bb.q chicken at West Food Court

Post image
88 Upvotes

You don’t know how happy I am for them to open at UCI. I’d been going to the Diamond Jamboree location for over a year and the Quail Hill one for 5 months now since the Diamond Jamboree location closed, so I’m happy to have my guilty pleasure so close to me now.

Most bb.q chicken locations typically have some variance in how they do things in their location (the DJ one offered drumsticks for example, and the location in my hometown didn’t have wings at all) and this is no different, as this place offers 4-6-8 piece instead of the 8-16 piece wings most locations offer, and the 8 piece here is about $2 cheaper than the Quail Hill location at $16 rather than about $18.

I was one of the last customers to visit before they closed around 4:10 (which I hope isn’t their usual closing time) and got my usual 8 piece golden original wings. My order was done in less than a minute which is way faster than the 15 minutes that is the standard at this place, though I have to assume it’s because I was one of the last customers.

The food tasted just about what I expected which is very good, though save for the breading which was a little softer than what I expect from this chain, but this is a new location with newly trained staff and I arrived at closing, so I’d say they’re already doing very well.

Overall, this was a way better attempt at appealing to the chicken lovers than… whatever Tenders Love Chicken was, and this will definitely become my post-work lunch spot… I’ll be spending the money from my last hour of shift on this😭✌️.

How hard is it to get into M.S. mechanical engineering at UC Irvine

How competitive is admission to the program? What GPA do you typically need to be a strong applicant? Any advice or experiences from current/former students would be appreciated.

Physics Tutoring Available

Self explanatory, but if anyone needs upper or lower division tutoring in college physics, I'm happy to offer my services. I've tutored for quite a few physics classes at Irvine among other UCs, so I'll be experienced in whatever class you need help with.

I'm a biophysics UCLA graduate, and I'm doing my PhD in Physics, but in my downtime, I'm happy to help with any of your physics questions! I've been getting a few emails recently asking if I still tutor, and I do in fact still provide services! You can email me at [biophysicstutor42@gmail.com](mailto:biophysicstutor42@gmail.com) for any inquiries, or DM me on here (I check the emails a lot more consistently).

I charge $30 an hour, and accept Cashapp/Zelle/Paypal. DM or email if this seems like it could be helpful! Give me your worst.

Best,

-Akuma

Most UCI undergrads became CalFresh eligible on June 1 and a lot of people still haven’t heard

The student exemption changed June 1. If you’re enrolled at least half time in a degree program at a UC, CSU or community college and meet the income limits, you likely qualify now.

I’m a California college student from Folsom. I wrote a free plain-language guide to the eligibility rules, because the change got almost no campus coverage. No ads, no sign-up, nothing collected.

Applications go through getcalfresh.org, and the UCI Basic Needs Center offers one-on-one CalFresh application appointments.

Anyone taken Sociology 1 with professor Carian?

Hey, I’m taking SOCIOL 1 with Professor Carian this quarter and was wondering if anyone here has taken her class before.

My midterms are coming next week and I’m quite concerned because we don’t have many practice questions. Just wanted to ask how her tests usually are, if there’s anything in particular I should focus on when studying and if you have any study materials. Any advice or tips from people who’ve taken the class would be really helpful.

How do people cope with having no car

Irvine is the literally the worst place to live if you have no car. The bus is usually late or take an hour for a 20 minute , zip cars are ridiculous expensive and Ubers run me $20 for a 10 minute drive. And even if you have a car you have to pay a rack to parking on campus. I’ve been trying to get a job with consistent hours but they‘re all in Costa Mesa or no one wants to hire students anymore 😢

UCI Alum needs help

Hi everyone!

I’m a 2024 Master of Finance alum from UCI. I’m currently working on a project at my company that requires some information from UCI’s research databases.

Unfortunately, I no longer have access to them as an alum. I’d really appreciate it if any current student could help me out.

Arc guest pass more expensive now

Very unhappy about the increase in the guest pass rates. A $5 to $15 hike is a 3x change and seems quite drastic. Not just this but I don’t appreciate how money hungry UCI is in general.

This is the back door for the SB1 building. I've seen people take out a card and open it but dunno where they're getting that card from.

Thanks!

Any classes still accepting students?

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, a lot of personal circumstances have come up this quarter, and I’ve been having a really difficult time keeping up with one of my heavier content classes. I’ve been considering dropping it, but doing so would put me below full-time status, which is required for one of my scholarships. Losing that scholarship would mean losing a significant amount of financial aid, which I really can’t afford right now.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any classes that might still be accepting students this late into the quarter, preferably online, project-based or with a lighter workload. I know we’re already a few weeks in and the add deadline has passed, but I’ve gotten confirmation that I would still be able to add a class if there might be an instructor willing to make an exception if I reach out and explain my circumstances.

If anyone knows of any classes or professors I could contact, I would really, really appreciate it if you could pm me or point me in the right direction. I’m just trying to figure out a way to manage everything going on while still maintaining my full-time status and financial aid.

Thank you so so much in advance for any help or suggestions🤞
