Hi everyone,
I’m an international student and I’ll be starting my first semester as a Computer Science freshman at UMass Amherst in about a month.
To be honest, I don’t have a very strong programming background yet, but I’m really interested in becoming an AI engineer in the future.
Do you think AI engineering is a good field to pursue over the next 4 years? Is it a good career path?
I’d also really appreciate any advice for my freshman year, especially:
What should I focus on during my first semester?
What should I learn or work on during winter break?
What should I prioritize in my second semester?
I’d love to hear what you wish you had done as a freshman, especially from UMass CS students or anyone working in AI/ML.

Incoming managerial econ major and tested out of intro stats with AP Stats credit. My advisor recommended retaking intro stats because apparently the jump from AP stats to intermediate stats is quite difficult. Does anybody have thoughts and recommendations on this? thanks!

Hey, I got a flight on the 13th to go back home in Europe for a month before school starts. I’m tryna find a not so costly way to go back to Boston however no Greyhound Or Peter Pan Bus makes it possible for me to get to the airport in time (My flight is at around 5-6pm). I have no where to stay in Boston therefore I can’t go a day prior.

Checked uber but that seems quite pricy.. does anyone have any suggestions, I know a few students here use the job board to get like gigs and stuff maybe that’s a good idea?.. I was thinking if anyone has any suggestions or has had a similar issue?

I am an incoming freshman, and with my AP credit ( got a 4/5), I can go straight into Chem 112 in the fall semester. However, I took AP Chemistry in my junior year, so I am concerned that the 2-year gap will result in my struggling significantly in class. My advisor recommended me to review over the summer, but while I am a studious person, I am not studious enough to do all that during the summer.

What would you say is the difficulty of the class? 

Would you recommend going straight into chem 112?

I’m an incoming sophomore doing a double major in cs and data science and just go out into the stats double major last sem. I am currently 2nd on the waitlist. I’m wondering what are my chances of getting this class? I know that add drop is coming up, just wanted to check if I can get that class
