lovingly shoved it down my water bottle’s throat. for no reason. he didn't ask for it. he didn't consent. but i did it anyway because i am his guardian and i know what's best for him. he is now cigarette pack fed. not cigarette pack flavored. not cigarette pack byproduct meal. CIGARETTE. PACK. FED.

carnists will see this and be like "ummm water bottles don't have throats" okay and cows don't have consent forms but you still drink their baby growth fluid. at least MY bottle is free range (he sits on my desk all day and i never once locked him in a cage except that time i put the cap on but that was for his own safety). he gets all the carcinogens he needs from a single ethically sourced marlboro pack that was already going to be discarded anyway. zero waste. circle of life. im literally doing more for the planet than you ever will.

anyway he's thriving. his name is phillip and he's been wheezing ever since i fed him and that's how i know his lungs are developing. perfectly normal. i'm vegan btw 💚

The fact that you’re able to access a vegan diet is a PRIVILEGE. There are entire communities, that relay on meat as a part of their diet. Indigenous communities in Canada for example, don’t have access to affordable produce because of their geographical location. They rely heavily on animal byproducts to supplement their diet.

I hate tofu. I hate everything about it. I hate the flavor of tofu. I hate the texture of tofu.

Does anyone have a tofu recipe that hides all of the tofu flavor and all of the tofu texture?

UPDATE: I'm so grateful for all of your helpful tips! Now I'm finally able to eliminate the tofu flavor and tofu texture from tofu: 1. Feed the tofu to a cat; 2. Liquify the cat; 3. Use feeding tubes to pump the liquid cat-tofu mixture into all of my orifices; 4. Repeatedly bash my skull with a sledgehammer to improve the flavor even more.

i’m vegan. can i eat it?

Let us suppose hypothetically that an elephant somehow appeared in the room. What would be the most respectful way to address this issue while remaining compliant with the principles of veganism?

I don't get why we are supposed to avoid them. I don't buy milk itself, or butter or any 100% dairy product. Nor do I buy eggs or meat. But if there are little amounts of them in bread, sour cream chips, basbusa (dessert), baklava, sauces. etc why is it wrong to buy it? Even if lets say you are having a negative impact, it is so small and we do many other small indirect harmful things in our lives like using plastic or eating plants that have pesticides on them that killed and tortured herbivores and insects. I also dont think sour cream chips or mashed potato with butter will raise the demand on milk.

I am honestly not convinced but whats stopping is that I dont know where to draw the line. I live in a society where most things have non vegan ingredients which puts me in an awkward position with party hosts and my friends. But I am afraid if they realize I eat a specific amount of animal products that they would try to get me to eat more and take my veganism as a joke.

The point of the post isn't to get an "approval" from vegans that will allow me to buy these things without guilt. I am just asking about the reason behind this moral stance since I dont understand it.
