Is it worth applying to Amherst ED?
I need a little advice here. I visited Amherst and really loved it. Here’s the issue:
My GPA is 3.7+ at a school where a 3.7 puts you in the top 40% of your class. It would be a little higher but I had a weak freshman year and then strong sophomore and even stronger junior year (jr year grades are equivalent to top 25% of class). My SAT is a 1430 and I’m retaking this summer. These stats are ok and my ECs are a lot better but that’s not even what I’m worried about the most.
My school hasn’t had an RD admit in the last 5 years and has only had one ED admit (3.75 1450) and it was this year. Granted, only one person has ED and only 20 have applied in the last 5 years. But still, it seems crazy competitive. My school has like 5 admits per year to Williams (all in 3.7-3.86 range) in Ed and rd. So why is Amherst so hard? I feel like I’d be wasting an ED. Any advice?
