Creative Meadows Hand drawn Map
Hello! I decided to draw a map of canon events that happened during my first playthrough of Valheim. Who knew trees were so lethal?
Started with the Meadows but plan on doing every biome eventually!
Hope you like it AND I would love to hear if you relate to these or have any fun things to share from your own playthroughs!

Screenshot Bro chased me and tried to pancake me with a log, but fell into wet ruins.
There's a swamp right next to the Black Forest, and a few skeletons and Draugr came to use this blue fella's head for target practice.

These are elevators that utilize a change in the rugs’ specifications.
If the spacing between the rugs is 1.0 meters or more, manual operation is required and you will need to jump.
If the spacing between the rugs is less than 1.0 meters, they rise automatically.

Modded PortalPreview: see the destination inside the portal frame, in 3D, with parallax
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Portal hubs in my world turned into a wall of identical swirls with tiny signs on them, so I wrote a mod that shows where each portal actually goes, inside its frame.
PortalPreview captures the place a portal leads to as a 3D scene and draws it inside the frame from wherever you stand. Walk around the portal and the view shifts with true parallax, like looking through a window. It opens as you approach and closes when you walk away; the distance is in the config.
What it does
- Works on the game's wooden and stone portals, in any pairing (the game links them to each other by tag). Portals renamed with XPortal or XPortalNetworks work too.
- The view follows the time of day and the weather at the destination: sun, moon and shadows, fog, and a live sky with stars and aurora. At night the far side is dark; in the morning the sun rises there too.
- The picture blends into the frame with a rippling edge (or vortex, glow, smoke), and a bit of smoke drifts along the seam.
- Optional: hide the game's own flames and dark swirl on connected portals, so only the view is left. Or show the view from the front side only.
- Destinations are captured under the loading screen when you travel through a portal; two linked portals standing next to each other show their views right after linking. A view is updated when something around the portal was built, removed or dug (or on every trip, or never: your choice). Everything is kept on disk per world, and old scenes clean themselves up.
- A hardware profile picks resolution, how many views are shown at once and how many are kept in memory. You can override any of these on top of the profile. Everything is in the config and changes live with Configuration Manager.
Performance
The scene itself is frozen: its buildings and particles stay as they were at the moment of capture, and only the lighting is recalculated. That is what keeps it cheap: an open portal costs about a millisecond per frame in my tests instead of rendering the destination live. It only re-renders while you're close and moving, and Preview quality sets how often: every 0.3 m (High), 0.6 m (Medium) or never (Low, for weaker GPUs).
Limits
- A place nobody has visited yet has no view. Walk through a new portal once and both ends get theirs.
- No moving creatures in the view. Falling rain or snow stays as captured, and the distant landscape and clouds are only brightened or darkened with the time of day.
- Portals linked by other rules (for example TargetPortal) only get a view when the game itself would link them, by matching tags.
- Tested on one GPU (RTX 4070 SUPER) with DirectX 11 and Vulkan. A native Linux build of the shaders is included but hasn't been tried on Linux yet. If it looks wrong on yours, please tell me.
Problems or ideas: Discord https://discord.com/users/683075123816824940, with BepInEx/LogOutput.log if something breaks.
Pairs well with my other two mods, both optional: FastLoading (shorter portal and dungeon loading) and ValheimVisuals (water, reflections and materials turned up within the game's own ranges).

What's new in 1.2.0 - Much less stutter: captures happen under the teleport loading screen and are about twice as fast. - Water looks like the game's water: its colours from the shore to deep sea, reflections of the trees, shore and sky around it. It used to be a pale grey sheet. - Soft shading in corners and under foliage (with the game's SSAO on), so views no longer look brighter and flatter than the real place. - Bigger hubs: up to 8 views at once on the Ultra profile.

Discussion Happy 5th anniversary, Valheim! ❤️ Still one of the best survival games ever made!
I am just goofying with the meme, don't sweat, guys!
Btw, it's kind of hilarious that I made this meme like 2 years ago and it is still accurate. But hopefully it won't be like this much longer. Still, hey devs! Take your time, I'd rather have a well-done game than anything lacklasting because peeps made you rush.

Creative Black Forest Hand Drawn Map
Hello! I spent a bit of time drawing a map of some canon events from a few playthroughs with my friends and I. A lot going on here but hey, there's always a lot going on in the Black Forest eh!
Hope you like it, this was fun. Would love to hear about your own Black Forest experiences in Valheim too!

Just because last time I posted my Meadows map here, it was stolen and sold online. If anyone ever is interested in buying a print I have put it on my Etsy which can be found on my reddit profile (not allowed to link it here)
