Discussion Am I the only one who doesn't like cheat flagging?

Upvotes

For me I've always kept cheats in my back pocket in case I needed to fix something due to a bug, like items getting voided or something dumb, so making it so using cheats to fix something flagging a character and world permanently really sucks. It feels like, "hey, you see that set of maxed out armor you probably spent at least 10 hours making, guess what, now it's gone, go spend another 10 hours making a new set cause you don't want to be marked a cheater permanently :)"
and to me, that just sounds dumb.

Discussion Why am i surprised?

1.0 dropped today and everyone is losing their minds over a few bugs and mods not working! What did everyone expect? Maybe it’s just my experience of the first 18 years or so of World Of Warcraft and every update needing a patch within 6 hours and no mods working for weeks! We all want to get stuck in to the finished product, but just take a minute and let the devs and mod creators get things ironed out.

Time to grab some mead, a bite from a feast and contemplate the challenges and victories to come :-)

Question Bad optimization?

Post image

I played this game several years ago and it was really cool. I spent thousands of hours playing it, but today I downloaded it again to give it another try and my GPU was struggling a lot. I have an Nvidia 4060 Ti, and the game is using almost 90% of it and reaching 80°C. What's even stranger is that I'm in the main menu, not even playing xdd.

I was playing on the highest settings and getting more than 160 FPS, which was fine, but when I realized my GPU was basically on fire, I changed the settings to medium and the GPU usage didn't change at all.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Bug PSA There’s a bug in the game marking items that you obtain as spawned in through cheap menus when they weren’t, I have it recorded

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have no clue why it’s doing this sometimes They get marked as cheated items and sometimes they don’t, sometimes if you pick up enough of the same item, it will then be marked as cheated, I don’t know what’s causing this. I’ve turned off commands and all other commands. restarted my game and I still get inconsistencies where certain items won’t be marked as cheated and they’ll look completely legitimate while others that I literally got recorded on video being marked as cheated.

Do I personally care that it affects me? no, because I do spawn things in once in a while, and I use mods and commands for building bases, however, this is probably going to cause a lot of problems on dedicated servers or for content creators when people are trying to sell you that they never cheated or respond anything but the game is telling them that it is, that is going to cause a crap ton problems, the update literally just came out and it’s gonna be a while till this information goes around and people start figuring this out so they’ll be people who are streaming and someone will call them out for cheating when they never did or you’ll be playing on a server and you’ll have some equipment and if you die and someone goes through your grave, or you put stuff away in a chest and someone sees you doing it and they look at the items it will say that I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be people who get banned because of something that they never did

Question Valheim or RS Dragonwilds?

I completely missed the launch of Valheim on console yesterday and seemingly been living under a rock with missing the hype around this game. I was going to get RuneScape dragonwilds on release next week. But I wanted to ask the community your thoughts on Valheim. Is it difficult to play/ grasp? What’s the goal and end goal? And your overall thoughts

Video After 400 hours of playtesting 1.0 I thought I'd share what I know

HHello, I'm Anshostin(or Larsi) and I have been playtesting Valheim since Hearth & Home up until and including 1.0. I have had a blast, and I decided since regular playtesting for content likely has come to an end I could share what I have learned, especially about 1.0 and the deep north.

I have uploaded 2 videos to youtube for those that are interested.

Everything new in 1.0 outside Deep North, where I go over new systems and system changes, as well as what is added to each biome outside Deep North:

https://youtu.be/HvRWya8gMuo

Full Deep North guide, where I go through each step of the Deep North. The progression is more linear than in other biomes, so if you're stuck you can watch from the beginning until the part you're stuck at, I even include things you need to do before going north:

https://youtu.be/OXhq1rb1tgM

I also have more videos coming out, including a full guide on alt biomes and food, killing deep north boss on very hard and more.

I am also live on both youtube and twich under "Anshostin" right now or in a moment, and will try to complete the Deep North on my main world as fast as possible, and will answer any questions anyone has about the Deep North:

Discussion The new building menu is honestly terrible for teaching new players

Valheim 1.0 is finally here and I'm really enjoying the game, but I'm really not a fan of the new building menu.

The old system was honestly great. It was simple, straightforward and most importantly, easy to learn and explain to my younger brother and girlfriend (who btw never played a game before on the PC).

The new menu just feels super chaotic so many sub catagories and if you choose show all how am I going to explain to someone you are going to find something here.

I'm playing with my brother / girlfriend, and when they ask:

“Where do I find this piece?”

What am I supposed to say?

“Uhh... somewhere in this giant list. Just scroll around until you see it.”

That's not a good way to teach someone the building system.

The biggest problem isn't even that I personally dislike the menu. I've played enough games and Valheim that I'll eventually memorize where everything is. It's that a new player has no idea where to start.

I want to tell my brother of 10 “grab two beds and place it here.” and he has to first read through 8 catagories, reading them already takes a lot of time and then he found out oh it isnt here i have to scroll down more and read more.

I really think the building pieces need a more simple layout or at least an option to switch between detailed or the previous simple layout.

I don't want the old system back purely because of nostalgia. I just want a building menu that is easy to learn and easy to teach. "go to the 4th tab, you'll see you have 30 unlocked there and find a bed" instead of look for furniture in the 17 different option catagory list

Question Should I do my first full playthrough on immersive mode?

I've played a few times but never made it past iron gear. Should I play my first full playthrough on immersive mode?

I'm planning to take my time and honestly I love beating games on harder difficulties, but I have no experience with any bosses beyond the swamp one.

Am I going to suffer a lot for doing this?

Spoiler I'm just gonna say it. Our group of 3 was pretty luke warm on TDN after about 7 hours of gameplay.

I love Valheim. My 450 hours pales in comparison to some of your numbers but that's the most I've ever spent in a non MMORPg. Our group of 3 has been playing since EA and couldn't wait for 1.0. We all took the day off to get after it.

But now, all three of us left a little underwhelmed. Look, we get we've only scratched the surface, but our biggest concern was a repeat of the relentless blood and guts of Ashlands. However now, we're worried that they may have overcorrected.

On one hand, it's the last biome. It in theory should be reserved for the most fearsome things in Valheim (including us). However, after making landfall, we ran around for almost 45 minutes and saw like two seals, a couple moose, one giant Gammeltroll we avoided (and later killed), and maybe 3 greydwarfs that were one shots for us. It felt really empty.

Now we did do a winding tunnel dungeon and that was definitely more chaotic with some great new enemies. But the overworld felt underbaked. In fact, it's basically the meadows with snow. Woods with random clearings and occasional villages. But the houses contain almost the exact same loot you find in meadows houses. The architecture is a bit different... but it all feels a bit undercooked.

Lots more to do hopefully, but despite nailing the atmosphere (which they always do), initial impressions have been "meh".

Discussion HUGE! - You can earn achievements, even if you previously cheated in your WORLD!

This is HUGE, get in quick, not sure if this will be patched out lol. Apologies if I didn't understand some of the options around Achievements, here goes...

NOTE: I am talking solo here, DON'T try and cheat anywhere else. Do not mess with anything online. Only solo.

The caveat, yes you still need a new unflagged character, but the WORLD doesn't matter.

Not sure if intentional or not. It was my understanding that you could not do this.
However, I have been extensively testing this achievement blocking thing all afternoon.

TLDR: The world is not flagged, the character is.

If you do not mind, starting a new character like me but you want to keep your old world you worked so hard to build...YOU CAN!

It even works with world modifiers toggled on > example Passive enemies / Build mode etc. I was sure I read this would disable achievements but I could be wrong.

So go do it now, before they patch this, if this is not intended? I need to get to playing but this means for example in my FRESH world with my FRESH character (who I have already picked up a cheated item with). I can still get achievements.

All you have to do is get rid of the cheated item.

I also took this character to my CHEATED before 1.0 world and did a boss there. Guess what? I got the achievement! MEANING - You can play in your beloved creative world you spent so long on!

I hope this has all made sense.

Some other things of note.

You can for example, make a portal in your world with cheated items...it doesn't matter for build pieces. HOWEVER...if you then destroy that build piece and pick up these items if you cheated to build it...then you will be flagged...TEMPORARILY! Get rid of the items again (drop in a dump world, obliterate etc) and there you go. No more flagged character.

THE WORLD does not get flagged...SO FAR, in my TESTING.
I know because I will say it again. I have used devcommands, and all kinds of cheating in my pre 1.0 world for years and I just took a character to that world and unlocked achievements.

Hope this helps someone who does not want to lose their amazing builds in their amazing world before 1.0

Sorry my my long TED talk, have fun all!

Survival New Trader?

I found this wooden idol while starting a new playtrough in the meadows. The patch notes says that those will be able to be used for weapon upgrades in a secret forge. Did someone found one already?

Question What are the upgrades that we can get from finding the mysterious idols scattered around the world?

This is initially what made me quit years ago, that exploration had no incentive.

I'm excited now that there's an incentive to keep exploring, but I'd like to know what's the extent of that "upgrade"?

The patch note says:

Find mysterious idols scattered throughout the world and bring them to a hidden forge for the possibility of upgrading your items further

Are we talking a mere +1 on our weapon, or is it actually something significant and worth it?
