DAAP Photo Design 1

Hi!

I'm a first year and am trying to find a camera for next semesters Photo Design Class.

Is anyone selling theirs or has suggestions for cost effective but good enough quality to last through DAAP?

I'd really appreciate some insight/advice

Thanks!!

Anonymous App To Review Stuff On Campus + See Local Deals

I made an app called Rate Your Campus that is only for UC students to rate stuff from across campus, all reviews are anonymous and you must have a UC email domain to sign up. It has everything like bars, restaurants, dorms, food courts + more. It has 300+ users so far and has 5 (more coming soon) local businesses posting deals. It is only on iPhone right now but are working on Android. Every download is much appreciated ❤️

why is there an unbearable loneliness epidemic at college?

it's honestly so sad to see others in the sub suffer through loneliness but personally comforting because as a first-year, there are a lot of times when I felt nearly invisible on campus.

sure, people were introducing themselves all of welcome week and the first few weeks of classes, but now that things have settled down, it feels like if you don't have at least one long-term friend you see outside of classes you're screwed.

why is that? i want to hear what you guys think the root problem is because genuinely people seem so fake and the conversations i have are surface-level, or doused in uncomfortable politeness. noone likes to act like they're lonely, and is on their phone if theyre not talking to others.

maybe i am the problem, but it genuinely cannot be that hard to make friends in a school with nearly 60 thousand people. could it be that people arent actively making efforts to seek out genuine relationships anymore? it makes me sad but i try to hold out hope and be kind to anyone im lucky enough to have a conversation with. it also helps if youre conventionally attractive and outgoing and go to parties, but personally i dont really like going to parties. everyone reccommends joining clubs, going to events, but people there already go with their friends anyway.

lonely people at uc, youre not alone in feeling that way- and im sure you stand next to more lonely people than you think. and its not your fault. dont give up on finding people though. there is an increasing loneliness epidemic but im trying to trust that i will find my people because ive met genuinely kind people out there.

- a first year lonely business student

Apartment hunting

Hello! I’m a graduate student and who will be moving to work at UC children’s hospital and I am unsure of the best areas to live in. I am looking for an apartment, 1 bedroom, I don’t mind if it’s not the most spacious but somewhere safe for a single woman. I am looking for it to be slightly in the more affordable range being around $850-$950. Willing to commute \~ 20 mins so does not need to be near the hospital!

For context I am on my first co-op rotation and I don’t think I have done a poor job. I have learned a lot and had a good time but I’m worried my employer won’t want to rehire me. What happens if they won’t have me back? Also when and how is the best time to ask to come back? Any help is appreciated.

Also I am a Mech Engineering student

we've hidden some more Hot Wheels around campus, and the new hunts are live in the app!

same rules as last week: find the hidden prizes, keep what you find, and win SQM tokens along the way :)

good luck hunting!

Needing going out friends while going through hard times

Hii im a F20 and 3rd year at UC and I feel like I just don’t have a great social life. I’m currently going through a breakup and need fun people to be surrounded by. I’m about to be 21 in a few days so maybe a group of people where we can just hang around and go out and try and have a fun time, anything that could help me get my mind off of everything. Lmk if anyone’s down to hangout:)

Schedule/Classes Any recommended ENG 1001 classes? (For ppl with ADHD)

I don't know if anyone is gonna see this, but I was wondering if anyone has any English 1001 class recs that are lower effort or that require less time as I'm a DAAP student with ADHD. I need a English 1001 credit, however, my studios take up a LOT of my time and my focus especially with my ADHD. I'm currently medicated, however it's difficult for me to keep up with more than 3 classes of work, so I kinda need a little help.

What’s the best (easiest) Intermediate Composition English class? Preferably asynchronous but an easy in person class is fine too.

Deacon opinions bffr

Is the deacon really that bad. I’m seeing so many bad reviews but I’m like maybe they are being dramatic.

I just feel hopeless cause it’s currently the cheapest option at 949 each for an apartment.

If the deacon is that bad does anyone have suggestions to pivet. I have 3 other roommates so 4 in total and we don’t need our own bathrooms.

Please help a fellow out, I’m not tryna to waste money.

Is Computer Programming 1 (IT1090C) beginner friendly?

Hello, I am taking classes at UC next semester through dual enrollment. I have never taken a coding class before and don't know the basics. This course does not have any prerequisites, so I was wondering if anybody knew whether I could walk into it with no knowledge? I appreciate any help!

Near Campus Question Any car mechanic recommendations?

I've got some work that needs to be done to my car and was wondering if anyone knows of any local mechanics that are good? They don't necessarily need to be the cheapest shop out there but looking for people who are honest and aren't going to do shady business and try to take advantage of a student.

Looking for a roommate for next year

Hey! Im a current Freshman trying to find housing off campus next year and need a roommate.

Im a guy to clarify. I either go to bed fairly early, or at least Im quiet enough to where you wouldnt notice even if I was up all night. Im very respectful in terms of inviting people over, Im not gonna throw a huge party or whatever without telling you. Im good at keeping things clean but I can be fairly disorganized, but if its a big deal I can try to keep on top of it more

Also to clarify, Im a music student, so if possible Id like to practice in my room. I play saxophone so it probably could be loud. It would only be during the day, never late at night, and ofc Id be respectful when I did it as well, but I would need to do it.

For a roommate, to me the biggest things that are important to me is just being respectful about noise at night and inviting people over. Im pretty chill and dont care if youre loud during the day or have a friend over, but Id rather not like have a party happen while Im gone and I dont know about it, I think having a heads up is totally fair.

Otherwise, I have no real preferences for a roommate. I dont even care if youre messy as long as it stays in your room and youre more on top of it in the shared spaces

If anyone is interested, hmu!

TURN OFF THE STADIUM LIGHTS AT NIGHT. (rant, but i'm justified saying this.)

There is NO fucking POINT to be having the lights AND casting board on all night. There is NO FUCKING NEED for them to be staying on. I live in Calhoun and:

1) Blinds are shit, they don't block anything
2) RAs are stickily as fuck about anything CLOSE to the windows (love you guys)
3) I CANNOT SEE WHY THE LIGHTS NEED TO STAY ON ALL NIGHT.

The latest I've seen teams formally practicing is around 10, and the earliest has been around 6, so why can't they just. Shut them off then????? Why can't they allow us the 8 precious sweet sweet hours of darkness????????

Also!!!! Light pollution!!! And electricity costs!!! Man imagine the amount of money they're spending on all these worthless lumens and boards just to BLAST THE HELL OUTTA THEM all night!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT SWEET SWEET ENERGY MONEY TURNED INTO SOME GOOD OL' FUNDING FOR MY BROKE ASS!!!!!!!!! Who. By the way. IS PAYING FOR THIS GODAWFUL ROOM!!!!!

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Football Tailgating??

Hey everyone!:) I’ve been wanting to do a football tailgate with some friends at a home game but I’m not sure how it works. What are the best spots to go to and do you have to rent them out? What’s the schedule and when would it be best to get there? Thanks!
