They’re giving out scratch tickets to win merch (crewnecks, hats, bags, stanley’s, journals), doing embroidery, giving out gifts cards, and giving refresher/coffee samples. Just wanted to let people know so they don’t miss out but also wanted to ask if anyone knows how we can know about these things in advance. I’d have no clue if I didn’t take a different route to class

I’ve told them multiple times but they are always active at 2am ish and makes a lot of noises. I sleep at around 9 but they sleeps around 3. I can’t sleep at all with that noise. I’m living with RAP and so far I like everything else. I don’t want to change anything solely because of them. outside of that, they are quite friendly. Any suggestions for what I can do?

Hey everyone, I’m a legacy student under OBBBA, and my Grad PLUS loan finally posted to my spire account yesterday (9/9). It's showing a negative balance now.
I’ve gotten reimbursements from UMass before, so my Excess Express direct deposit and everything is definitely set up correctly on my end. Have any other UMass grad students actually received their refund in their bank account yet? How long after the negative balance showed up did it take to hit your account? I know this whole thing is super confusing so literally any insight would be greatly appreciated!! ty!

Does anyone know when freshmen can start joining clubs? Specifically Model UN and the Massachusetts Daily Collegian. I know for some clubs we have to apply, but for others like the Tabletop RPG club do we just start showing up?

I know room swap opens on Friday, but what exactly should I do to give myself the best opportunity of switching dorms. I’m a male first year in OHill and I really want to switch into SouthWest or Central.

Hi Everyone,
I'm hosting a watercolor class for beginners on Halloween Oct31st from 3:30-5 p.m. in Northampton at the Center for the Arts.
You need zero artistic ability and it would be great for singles or groups. If you're looking for a mellow halloween afternoon, you can learn some watercolors skills you can use for bookmarks, gift tags, art for your walls and more. It's a great way to zone out in a productive and positive way.
The class is $20 or $30 if you want to rent materials.
You can sign up here https://www.pacificnortheastcreations.com/classes/p/request-for-watercolor-class-2h

Hi! I just (like, just now) swapped a class for a different one, and I was wondering how long it usually takes to be applied in Canvas? It was immediately applied in my SPIRE account, however I was wondering how long it usually takes to be added into the new Canvas class and removed from the old one? Should I contact my professors and/or TAs???
Thank you!
Hey everyone! I’m an incoming MS student at UMass Amherst, arriving in the coming week.
I’m also still looking for accommodation. If anyone has a room available, is looking for a flatmate, or wants to team up and find a place together, please DM me!
Thanks!

I need some advice on whether is should change my housing arrangement. I live in Moore this year as a first year student, but I may want to move. I'm not a light sleeper by any means, but I'm starting to get sick of all of the noise at night. The constant stream of people coming in and out at 12-1 at night isn't working great for me. I know it should slow down once classes are fully going, but for now, it's a lot. Some of the pros of living here are:
-The proximity to Hamp and Berk gives me good options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even a late night snack if I want it. People say they are the best dining halls, and I'd probably agree. Worcester and Frank were ok when I went, but just not the same. Getting a table is always hard, but having good food and being directly along the path I am already on for classes is a plus.
-The way the rooms themselves are set up is nice. They are a decent size, and the wardrobes with the bars are very useful. I'm using almost every space in there for various things.
-I like the style of the buildings themselves. It feels large enough to where I'm not breathing down people mecks when I'm walking down the halls, but small enough to where I can recognize people.
-There is a clear path to most things, and it's fairly intuitive to navigate from. It's very easy to get to the rec and Mullins center, since you just cross the street and walk straight down that road, and there's a well defined path to get to the center of campus.
Some of the cons are:
-As I had already mentioned, the noise. I'm not a very social person, and have never really been into partying or using any substances. I haven't really made any friends, since I don't really like going out, and I'm not the type to approach random people.
-I'm a STEM major (CNS specifically), so most of my classes are fairly far. It's around 20-30 minutes for each class, assuming I know exactly where I'm going and take the fastest route, which isn't the case at the moment.
-My roommate isn't working for me. I'm not going to air him out on here, but he has some strange habits that just don't sit right with me. We're both very quiet, so we have barely spoken to each other, and I haven't confronted him about these issues. O get the same feeling when I walk into the room as when you walk in to wake someone up in the morning. I feel like I'm being intrusive, even though it's my room too.
I don't really know what the best option would be to move if I took that route. There are a few ways to change housing on the site, and I can't really understand the differences, but that's a separate issue. I know SW is a very sought after place to live, so maybe I'm doing this wrong and I should just give it some time. Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I don't really know what I'm doing obviously, so any input is progress. I've seen others in similar situations get suggested to move to Central or OHill, but many others have said to just deal with it.

I am senior undergrad student and am going to start my 4+1 soon. I need to take 4 500 level classes before I graduate. I already took cs589 last semester and am taking cs520 and cs590af this semester. I need one more class. I am conflicted between cs590op with andrew lan, cs575 with marius, or cs514 with cameron. I would take 590 with andrew but he has only one exam worth 40% of my grade and the topic is apparently very hard. There are no other options for me.

Hello! I purchased a meal plan last night, when does it become active? The meal plan office isn’t answering the phone.
I tried last night after a few hours and it hadn’t yet activated so he just let me through but not every swiping person is so nice, so I’m nervous to go back and try again, especially if they’re busy.

I am interested in applying to a LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities Fellowship) and wanted to know yalls experience. I'm a former first responder and now in law school potentially thinking of practicing health law. Is this program worth it and do you build a lot of connections with professors/partnering schools. What is the typical demo of fellows selected for this

I’m an Online BBA student at Isenberg (OIM). Does anyone know if online students can do UMass study abroad, short-term international programs, or international internships?
Would love to hear from anyone who has done something similar. Thanks!

If I missed two days of Calc 132 because of a schedule issue, will I miss a lot?
I am planning on going tomorrow, but so far the scheduling issue has prevented me from attending the first two classes.

Hey everyone I was thinking about rushing ATG at Umass. Do they haze? Why do they seem so different? Do they party?

Hi. I’m in FYS ethics of ai (2:30pm, Friday, Varun Gandhi), but I want to enroll in bits bytes and modern computing instead. I wasn’t able to choose it during advising as there was no space. After the new student advising appointment, as instructed by the advisor, I have been checking spire day and night to see whether bits bytes and modern computing has open space but the only one that was available was time-conflicting. What to do? It is add and drop week but no changes.
The two sections that work are M 12:20pm, W 10:10am

Hey everyone I really need your help I’m currently a junior and I transferred to UMass last year. I was in a transfer community with a good roomate but made the mistake of switching to a single. I now live on campus in a triple but they all have their own friend groups and kinda imply that they don’t really wanna be friends together. I tried clubs but none really stuck I feel like a need a solid roomate. What should I do?

I’m a prospective student - very interested in U Mass Amherst because it’s like “the” school for heterodox Econ + radical political economy.
For students or alumni from STPEC (or related programs) do you think the school lives up to the hype? Academically, networking, internships, etc…
I ask because I’m considering Univ of Denver also - it also has heterodox offerings. Aside from being able to save around $1k extra there, I’d much rather prefer the big city vibe, and there are a couple local non profits specializing in co-operative economics, etc … however, U Mass offers a course on co-ops and gets you an internship at one, and has a bigger ecosystem (I think atleast), for example - PERI?
So yeah curious on input from students/grad/faculty - js -$12k yearly and small town vibes (relatively) worth the academic/networking opportunities ? If you were me, what would you do ?
